My biggest concern for Apple Watch waterproofing, is will things get better going forward? Every year with the iPhone I've been hoping Apple would waterproof it, but no. There have been waterproof phones for a while. And now the watch has no charge port, no headphone jack, and yet it's still not waterproof?

Honestly, I'm ok with not showering and swimming with my Apple Watch in theory, but eventually I'd like to be able to. However, I'm not getting the warm fuzzy that that will ever happen.

This does less than an Apple Watch and costs more.

I suspect this is one of those unusual cases where European consumers get a better deal! My guess is that this will be slightly cheaper than the iWatch in Europe but more expensive in the US assuming Apples standard exchange rates

How ever you want to call it. I want to be able to use the watch, while running even in a driving rain storm, also be able to shower with it on. I want a sturdy product that doesn't break with the simplest uses.

Why on earth do you need to wear your watch while you shower? That might be one of the strangest requirements for a watch that I've seen.

It is helpful to control music/ radio while in the shower. Also to get alerts or check sports scores

Apple watch! Buy it or naw.

I did some research and duh if you have an iPhone and don't want to switch to a samsung (best smart watch so far), you should buy an apple watch, but BEWARE, and keep IN MIND that apple makes everything better on the second edition. So i recommend if you can wait, get the second gen, but if your an apple fan and got the money (340 estimate) then buy it. I am going to buy it for sure.

For me when I get back from the gym, bike ride, run or extreme trail run I'm sweaty and nasty and my watch is too. I always just take a shower with my Garmin 620 on to clean it too. Otherwise if I take it off I will still have to rinse underwater to clean it anyway.

If they included GPS, it could pair with the iPod nano through Bluetooth for the Nike+ app.

Most sports watches these days have GPS and are water resistant.

So even though those two features are reasons why I won't buy one, Apple could easily fix that on version 2.0 and I would probably buy it then.

While no GPS in gen 1 It WILL be water resistant.

So the discussion above is purely regarding submersion? I think it should at least be washable under the tap. I would only use it as a sports watch, and either way, most watches get pretty gross after a week or two and need basic cleaning.

Does it really need to be washed under a tap....will not a good wipe down be just as effective and remove the need to be dunked under a tap or taken in the shower?

No, the discussion above is based fully on FUD. Until Apple publishes (if they do) an IP or ATM rating we can only speculate. I speculate the aWatch will be IPx6 (or IPx7) rated.

It's the gunk in the band that you need to remove to make it clean. TAG recommend you wash their watches weekly with soap and water under a tap. They advise not to shower with it, as you expose the seals to soap every time and it dries them out. However, once a week under the tap is fine.

It works, you feel the clasp works better and the whole thing feels clean. You would be surprised how much gunk gets in the band and pins.

In that case, since the Apple Watch band is easy to remove, you could just snap off the band and wash just that.

But the undersurface is the part that will be sweaty and nasty. How does wearing it in the shower clean the undersurface? And at some point, wouldn't you also want to clean your wrist?

I'm still totally lost.

I'm waiting for reviews of the FitBit Surge....that might be the gadget I need rather than an iwatch

I can assure you that it is an attractive, capable device. It is clearly built to serve a different slice of the market, however. I don't think there is a straight comparison that can be made.

Up until my I bought my Pebble watch, I would never take off (okay maybe I take them off once every couple of months for some reason) my Casio cheapos. When the Casios finally die in about a year and a few months, I take them off. They are perfectly clean underneath (save maybe some soap scum that gets in a crack). My wrist is also clean, too, just pale from lacking sun exposure. Maybe I wear my watches loosely so water gets underneath?
