need to chime in here......when you change the launcher from Tw to ...well anything. It does not eliminate TW. But then it does not USE it either. So resources used by TW are freed up......
TW is just not as optimized as Sense is......but they both do the job rather nicely. Samsung should have put 3GB of ram in the S5......ram is really inexpensive. IMHO....Going forward I think 2 or 3 Gb of ram should be the standard for flagship phones.
I don't think this is exactly true jamezr. I've never seen TW referred to as only a launcher but rather the skin that Samsung layers on top of Android. It isn't limited to just the home screen launcher but also includes all of the added functionality (all of the S-features, air gestures, etc), or what many of us consider Samsung's 'bloatware'. The proof is that all of those functions remain when one uses an alternate launcher, and thus they continue to use resources.
I don't like the design elements of TW and using Nova will at least hide some if it. Unfortunately, you still see it everywhere else--the settings menu, the quick settings, and the notification panel. And this is just one element of TW.
