Not defending BB, but a lot of front line employee do not know what is going on with things like this. They should be saying that they don't know and they will find out. Hopefully, they ask a manager - who will know - and get that info out to customers and other employees.

The person didn't know for sure so she got a supervisor who told me they actually had a meeting and that was one of the topics

Showed up at 5:01, ended up being the last person in line to get one! They only had the 16 GB one though. Debating whether to return it to get a 32 next week.

The guy behind me in line (who didn't get one) turned out to be the CFO of my company's parent company...maybe I should've let him have it

Loving this iPad though!!!

This summer when my Dell computer broke, I went to Best Buy for them to look at it. The guy at the geek squad told me that laptops are not meant for your lap. He said he has never used a mac before, but that they are overpriced and they suck. He also said that it would probably cost $500 for them to look my computer and fix it.... My reason for getting a Mac and never buying anything at Best Buy again....

BB's website only shows the WiFi models, so you can't even look to see what store has them!

they have opened up their site to include 3G this morning, however, they are still not showing the 32GB 3G model... the one I am looking for. I wonder if it missed the website update, or if they are intending to not stock the 32GB 3G model?

Avoid Best Buy

Let's put it this way, I live within about 15 minutes of TWO Best Buy stores and I drove 40 minutes to get my iPad at an Apple store.

I'll do just about anything to avoid going into a Best Buy. Their prices are high, their staff is ignorant and pushy, their policies disgraceful, and the shopping experience is miserable.

When was the last time you were aggressively up-sold, had your bags searched, or dealt with a blatantly ignorant employee at an Apple store? Best Buy is the epitome of "big box" incompetence, greed and short-term thinking.

The only stores worse than Best Buy **were** CompUSA and Circuit City, and we know how they ended up. One can only hope Best Buy suffers the same fate as more and more customers realize how truly awful Best Buy really is.

I had none of those issues when I went to get my 3G on friday.

Actually even on a return years ago I had no problems. Maybe it depends on who manages the store.

They didn't search your bags or check your receipt as you walked out? I find that very hard to believe. I've been to Best Buy stores all over the country and they ALWAYS search my bags and check my receipt as I walked out. After all, why would I have been in their store unless I was trying to steal from them?

It's been my experience that the crappiness of Best Buy is universal, well implemented, and deeply embedded in their corporate culture.

No trouble with Best Buy here. I stopped by earlier in the day and they told me they had ten. First come first serve...no tickets.

I arrived at 4PM. There were 5 people in the line. They even had ten chairs set out for us to sit down while we waited.

All the employees were very nice. Guess the store has a good manager.

I got there by 4 and was out by 5:30 but they only had the 64GB 3G. Im returning it because I really only want the 16 or 32 and cant justify the extra money on this.

Best Buy is a great place to buy stuff... as long as you never need to actually talk to anyone.

Late to the thread, but: this.

Not even going to go into my best buy nightmares, regarding nothing more complicated then trying to get a rep to help me find where an item was a shelved.

Yup it does.

Former BB Customer Service employee here and proud of it. The 2 stores i worked in rocked - because our management team was awesome!

God forbid that a retailer would try to prevent customers from shoplifting. It never happens right??? Nobody ever steals stuff from stores...right? Or is your posture that because you don't steal from stores BB should assume that none of their customers shoplift?

I have to be honest, my best buy in Phoenix periodically checks my bag. And quite frankly, unless you are a serial shoplifter what's the big deal? Retailers lose millions of dollars via shoplifting so it makes sense to proactively prevent this issue. And when you are the number one retailer in the country, chances are you are going to suffer the most from shoplifting. Why?? Because you have more traffic in your stores.

BB gets on my nerves as much as the next person. Their customer service is suspect, the cashiers are slow, and the salespeople aren't very knowledgeable about their products. IMHO those are all valid complaints. But I have no problem with BB trying to minimize shoplifting. At the end of the day, all shoplifting does is raise the prices for the average consumer.

Best buy here has never asked to search my bags.

So they told you they didn't have any and you are mad because you hung around and they didn't have any?
I realize you were misinformed.
Why not go somewhere else?

My best buy experience on Friday was the balls.

Had the afternoon free got to bb around 3pm asked the apple salesman about the launch he said first come first serve. There was no one waiting.

Went by the apple store, saw 20+ people waiting, dicked around a bit and went back to bb a bit after 4pm. Still was no line, parked myself at a demo mbp and killed time, after about 10 minutes the apple rep said he'd make sure I got a ticket, few minutes later he came by with one.

I spent the majority of the remaining time in a nice leather recliner watching an overpriced $7000 tv I'd never be stupid enough to buy.

Silver rewards plan (45 day no restocking), no line, leather recliner, and 160 ish in credits = win.

Never been searched or hassled leaving ever either. But I leave bags in the car, am white and wear clothes that fit. Profiling happens, it's a reality of life. Don't want to be profiled, then don't fit the profile.

Um...what? As a silver member, you get 1.25 points for every dollar you spend. Even if you purchased the 64 3G, you're looking at 1,036 points, which only equates to $20ish. It's nowhere near $160.

No I had $160 ish in credits to redeem, which would have been worth dick at an apple store.

I had an aweful best buy experience that was followed up with good customer service. WHen I arrived at the best buy at 3:30pm, I specifically asked if they had the 16gb IPAD 3g instock and they said they had them instock and they had gotten 15 total, 5 of each model. I got in line and was definitely going to get the model I wanted. After about 45 minutes later the manager came by the line and said he wanted to let everyone know they just received them and they got 10 64gb , and 5 32gb 3g version. I wanted the 16gb one, so I told him the situation that I was specifically told they had the 16gb 3g version on hand when I arrived at the store. Therefore he gave me his business card and wrote that I could exchange the 32gb 3g IPAD I bought for a 16gb 3g version at any time even after the 14 day policy. He said if he was here when they got them in stock, he would call me and hold one. So we will see what happens.
