Does the bluetooth headset show up in the sound pref pane for you?
i was answering the question about what you could use a headset now with. i've been using a plugin headset recently but it's a hassle cause i have music speakers i need to connect also. i have way too many wires to contend with and the headset just gets confused with everything else.

I can't get it to work with my Jabra BT200 headset.

When using "Set up new device", it says "Discovering...", then "Updating 1 device name", and then it goes back to "Discovering...".

When using "Pair new device", it reads the device name but returns an Authentication error.

I am using a Dlink bluetooth adapter.

humm... same thing for me. it used to pair, but not do anything, now it will not pair.

gut, i am using a hawking tech bt adapter. have you updated your dlink?

I got it to pair now, using the code 0000. However, it doesn't show up in speech, iChat or elsewhere.

My DLink wouldn't update. It's too old probably. However, my "Bluemate" USB adapter updated without problems - but it still doesn't change the behavior.

Bluetooth Headphones Someday?

I have a pair of Advent wireless RF headphones, they're not bad, the sound quality certainly isn't as good nicer wired heaphones or my speakers, but they are great when I just want to listen to music while studying, or tv, when my roomate is in the room (college dorm).

Hopefully someday very soon we will have higher quality bluetooth headphones (not headsets, but full stereo headphones). I'll be the first to buy some.

I've got my Jabra BT200 paired up.
The password is 0000 by default, this should alleviate any authentication errors you might be having.
It won't show up under Bluetooth Setup Assistant.

Most notable is that "Speech recognition is not supported using a Bluetooth headset"

I don't know if the person that posted that it would work with speakable items and iChat was giving examples or saying they actually have used it. It seems to me like no software is implementing the update yet.

Here's why bluetooth is so great:

I have an internal bluetooth module on my iBook G4. I also have a bluetooth phone,t he Sony Ericsson t610. For $20 a month T-Mobile, my provider, offers unlimited internet connectivity through my phone.

Everywhere I go, where I have cellphone service, a can be online with my iBook, and I get full dialup speeds consistently where I live.

I do not need a wireless hotspot. I AM MY OWN HOTSPOT. heheheheh

And of course, my phone only has to be within about 30 feet of my computer. I don't need to take it out of my pocket and plug it in. I don't need to put it in any kind of special mode. It just works.

That's why bluetooth is so great.

I have the T616, and for some reason I can't get it to function as a modem so that I can dial out...how'd you accomplish that? All I've seen was Ericson Infrared as a modem option and that is obviously not an option with a 15" AlBook....BTW, you forgot something major you can do with Bluetooth and a cell phone....Using Romeo or some similar applications you can pretty much control your entire computer from the phone....wonderful for iTunes and stuff....plus you can tie the menus to AppleScripts so you can pretty much do whatever you want...

Careful! (panic warning)

Machine spec:
1.25GHz 15" Al-Powerbook, built-in Bluetooth. Apple wireless mouse, Panther 10.3.2.

After installing the update, I went looking for an SDK update to get access to the new features. DON'T INSTALL Bluetooth_SDK_1.4.1.dmg over this update (latest SDK update publically available from apple). No warnings are given. After the obligatory reboot, when the mouse is first detected, the following kernel panic happens every time:

Kernel version:

It can connect to Bluetooth phones (T610) OK, this crash only seems to happen with the mouse. Re-installing the Bluetooth 1.5 update fixes the crash, simply disable the mouse in the meantime.

Wow, that is what I want. How many minutes do you get for the $20 a month.

hmm I've a HBH-30 paired with my G4 but I can't do anything with it ... it also says :

Device Name: HBH-30

Device Address: 00-0a-d9-47-e9-e8
Device Type: Audio
Device Services: Headset

Paired: Yes
Favorite: Yes
Connected: No

My Jabra headset says exactly the same. Or rather, the computer shows it on the screen ;)

no, i was trying to say i've been using a wired headset and now wanted to use a bt headset for viavoice and speakable items.

How to set up the Jabra

This is how I got my headset to work with iChat and appear in the Sound Pref pane. Go to the Utilities folder and open the Bluetooth Setup Assistant. From there set up a headset device. Thats all.

I am only getting the choice whether to set up a mouse, keyboard, mobile phone, printer or "other device". As previously stated, it doesn't work even when choosing "other device".

Jabra Headset Works great on my G4 PM, but not my new G4 PB

I have a Jabra bluetooth headset, it works well on my PM (dual G4 Mirrored Doors) (as long as you go to Sound and choose Jabra for input and/or output). I can record with it, play back through it etc.

I also notice you can only have it paired to one device at a time, so when finished need to re pair it to my mobile phone

But as previous posts have said re their PB, Bluetooth set up assistant searches, it finds my PM, but not the headset, and then there is no "Headset" option for the Bluetooth?

Is this because PBs have internal microphone?

I downloaded 1.5 BT, restarted, in my PM set Sound preferences to choose Jabra headset, and worked like a charm. Great voice quality

Same thing with PB, but does not pair and can not see it?

Any suggestions, as would be really nice to use bluetooth headset with PB when out and about, even to just listen to stuff i am working on with a wired headset or everyone else listening in

speaking of bluetooth...

does anyone know of any wireless provider that offers a clamshell-type wireless phone with bluetooth? The last time i checked sony-ericsson and motorola produced each one model like that, but only for the european market.

Sony Ericsson Z600. A T61X in an antenna-less flip phone design.

More (phone related) uses for Bluetooth:

- Transfer your iCal schedules to your phone, so you get reminders 'on the road'.
- Send SMS messages using your Mac keyboard, so much easier than on a phone.
- Transfer pictures off a camera phone.
- Install background pictures and ring tones on your phone, without having to pay the crazy fees some people pay to download them!
- Backup your phonebook/address book and other files from your phone to your Mac, in case your phone is lost or damaged (happened to me recently!)

Looks like no US carrier offers it yet, unless i want to drop $400 and have one imported.

Are any US carriers offering this model yet (the Z600)? It looks really sweet, though I am a candy bar cellphone man myself. My girlfriend is way into Star Trek though, so of course her phone had to be clamshell, so it would be more tricorder-esque -- she SAID it was so it would be more protective of the screen, and she wouldn't have to lock the buttons, but I got her to admit to the tricorder-lust this morning.

Heh. Though, I gotta wonder....why hasn't anyone licensed the ol' Star Trek Original series communicator likenesses, complete with 60s style chirping? There'd be a lot of people who'd pick those up...

i'm not sure, but you can always get it from a third party and slip your sim card in it.

why does a cell company need to sell it to you?

Remember, that older headsets (hbh-15 and such) only support the headset protocol, so they should work. Headsets that ONLY support handsfree will NOT work. Headsets that support both handsfree and headset protocols will work.
