Just to give even more detail :)

The trackpad double tap, two finger click and right side of the track pad click options will all work in the game in both the game and the menus (depending what laptop you have and which of these features you enable).

However in the menus you will need to double tap to navigate through the menus instead of the single click you need to use with the mouse. This is slightly strange and I will look at updating the FAQ guide to cover this new point.

Thanks to Yacomo and everyone else who contacted me with information on this one.

For the curious this is how trackpad tapping works (video) in the game and these are the settings (image) you need to have turned on to use it.

However I seriously recommend a gamepad or two button mouse. :)

I have an urge to download the demo. Can my humble MacBook run it? (specs in my sig)

And seems I forgot to add the GPU in my sig. :p

It's a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M...

isn't the demo free? so why not just d/l it and find out?

but in answer to your question, i would suggest probably, especially if you crank down the resolution.

Especially since the 10.6.2 update bioshock runs great on my macbook al with 2.4 ghz, 4 gb ram and 9400m so you shouldn´t have a problem!

Should be fine on Medium settings – the game will automatically choose the best settings for your machine. If in doubt, try the demo :)

I for one would just like to say thanks to the guys a Feral for taking the time to answer the questions here on these forums. You guys really know what customer service is about.

Thanks!

The Aluminium MacBook is now a collector's item? Cool!
No it's just some nutters say it is because, well, there's no reason. I've got one of these machines too but it's just a Macbook.

It should do. I bought Bioshock off Steam for £3 in Jan, runs pretty well on the Macbook. Funnily enough not as well as UT3 or proper Unreal 3 engine games. I guess that's what optimisations all about!

UT3 obviously uses the Unreal Engine 3, whereas Bioshock uses a heavily modified Unreal Engine 2.5

Well, thanks for the help guys. I'm downloading the demo ATM (It was speeding up to 100kb/s on uTorrent mac until the WiMAX transmitter got destroyed by lightning :( but it's up now albeit half its speed )

EDIT:

Finished downloading and installed the game. Runs fine (with occasional drops of FPS) with High settings and a resolution of 1024x768.

What about cheats for this great game? I purchased it but I wanted to try out some cheats since FPS I'm not all that great at FPS-games, even though I still enjoy them...

There are cheats for the Windows version. Don't know about the Mac port.

I know, but they can't be applied to the mac version since you can't edit the DefUser.ini-file...

It's been a while since I've thought about .ini files on a Mac port. Do those files exist just as they do on their Windows counterparts? If they do, they are just text files that can be edited (I think).

They can be opened with the text editor, but not saved, copied, overwritten, etc due to the DMG-file (bioshock data?) having some sort of super-lockdown that I can't get around...

BIOSHOCK IS ON MAC?!?!?

*mind explodes*

There is this guy at my school who always harasses me because I love Apple. He knows I love BioShock (on Xbox 360) so he actually went out and bought the game on PC and plays it on his laptop whenever I am around. He actually says, "Can your MacBook play this?"

Oh my God. I have to get this. :p :p

The ini files the game actually uses are stored in the folder

~/Library/Preferences/Feral Interactive/Bioshock/MacInit

The ones on the dmg are simply the initial template versions.

Check out Bioshock.ini, Startup.ini & User.ini in that folder.

There is no super lockdown on the dmg, it is just read only :)

Thanks guys! Never would've thought of that. I tried adding the PC cheats to alot of places in the User.ini-file. Would anyone else care to try this and confirm that it doesn't work? Didn't for me at least.

PM me and I will give you my email so you can send me your cheats (and your preferences) so I can have a look. IF they don't work I will see if can make em work in the next patch.
