Best non-iPhone smartphone?

Ive had an iPhone 3G for a while now and am looking to upgrade. My biggest complaint is that I wish it was faster overall.

So im looking into the iPhone 3G S/next iPhone release, or is there something better out there? I feel like there must be?

I mainly need a really good browser experience and a fast interface. And would really love a browser that can do flash. The iPhone feels like a toy to me latley, instead of an awesome internet browsing smartphone.

Any suggestions?

Why not upgrade to the 3gs rather than going elsewhere? You have the older model and your issue is for something faster so 3gs!
 
The Sony Ericsson X10 has a 1gig processor, should be pretty fast. I'm not saying its better than the iPhone but if speed is what you want it makes sense to check it out
 
Oh, I also forgot to mention that I have AT&T.

What do you guys think about the HTC Pure and HTC Titl2?

Im kind of sick of the iPhone interface and lack of flash web browsing.

Also, dont know if I want to wait for the X10.

Are you serious? Why would you switch to a Windows Mobile phone from an iPhone? You said browsing is important, right? That's like taking 10 steps backward.

The 3G S is pretty much the best solution. It's noticeably faster than the 3G in just about everything it does, while maintaining the great browsing and media capabilities.

Your best alternatives are the upcoming Motorola Droid (Verizon), which will be the fastest Android handset yet, or the Palm Pre (Sprint), but the latter is even more plasticky and toy'ish than the iPhone, so I doubt that's what you want.

Yea, your kind of right. But isnt the Opera browser on the HTC Titl2 pretty solid and fast? I know it does flash which the iPhone 3GS doesnt.

And right now ATT doesnt have an android phone. Id have to wait for the X10.
 
I really wish that the Blackberry 8900 had 3G cuz id get that and throw Opera on it and love it.
 
If I would have to give up my iPhone then the only other phone I would choose is the Motorola Droid.

There are roughly a dozen extremely thorough reviews available regarding every aspect of the phone. Also, 30 day return policy on the phone + plan so it's worth a try.

Their next best option is probably the Blackberry Onyx (next gen Bold). But otherwise I agree. And I don't see BB fitting the bill if web browsing's your priority.

Not even if I put Opera on it? I was hoping this would be the best option.

wait until the end of the month. The Bold 9700 is coming out on AT&T. It is effectly a 8900 with 3G and a track pad. (huge upgrade to the 8900)
 
If browsing experience is what you're after, you're not going to do better than the 3GS. BB is a terrible choice if browsing is your main concern.
 
iPhone - best phone for web browsing, apps
BB - best for all types of messaging

All other phones can't beat those 2 in those categories, so I wouldn't even bother looking at them.
 
In countless reviews the iPhone beats down all competitors in web-browsing. If the lack of flash is an issue, maybe you'd settle for a slightly less smooth browsing experience. As far as devices that would work on AT&T... I'd say N900. BB (even with opera) is going to feel like being neutered with a wooden spoon.

If you're willing to switch carriers... Then Android is going to be your savior. I'm looking to get the Sprint Hero soon and hoping it gets Rooted soon as well. Verizon, if their plan was cheaper, has the Droid coming, which looks very promising. The lack of multi-touch in all the default apps is a concern, but the device does support it. It is present in 3rd party apps and hopefully, with enough pressure, Google/VZW enables it soon.

Also, the HTC Dragon is on the horizon. Dragon is the HTC name, not sure what it'll be called or what carrier it's going to be on. It's got the Snapdragon 1ghz processor and runs Android just like the Droid does. Maybe even wait for this.
 
some of you people with iPhones confuse me .. why are you downgrading to lesser phones? so many people with iPhones say "oh I think I want a blackberry for BBM" wtf? lol like how is that a major factor for you

Nobody suggested BB until the OP mentioned it. Also, nobody even mentioned BBM.

The mention of messaging being better on BB is something that I would even agree with... Rather than having a separate app for Facebook, different folder for each email address, separate app for SMS/MMS, etc... You have one inbox. I think that's far simpler for messaging.

Also... What makes the N900, Droid, Hero, Dragon or other phone "lesser"? Or are you too close minded to think that there could be a phone that's a better fit for someone than the iPhone? The iPhone may be the simplest smartphone out there, but that doesn't make it the smartest.
