What kind of BR authoring software would run on a Mini? I've thought of getting Toast 10, but was told that my Intel Graphics chipset would cry.

BR authoring as in burning HD movies to BR disc? it would work fine, would take a while to do everything but it would work nonetheless..

I mean, taking video files and exporting them into an .iso file for a BluRay disc. I don't think plain old iDVD supports that...

i see. a possible series of steps would be:

create the movie in iMovie, save as (export using full quality)*, then burn that movie using Toast.

* alternatively you could open the iMovie document via right clicking and opening the package contents and finding the movie link which means you need no exporting at all.

The only thing holding me back on this is if I watch HD or any file for that matter I have to set vlc to delay the audio by 450ms. I'm connected using a hdmi dongle. Unless the bluray player software works around this I'm stuck.

I'll give it a shot though I'm not hopeful given it's a hardware issue that seems to be causing the problems. Apple really need to support hdmi better

now why on earth would you want to use an analogue connection when a digital one would work just fine??

Yeah,

I expressed my reservation. It's just that my particular HDTV doesn't seem to like connecting either one of my Minis (2009 or PPC), except via a VGA input specifically for "PC", and then using the "Full" setting is what fills the screen well.

The Regza has a built-in DVD player, VGA, a few HDMI inputs, Component, and a gaggle of other connectors. But the Mini only looks good on it for computing purposes via VGA. The built-in Regza DVD player looks better than playing through the PPC Mini, too.

Maybe I'll go back and try connecting the 2009 Mini to the Regza via HDMI, again. But the Regza is only a 720p HDTV, anyway. So I don't see it as a great mate for computing. Of course, playing music and running various iTunes Visualizers on those 32 inches, with sound out to a 5.1 system, is always groooovy.

Peace to you,
C. Livingstone

PS: There is no problem or loss by connecting a 2009 Mini to a HDTV via the included mini-DVI-to-DVI adapter and a DVI-to-HDMI cable, right?

i have found that 720p compatible TVs also support 1080p via HDMI/DVI etc. its pretty cool :D give it a go!

oh right so the same thing as what im using, effectively..

plex can offset audio aswell, but has a lot better support.

is the audio going straight to the TV? or via a sound system?

Tv or sound system suffer the same

Yep. Hit play then delay the audio by 450ms sit back and watch. Apple know about it but they don't officially sell the hdmi dongle so don't give a rats arse. I'm kind of hoping this new hdmi with audio dongle will solve it but we will see.

OH so you are using the audio coming from the HDMI connection!?!?!

No the mini display port does not carry audio. The audio comes from the 2.5mm jack.

The new dongle that should start shipping any day now has a USB soundcard in the single so the sound and picture gies through the hdmi cable

sorry, i havent been following how the new DP output works - i thought it could carry audio. clearly not.

hopefully the new upgrade will fix it!

Very interesting thread!

Has anyone been able to confirm that the 12.7mm Panasonic UJ-235 drives will fit into the latest Nvidia-based Mini??

I already have an external USB-attached BD reader (based on Panasonic UJ-120).. But to put in an internal drive into Mini would be huge.

How much of a surgery would it be to swap the stock optical drive on Mini?
