the guy in blue was given a straight red, but people think it was just an overreaction because the break was so bad. if it hadn't broken like that, it probably would have been just a yellow because it was a late tackle, studs up.

He didn't really break off his ankle like it appears in the pic, did he? To me, it just looks like one of those shots in just the right place so it merely looks like his ankle got ripped off, but he's standing on the side of the inside of his shoe. Kinda like those pics of gymnasts where their heads are so far back that it looks like their heads fell off or something.

He did indeed. It was Martin Taylor for Birmingham (blue) against Eduardo for Arsenal in the Prem.

They showed it on Match of the Day that night and I was nearly sick

Was a very nasty break, but the pictures do make the tackle look as if Taylor tried to break his leg, when in truth it was a nasty accident.
