Also... What makes the N900, Droid, Hero, Dragon or other phone "lesser"? Or are you too close minded to think that there could be a phone that's a better fit for someone than the iPhone? The iPhone may be the simplest smartphone out there, but that doesn't make it the smartest.

QFT.

If some people would just turn off their 'fanboyism' for one second, they'd realize the smartphone competition has stepped up greatly. Competition is good for the end consumer. Many of you fanboys are so locked into Apple and the Iphone it makes me nauseated.

LOL.

Study: iPhone leads in satisfaction for consumer, business smartphone users
http://obamapacman.com/2009/10/stud...ction-for-consumer-business-smartphone-users/

Explain the this 'study' to me. how many people were used, age ranges, technology experience, etc.

Apple has a huge user base. It's usually the first 'smart' phone that non-smartphone users buy (due to the fact it's requires no technological experience to use, ease of use, pretty on the eyes, etc.) Some more tech savvy smart phone users like less 'dumbed down' phones. The selling point for the Iphone is that it's easy, and it just works. It's perfect for the every day non tech savvy person.

Many other competing smart phones just don't have the user base that the Iphone has yet, so they don't get put into consideration. These studies are useless. They only take the U.S. smartphone users in consideration.

So?

That doesn't mean it's going to be what everyone wants. Also, ratings are not surprising when you have people here that blindly hail all things iPhone. If someone wants multitasking on their phone, they'll be slightly less happy with the iPhone. If they want it to have a faster processor or have less restrictive app processes, they'll be less happy with the iPhone. If they wait their phone's camera to have a flash and be 5mega pixel, they'll be less happy with the iPhone.

It's down to personal preference. Nobody has said "Hands down ______ is the best phone ever!" except people talking about the iPhone. You know why? Because we understand a big part of it is personal preference. Not just what Jobsie wants us to have. ;)

Launching early 2010.

IMHO, the best non-iPhone smartphone is the Blackberry Bold. I have one and absolutely love it. The new version, the Bold 9700 takes it even farther by bringing more RAM and a better camera. Personally, I prefer the older Bold 9000 for it's form factor.

I think Android is definitely starting to come into it's own, but for my needs, the iPhone or Bold are the only 2 phones I could see myself using.

And as much as I love the things Droid "Does" that the iPhone doesn't, I really think it's a pretty ugly phone.

Here's a hands-on by Engadget that I'm about to look at. I haven't read much about this though. http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/02/sony-ericsson-xperia-x10-announced-we-go-hands-on/

I would go with the HTC HD2. That's what I'll be switching too when it comes out.

Isn't that WinMo? Looks nice but I think Android is going to be a better switch from iPhone. Unless you are stuck to AT&T. (I hope I'm thinking of the right phone, if the HD2 is either Android or not on AT&T then I may not be. :D)

Here's a link to it BTW. http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/04/htcs-hd2-has-landed-at-engadget/ And it's WinMo 6.5 running an HTC Skinned interface. Just like the Hero is running and HTC interface over Android.

The next generation phone - pushing the limit!

Sony Ericsson Xperia x10

The engadget review is not at all encouraging that this will be even a good competitor for what's currently available let alone the phone that launches the "next generation" of smartphones. (For example: "Calling the present interface "laggy" would be paying it an unearned compliment. We got the gist of what SE was trying to do here, but there's absolutely no way to evaluate whether the company has succeeded when usability was this low.") The review does caution that the phone is clearly pre-production, and a lot could change. So I'm not writing its obituary yet, but I'm certainly not crowning it either.

It seems more like it's a "proof of concept." If Sony brings something pretty close to this (but with smoother running and better battery life) this could be awesome.

Does Sony Ericsson EVER deliver on their hyped up phones? No, at least not in the U.S. The X10 will probably be delayed until halfway through 2010 where it will be shrouded by the next iPhone release. And even then you'd be lucky to see the X10 on any major carrier... SE is known for releasing phones that no one subsidizes in the states, so you'd probably be looking at $700+ to pick one up (and that's a generous lowball).

yea, the X10 looks a bit far reaching. It will either take forever before it's even released, or it wolnt be very smooth.

The HTC HD looks pretty nice. And so does the N900. But they seem atleast a half a year away from any US carrier.

Maybe ill just get the new bold, and put Opera on it. Or Ill go with the Tilt2.

N900 will be available in the US "End of Nov 2009" Nokia's Pre-Order link.

It's by J.D. Powers, a non-biased third party well known in the billion dollar car industry.

Invest money to improve usability doesn't equal dumbed down.

I'll take one no matter if it's WinMo or Android :)

Do you have some obsession with Opera? You've mentioned it every one of your posts. Do you seriously think its going to be better than Safari?

Ever used the latest Opera? He's right. It's pretty good now and getting better all the time.

All the mobile browsers are getting better. I figure within a year and a half there'll be a couple of full Safari equals... plus they'll have full Flash support and nifty features like visual bookmarks that Safari could use.

The X10 is conceptually impressive and visually stunning too.

However, if it's not running smoothly on a Snapdragon 1GHz (a Cortex A9 (!!!) equivalent), then maybe it's just a bit ahead of its time.

Hopefully Sony Ericsson can port their new interface to Android 2.0 before long too, as the killer feature of 2.0 is Google's amazing new Navigation app.

Well, it does Flash, and ive heard that the newest version is pretty good and fast. So yes I am.

It's still on a bb. No touchscreen, let alone multitouch. I don't care what browser you're using - if you have to navigate around pages with a trackball/pad, it's not going to be like safari on the iPhone.

but it sounds like you're going to have to see for yourself to be convinced, so have fun.
