Not yet. I believe Big Sur needs a fix before it will seamlessly connect.
Well that sucks. Hopefully this comes soon.
Not to derail the topic, but I feel like this “works on iOS, but not on MacOS” is a recurring thing lately. I’m hoping the M series Macs end this trend (not that I have one yet, but eventually).

Can someone who installed macOS Big Sur 11.3 beta try to see if this is fixed?

One workaround that only worked with me is to:
- play something on your phone
- pause it
- then go to your mac
- remove one airpod from your ear and put it back
- play something on your mac and it should automatically switch fine

I believe this will work with macOS Big Sur 11.3 or an AirPods firmware update in March because Apple updated the Feedback Assistant with Auto Switching category. Previously it was automatically displaying "Automatic Switching for AirPods is not included in this beta", now there is no warning and a specific category included.

Damn! The 11.3 macOS update does not fix this :mad: They can't get it to work on the mac!

From Apple:

AirPods automatic device switching

AirPods seamlessly switch between your active devices paired to the same iCloud account — making it even easier to use them with your Apple devices.

FIX THIS ISSUE!!!!!!!!!!!

Could we try to make similar feedback reports? I'm just trying ti increase the chance of them being noticed.

Same issue here for me. Can auto switch from Mac to iPhone but not iPhone to Mac. Is 11.5 fixing this??

I bough a new AirPods Max and the same, auto switch simply sucks. For example I'm listening music in my MBP (11.4) and when I answer a call from iPhone (14.6) it changes perfectly but it doesn't change back to MBP if I end call and I start listening music again in MBP.

I read somewhere that auto switch works flawlessly between iOS and iPadOS but not on macOS. I'm still on Intel so I can't comment if this feature work better with Apple Silicon based computers...

So bad.

For the record what you describe is the same on my ARM MacBook Pro! Simply a poor implemented feature...

I've tried Intel 2016 & 2018 MacBook pros and a ARM 2020 MacBook Pro, with both applicable Powerbeat pros and AirPods Pro, it doesn't work. You have to hit the audio source in the menu bar every time on the MacBook Pro and select the headphones to switch back. "Switches from" but doesn't "switch back" automatically. Completely pointless to not allow this.
