I'm not convinced by AR. Its been around for years (think 3DS) and the things I am seeing now are really nothing more than we've had in the past, just better looking and a more complex. I was imagining AR to be built into maps in intelligent ways, so for example you could be walking down a street looking through the camera of your iPhone and seeing information and reviews above shops etc. Standing up and walking around an imaginary object will not only get old fast, its nothing more than a novelty.

I’ve seen prototype apps like the map one you refer to. I think they’re coming. We have to sift through a lot of chaff to get to the good stuff, which is why I started this thread.

Hope so because it has the potential to be really powerful in the right context. The new Ikea app seems good but not yet available here in there UK.

A bunch of AR apps are showing up using an “arkit” App Store search. Found a computer museum AR app. It has my old Altair 8800 plus a few others. Primitive but made me smile. Cost me 99 cents.

I used that search last night and it found lots of apps/games. Just tried it again now, and it hardly found any.

I saw a piece about a measuring utility. Measured distances, angles, etc. Now I can’t find it. Anyone else seen this?

"AR Ruler - Measuring Tape." $0.99, and it seems to truly use ARkit because it lists compatible devices as:

-iPhone SE
-iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, and all newer iPhones
-All iPad Pro Models
-iPad (2017)

These are the only devices that support ARkit, so I think it is legit.

I'll bite the bullet for $0.99 and test it out and let you all know how it works!

PS: Thanks for starting this thread!

Edit: Bought it, and tried it out lightly. Seems to get things pretty accurate, however, it is very basic as far visuals. It is a single thin line, in a color of your choice and you just measure from point a to point b. I did see some visual hiccups occasionally. Not horrible, but not the best, however, for $0.99 it does not really hurt. It is version 1.0 so an update is needed to fix some things.

These apps use like 50% of your battery is 30 minutes of use. What’s the point if you have to charge your phone 5 times a day?

We had many fart apps when the AppStore launched. Consider the first wave of AR apps to be the new fart apps. Give the developers time.

The live view is slightly out of focus when using AR apps. Not sure if it’s by design to shift the focus to the AR content.

I think the camera is set to 720p for better performance. So not out of focus. But it’s just a guess.

On my SE arkit apps are not usefull-all of them drain the battery completely within 30 Minutes and the phone gets hot. Maybe its because of the general high battery consumption of ios11, but at the moment AR is dissapointing.

could you list out these 15 best apps in your post instead of just trying to direct traffic to your site? Hey thanks!
Hey thanks for feedback,

best ARkit apps will always changes,if I put a names of 15 ARkit apps here, it will be not the best apps after some time. I hope you understand, though I will add Apps name here.
