Been staying away from the iOS 11 betas but looking to give them a try. Is the beta 3 usable as a daily driver and also in terms of app compatibility.

Its more about what you use and if you have to have a 100% functional device. I'd say its about 60% daily driver on my 7+ Its slower by far and some apps crash. I have other devices I can use when I hit these walls. Personally I'd say go for it but you may just found out you stepped in it.....

I've been using beta 2 on both 6S and iPP 9.7. No issues on either. Both are now on beta 3. Running better than ever!

But clearly, some folks are finding issues. You really won't know until you install it how it will work on your device.

Beta 3 on 9.7 iPad Pro is running great for me, but beta 3 on my iPhone 7 + experience has been a bit rougher than DB2. Running super hot, and then my battery crapped way out yesterday...

I've found since beta 2 it was pretty reasonable for me as a daily driver, except i had to install the High Serra beta on my Mac in order to edit photos due to the fact that I was using the new HEIF format.

I think beta 3 might be a bit rougher on battery life than beta 2 but that's just my impression, I haven't attempted to measure battery life.

B3 has been the most unstable iOS beta I’ve had for the last few years - this is for MY experience on a 7+ - not necessarily everyone else’s experience.

I’m sure others are having good luck with it, but for me it’s been freezing up, restarting, apps crashing, screen rotate problems, so I’m probably not going to use this beta for a daily....

There are specific apps that simply do not work yet because they haven't been updated by the original developer. A bunch of "radio" streaming applications will not connect correctly, giving an error saying the stations are not streaming. This is tied to two errors, OS coding and Application coding. Depending on how well the application is coded, it's possible the OS changes will end up working with an old application that is not updated. However, most will require updates due to the new file system. Considering IOS 10 received this new system, most applications should be updated by the end of the year.

Youtube is pretty bad right now, video streaming issues buffering as well as loss of sound during crash. You will have to restart the device to get sound back in any application after this.

Some online games also do not work because they check what version of OS is being used and will kick you or not load but crash this would be assuming "jailbreak" protection or again coding errors when switching to an unknown OS. I can give an example of that one "micro machines" will not load past the main splash screen. Sports games such as RBI baseball 2017 can be played, however again the splash screen cannot be bypassed early, you must watch the logo pop up every time you load the game. Not sure what specific applications you are looking to use but I would be careful switching over unless you are into testing and submitting bug reports.

Device issues: iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone SE for me both run ok with issues in overall graphics and transparency residuals left on the screen doing different tasks, this is even worse on Ipad 12.9. Completely normal in betas but for casual users they'll find issues when editing photos, as crashes do occur when saving. The file will be saved, just crashes the interface.

As others have mentioned "heat" is definitely an issue during betas. This is because the code is not optimized at this point. It's not exactly super hot, but it is something to be aware of if you use your device for a long period of time.. such as watching a movie or youtube videos taking 10 minutes or longer. Some will say this can damage the battery.. I'm sure it plays some what into it as far as wearing out quicker during the day.. however I can't see this being an overarching destructive issue causing major battery problems for the life of the device you use. I say this because updates do come out to fix issues like this so a few weeks here and there to me doesn't seem like a massive destructive issue. (obviously my own opinion on all this stuff so take it for what it is, I'm not a battery manufacturer or strict tester on that aspect by any means.)

3rd party keyboards: A lot of jumpy issues that cause freezes to occur. I've seen this quite a bit with Google's gboard application. So I'd say if you are using a 3rd party keyboard as your go to, skip the current betas until there's some coding optimization in the OS. If Google updates their keyboard application anytime soon, it's possible fixes will be done to help these issues.

I could write a lot more as far as errors go and the bug reports I've sent but I think this is good enough for now. I still cannot recommend using IOS 11 betas as a daily driver to anyone other then developers at this time. The current public beta has the same issues. Basically guys, just be careful of what you do. I know of a really nasty bug that can send the device into a bootloop when pairing IOS 11 beta device up to High Sierra iTunes update. It's pretty easy to have this happen.

Does anyone have problems with not being to charge a device with PB3? With PB2 on my iPad Air, I kept getting an error that my charging cable was not compatible and my iPad wouldn't charge.

I've seen this issue with my iPhone SE during testing. When I use the Apple cable its fine but if I switch over to any other cable that is certified I get an error message saying it can't do more than one thing at a time. Like listen to music and charge. So the music portion will work but it won't charge or the music won't work but it will charge. I haven't been able to see this issue when using the official cables however. Sorry.

Don’t be sorry. That’s what I needed to hear. The cable was fine with 10.3.3 but not with PB2. I’m trying PB3 but will Buy an official Apple cable if I have to.

Yes same here with 10.3.3, never saw this issue when beta testing. I will say I've seen the error less now in beta 3 IOS 11 then beta 2. Only time I got annoyed was being in my car, hooking up to a secondary company cable that is certified and having that error come up several times before it finally worked and I could listen to music/charge at once. No doubt this will be fixed by the end of this beta run. I'm sure others besides myself have sent in bug reports for it.

This is true. I'm a victim and lucky  replaced the iPad 12.9. I was just about to install beta 3 and read this. I need to wait. Thanks for the reminder Tkukoc!

Thanks again for your help. I’m not getting the bug thankfully on PB3.

The second PB is way better than the first, but I think it’s still a little too buggy for my 6+. I have it on my mini 4 so I can try it out. I had to restore after the first PB, because it was a disaster.

Beta 3 (or PB 2in my case) has been a dream...fixed all the issues I had with PB2 (most noticeably the ability to swipe away apps...I hate open apps....)

Me too...I never keep apps “open”. Not being able to close them easily in the first PB was so frustrating.

Still quite buggy. I'm using it as a daily driver on both my iPhone 7 Plus and my iPad Air 2, but mainly on the iPhone because I wanted to test out HEVC and HEIF, and on the iPad because I don't use it that much these days.

However, I wouldn't recommend it as a daily driver. I didn't dare install it on my wife's iPhone 6s. The numerous bugs and instabilities I've noticed would drive her nuts, and then she would kill me. I don't wanna die.

Usually, I'm not happy until about the last couple of beta versions, but then again even the iOS 8.0 release version was a buggy mess.

Sounds like the iOS 11 betas are a lot buggier than the iOS 10 betas were.

10 was very solid. With 11, I'm going to wait for at least one more beta before taking the plunge.

I’ve been using the beta since it was available and beta 3 actually much more stable than previous betas
On initial assessment I think DB3 (PB2) is better than DB2 (PB1), but it's still not good enough IMO to recommend as a daily driver.

Plus 3rd party apps are a big problem.

Just installed PB2 after sitting out on PB1 to let the dust settle while initial bugs get squashed and allow most apps to get acclimated.

Installation went smoothly without a hitch. Knowing it could get pretty warm, I took off my Smart Battery case and put a frozen gel pack underneath the phone to help keep things cool and running optimally during/post installation. That’s probably overkill and not required but I suppose it doesn’t hurt to put it to use as I always had one handy in the freezer.

Few hours later, no crashes yet with a few frames lost while swiping or unlocking and it’s still a bit warm in the hand without the gel pack. I think I’ll give the Smart Battery case a break tonight.

Maybe because they change something under the hood in ios 11

PB1 was quite bad on my iPhone 7 so decided to wait before upgrading my iPad Pro 10”... PB2 seems much better though and also went ahead with it on iPad too.
