Bixby is so much more than other DAs. People don't even bother trying it before spewing their hate, and I totally don't get it. Then you have the Bixby button that everyone complains about. But in actuality, it makes total sense for people that don't want to have their phones always listening. I wonder if they and the tech reviewers are complaining about the iPhone having the power button doubling up as a Siri button. In turn causing multiple buttons required to turn off your iPhone X. But I digress, back to Bixby. The only thing I can say about Bixby is, Samsung needs to market this feature even more so as they build up to their GS9 launch. The video below is one of the best videos that really shows exactly how capable Bixby is compared to anything else out there, and it's only gonna get better.

I don't have a problem with Samsung trying their hands at a virtual assistant, but it's kind of a microcosm of the entire Samsung ecosystem. Samsung's apps and services don't hold a candle to the OOB Google Play apps and services. Generally, this is fine, but now there's a button on the phone for Bixby that can't be remapped. It just feels like a superfluous service no one wanted.

I mean, I get it, the Pixel's active edge feature cannot natively be remapped, but that's the Google environment and Google Assistant is the smartest of the assistants*

*smartest, but has less skills than Alexa.

I completely disagree with you. I find Samsung's software on the Note 8 to be very good in many cases. For example I prefer the Samsung Contacts and Mail apps over Google, as well as others, but those are two examples.

As for Bixby, it's primary functions are deep device functions that I don't believe you can do with Google. Each of the assistants has an area that are better in.

That's been the nature of things. Samsung is scrutinized much harsher.

Remember when swiping up to use the Iris and Facial scanner was criticized? Then Samsung added the option to remove that. Now swiping up on the iPhone X after Face ID isn't a problem, and people are willing to deal with it.

Remember the talk of how OLED and higher resolution wasn't necessary, because they didn't need it, they preferred LCD, scared of burn-in, their eyes won't notice much difference, and etc? Now look how giddy iPhone X users are. LOL

Remember how bezels were so much better because you have more area to hold? I haven't seen one complaint about that on the iPhone X.

I can go on and on .... but I've just accepted that fact that's how it is.

IMO, Bixby is better than Siri overall. Bixby is better at many aspects over Google Assistant and vice versa. One major flaw of Bixby is that it doesn't support any other hubs yet other than it's own Samsung Hub. I refuse to purchase a Samsung Hub just to voice control my Phillips Hue lights. But I can keep both Bixby and GA on at the same time, so it's not a big deal, I use them together.

I still never understood the big deal with the Bixby button. It's an extra button that wouldn't exist without Bixby, and everyone bought the Note 8 knowing it was a dedicated button for Bixby. Entitled consumerism at it's finest, especially when it comes to Samsung.

But to be fair ... This is Samsung's fault too. Samsung should know it's consumer base by now. It's not the users that just switched over from iPhones that are doing most of the complaining, it's the ones that have already owned previous Samsung phones that are vocal. Samsung should know the type of long term users they have, and should have just allowed the Bixby button to be disabled and mappable since day one.

Samsung doesn't agree with you. Bixby is DOA.

Bixby is not going anywhere. It's actually maturing quickly.

I think it's Bixby vs Alexa for the home. Samsung has a lot of appliances they could support.

I won't use any voice asdistant, maybe if I could interact any other way. I don't drive so that's not needed.

It is a good feature that should tempt google to put some effort into assistant. Now daily driving assistant, I don’t find it to be much better than Siri.

So that’s why they enabled all their customers to kill the Bixby button outright a little over 6 months from launch?

Is that the evidence you need? Because they're also integrating it with more of their appliances and expanding language availability. I think that kind of trumps giving people choices about a button. If it was DoA, they wouldn't be doing either of those.

I guess they can't win. People complain they didn't provide a way to disable the button. They provide a way to disable it. Now people claim it means they want to kill it off.

I think they are pretty committed to it.

Sure. Most companies relaunch a product six months after release to the general public.

There will be no Bixby button on the next Galaxy iterations and the platform will be morphed into something else.

@Sevanw, not gonna waste the time. I simply reported your post and will concentrate on those who have something more interesting than name calling to offer.

Nice. You have access to the next Galaxy phones? What do they look like? How do they run?

No, I have access to this one. And a major feature Samsung heralded is now disabled.

You disagree, that’s fine. I’m comfortable with my prediction.

It's only disabled if you disabled it. It doesn't come default disabled.

They disabled it because of overwhelming negative feedback/disinterest from the public. It’s not a small thing that they took that step after creating a dedicated spot on the hardware to launch the service. It’s an admission it wasn’t working.

They're just going to rename the Galaxy line Bixby. My source is the guacamole I just ate, but he's fairly reliable.

Speculation is scary stuff.

I think your dislike of Bixby, and the reason of which I'm not sure, is painting why you think they gave people the choice to do something. I doubt most people who bought the S8/N8 said anything positive or negative about it.

Though, let's be real. A larger percentage of people using Bixby probably like it than iOS users and Siri.

Potentially. There's barely anyone who uses Bixby, so those stats could be gamed a bit, I guess. (Interesting that on this subject you're good with speculation. Or according to your own logic I guess you just know everyone with a Galaxy product?)

Samsung gave customers a choice because they hated the hardware button and saw no value add to the service.

Again, a company listens to its customers and offers choice, and you take it as a negative. You're on a roll.

My speculation is "I guess" "I think" and so forth. I haven't made a single statement of fact. You're throwing out things like they're statements of fact.

"Samsung added the option because people hated the button"
"There will be no Bixby button in the future"
"Nobody is using Bixby"

All of these are statements retconned as being "speculation" while really just being pointless attacks from a guy that doesn't like Bixby. We get It, you want them to kill Bixby and refuse to acknowledge that they're pushing forward with it.

If you look at the points ranking on the "My Bixby" page, you'll know that's not true. But of course you most likely never used a phone with Bixby.

It says I'm not ranked and that the top 500k people are. That tells me I haven't used it enough.
