Base mini

- Famous Maker (refurbished HP) Full HD, via HDMI, everything works fine
- 2006 Toshiba Standard HD, thunderbolt port --> using a mini-display port adapter --> HDMI to the TV, everything works, audio and all

not sure what all these issues are that ppl are having

So, a big glossy monitor is best because of a port which in reality the OP's mom probably wont use (or be able to use until some decent priced consumer TB drives arrive).

To the OP, most DVI monitors will be fine (there is a compatibility thread on here about tested monitors with the MacMini).

Sarcasm doesn't translate well over the internet I suppose. Personally I thought it was obvious seeing as I gave no real reason to buy the thing other than "it's a display" and "made by Apple"

does flickering occur if you have only the 2407 connected?

i have not seen any flickering on my 2407. i also have a cheap vizio hdtv connected to the hdmi port. the only "issue" i see (which isn't really even an issue) is if the hdtv is off and i turn it on, the 2407 will show a blank blue screen while the hdmi negotiates the hdcp handshake with the hdtv. after a couple seconds, everything is back to normal. the 2010 mini does this also, and it's not a big deal.

Yup, even with just the 2407 connected it does the flickering. I've used the same monitor for nearly 4 years with a few other computers and didn't have an issue, so it is quite weird. Going to grab a mDP-dvi cable to try it with.

Nice monitor choice ;)

Though I'm using the 2407 with hdmi-dvi on the Mini with AMD video and the flickering drives me crazy. Maybe I should abandon the 2310 and go mDP-dvi with the 2407.

Perhaps its because you have the dedicated video card and not the Integrated Intel. Read now two members (indg is one) stating that the integrated Intel video does not flicker. Just a thought

Please get back to us when you get the other cable to try out.. Good luck

Found this as well ...

" I had a 2.5 with the AMD graphics + my 24" ACD and experienced the above mentioned flickering, tearing, twitching and black screens to the point it was unusable. Worked with Apple on it but to no avail. Had to return it and picked up a 2.3 with the Intel graphics (really don't need the higher end graphics) and it works fine with the 24" ACD.
