Whats the best way to sell my ipad 2 without selling on ebay or craigslist? I have 64 gb Wifi. Gazelle's quote was for around $300. Amazon trade in is for a $500 gift card but i'm not sure if they sell the ipad 3 on launch day. Do you guys have any suggestions? thanks!

You could also sell via Amazon's marketplace, but whatever's preventing you from using ebay or craigslist would likely apply there as well.

Ebay Instant Sale is an alternative to Gazelle but I expect priced similarly. Like any wholesaler (which these two are), they're pricing what they give you so they can turn around and resell the device and make a profit. You're paying a lot of money for that security/convenience.

I've always primarily tried to sell on ebay. I flirted with selling my Ipad 2 before giving it to the wife. I listed it on Craigslist and got mostly folks trying to talk me down in price or trade me stuff. Friday morning a guy offered me a shotgun :)....so I was thinking sure I go meet him to trade and he turns it on me lol

The safest way is Amazon marketplace or eBay. Keep in mind, eBay will charge 9% of the sale price and PayPal cleans up with 2%. Once it sells, only ship to a verified PayPal address.

Thanks for the responses! I just listed it on Amazon Marketplace.. Hopefully someone bites though im not confident bc I don't have a seller rating bc its my first time.

One thing to remember is that by selling on Amazon Marketplace, you are required to accept returns if the buyer for some reason decides to do so (i.e. hears about the new iPad 3 and decides to wait for it). Then you are left waiting for the iPad to be sent back to you before you can then resell all the while the value is going down due to the hype of the new iPad being released. Most of the consumer populous doesn't read macrumors or follow the rumors so they have no idea a new version is on the horizon.

I do believe now is the time to sell iPads because once the iPad 3 is officially announced the values will drop like a stone (especially if Apple lowers the price of a brand new iPad 2 to something like $300-400 because who is going to pay that for a used one?).

BTW - I sold my 64gb iPad 1 for $350 on Craigslist last week - normally I do sell on ebay or Amazon, but between the fees and the above scenario I decided to do craigslist even though I do dislike it much more. Cash in hand and no returns :)

Put it on your Facebook wall that you're selling it. Chances are you'll have at least one friend out there who will want it. I sold my original iPad and just last night my iPad 2 that way.

oh man that return policy seems killer. If you don't mind, where did you meet the buyer from craigslist?

Um, it has been on the front page of Yahoo for a while now.

*AND* make sure you ship with tracking and via a method requiring signature
for delivery since it's likely the item will be over $250 and thus requires signature confirmation for seller protection.

The caveat is good for Amazon Marketplace. I believe the buyer has 14 days from receipt to file a claim for damaged/defective/materially-different claims, which makes it risky if they receive it next week and then see a new version announced.

Ugh I'm wondering if I should If I should just try craigslist.

I sold my wife's ipad 2 2 weeks ago on Craigs List fo $425 16g wifi. I also sold her ipad 1 a year earlier on Craigs list. I always meet at a bank in the lobby. I got 4 back up purchases if the first one fell through. Sold it the next day. Nothing like getting cash in hand vs ebay. Make sure it is cash no check. Prices will drop when the Ipad 3 is out.

What's a good price to list a 64gb black wifi ipad 2. Excellent condition?

Just listed my white 64GB WiFi iPad 2 on Craigslist for $575. $525 is the lowest I'll go. $500 toward iPad 3... and $25 for a decent bottle of bourbon. ;)

I just sold my iPad 2 wifi/3g 16gb with smart cover for $550. I think Craigslist is the easiest way and it does get you a decent amount but you can get more on ebay its a bit more of a hassle though.

Btw i just erased it using the erase all content and settings, i should be good right i didn't have the time to do a full restore.

eBay will get the most money but they also charge more. In the end eBay has done very well for me in over 60o sales. If you have no feedback, do Craigs list. you will just have to filter through a LOT of scammers and lowballers. There are some good customers out there.

sold my 32gb ATT model for $635 on CL over a week ago. I was prepared to haggle some but the buyer didn't. I did have the box, sealed charger and sync cable, and threw in 2 cheap cases.

I do feel that CL can be dangerous, people go a little crazy over Apple stuff, be careful, take a friend, or at least let someone know contact or email info on the person you are meeting, never at night, always in a busy public place. be cautious.

I would go with Craigslist. No fees and less chance of getting scammed. Meet in a Starbucks or some other public place. Only accept cash. Bring a friend.

The additional piece I'd add is avoid a spot where it's easy for a robber to snatch & grab, running off into a crowd or into a waiting car. i.e. avoid mall food courts or parking lots.

My preference is daylight, inside a Starbucks or similar, and I'll get there enough in advance to get a seat where I'm away from and have a good view of the door. This also prevents the buyer from seeing what I drove up in and potentially having an accomplice laying in wait.

Some people advise meeting in a bank lobby or police station lobby.

Having a friend along is a good idea, and a counterfeit pen is cheap insurance against funny money.

Thanks man all good advice!

Do you think I should take $500 for my ipad 2 (Wifi, 64gb, excellent condition)?

local sales are typically the way to go IMO.

a. People that buy locally tend to be a bit "dumber" and will pay slightly more than people on the internet because they are not "in the know" as much as people who frequent message boards and the like.

b. No fees

c. Don't have to worry as much about scams.

d. No shipping

e. Less chance of getting scammed since the deal is face to face, and you are the seller, you're not worrying about someone trying to pay with Western Union, or disputing you on PayPal, etc.

Obviously use common sense when meeting people on Craigslist.
-Meet in a public spot
-Don't meet during "dark hours"
-Only accept cash
-Bring a friend and/or let someone know what you are doing and where you're going to be

You should take the most you think you're going to get. The value isn't going to go up, and may well go down very quickly once a media event is scheduled if the major media outlets pick up on it and the general public gains more knowledge of an impending new model. i.e. try to sell it soon rather than holding out for an extra $50.

Search ebay for completed sales as a pricing guide. Remember also that you don't pay ~12% in ebay fees, so you can afford to underprice on CL for a quick sale to get it done with.
