So my friend and I was talking about the MBA, he wouldn't want it though because it's white which makes it girly. - And I completely agree.

There once was an option to get the macbook in black, right?

Does anyone know why they stopped doing them?

I'd personally LOVE it if they introduced a black macbook air, because I find the silverish look pretty dull.

If it was possible to order it looking something like this for instance, wouldn't that be nice?

Does anyone else think its ignorant to classify something based on color?

You could just say you dont like the silver color, but no, you had to be immature and call it "girly."

Its amazing that people, or kids like the thread starter, still need to say something is girly. "Life is to short to let other people dictate what is right for you." In other words, if you like the color, just get it because YOU like it, and tell your friends to go screw themselves if they will be rude enough to say its "girly."

Hi There. I think you mean the normal entry level macbook. It used to be available in black though i'm not sure on it's availability now.

I don't believe white is a girly colour... Do you look at a piece of standard piece of paper and think it's girly?... What about white cars and most planes and boats?

Buy what you want... Not what you think others want.

Ey, that was my friend's words, not mine, although I had to agree with him. In Denmark at least it has the reputation of being a "girl only" computer.

I'm just saying I'd prefer a black color, since I find that color beautiful.

Edit:
Besides, my point is, even though the color wouldn't matter enough for me to not get the new MBA, it definately would matter for enough people.
I wanted to hear you guys about your opinion about a black macbook air, not to get insulted because of a common belief that I happen to share, thank you.

Thats ok then, if you like the black color, get it.

I just get really angry when people talk about this "girly stuff, people need to just be mature about it.

Edit: and if you want to call us 13 year olds, thats fine, but its not true.

Anyway, I personally like the color of the MBA right now. Dont they make a black "skin" for it? If you wanted to get something that looks cool and is black try: http://www.icarbons.com/products/macbook-air

I dont think apple would have enough customers to make a black MBA.

Yeah, I changed the 13 year old comment, since it was inappropriate.

That's what I hate about it right now, one has to buy a skin to make it look black, and I've got 10 thumbs so the end result probably wouldn't look better than it currently does.

Just to be sure... You understand that the
MacBook Air has only ever been available in silver?... Not white or black.

I really think you mean the base macbook
Model.

For now at least, you will have to go with the black skin, or the icarbon. I dont think Apple will release any more black notebooks for a very long time.

Remember to wait until July or June to buy a MBA, and see what the update will bring. Then you can decide what to do.

I believe that Apple only offers their aluminium MacBooks Air and Pro in natural aluminium silver because the only practical ways to color aluminium are either paint or during anodizing. Both these methods only provide exterior color, so any deep enough scratches would show the aluminium's natural silver color.

If Apple were to start using it's recently licensed "Liquidmetal" instead of aluminium, that could open the possibility of seeing non-silver Macs/MacBooks. My understanding is that Liquidmetal can be colored uniformly throughout, so deep scratches would be the same color and therefore not as noticeable.

I personally would be all over a black MacBook Air.

Ah, so that could be why they stopped making macbooks in black. Could be nice if they found the liquidmetal a viable option then.
I personally would be all over a black MacBook Air.

Reread what you wrote and please understand... The macbook air has only ever been available in silver.

Do you understand this?

Okay, when I wanted to clarify I had a brainmalfunction and added the air part by mistake because it's all I've been talking about these last few weeks.
If you read the OP though, you'll find that I did not write it there.

Edit: When you're done breaking the thread up into properly analysed bits and pieces, feel free to get on-topic. - Whether or not the air has ever been black is irrelevant, I said that I myself would like the option to get it in black, just like it used to be possible with the macbook.

I doubt there is much chance that Apple would release a colored version (black, white, blue, red, etc) due to the MBA's aluminum construction. They could always anodize certain colors but that would drive up costs and I don't believe there is enough demand to justify it.

What annoys me most about all the "why no [insert color here]" posts is that there seems to be a need to justify the color choice based on subjective criteria, "my friend thinks it's girly", "the bezel is too distracting", etc. Why not simply say "I like black" and leave it at that.

A preference of color is usually based on subjective opinions.
Edit: Which "I like black" is as well. - It's not negatively loaded but doesn't make it any less/more correct.

I will be buying a mac air after the refresh. This will be my first mac purchase and I hope it is worth it as I have limited funds and have saved for two years to make this purchase. I wanted to comment on the whole "black" topic. I love that Apple stays away from the black coverings. I find them dull and very common. However I guess it is easy to please the masses. I would like to say that I think it is a shame that a person would stop themselves from getting a piece of equipment that has shown itself to be a superior product merely because of the color of its casing. If you dont like it, just get a skin for it. Problem solved.

Yep, bring on the "girly" white. No seriously, I want white too. I would LOVE for a white Macbook Air. I've already expressed how much I want the white iMac back too :D

And kids mostly like mainstream and usually follow the crowd. It's just the way they are.

That would be cool. I have the original Black MacBook right now and love the aesthetics; by far the best looking out of all of them IMO. Of course, I am a little biased but what's wrong with that? :)

But yea, a black air would be pretty cool. I like pretty much any machine with a black matte finish though. On the contrary, if I got another MB I would get something with aluminum because I don't like the white MacBooks at all.

Like yourself?

I myself prefer white/silver over black because it is lighter, brighter and percieve it to be a happier colour than black. If I'm going to use a laptop for the most part of the day I would prefer it to be bright than dull or dark.

I have seen some pictures of MBA's covered in a navy skin which look very nice I'm sure you can find something to suit your needs if you look hard enough.

Ok will you stop being so ignorant and just admit you were WRONG. There has never been a black or white macbook air and you clearly stated otherwise in your first post it never came in WHITE. Stop trying to cover up your mistake honestly
