I bought it and owned it for the better part of 2.5 weeks.

What I sound like is someone who has owned every iPhone and KNOWS what a OS and Battery should function like.

And asking your users not to use KEY functions of such said device IS NOT proper.

That thread I referenced, of which I read EVERY page, you hear people talking about rogue apps, custom kernels, cutting off WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and gasp Cellular Data  in the name of trying to preserve battery. Let alone things like widgets, certain programs (facebook was referenced several times), and black wallpapers... ALL FOR THE SAKE OF SAVING BATTERY!?!?!?

You tell me what good is a device, if I can't USEFULLY utilize the CORE features of it!?

The phone itself is very slick, but you realize very quick that a lot that is offered is gimmicky, the PS3 controller, the video in any app feature, etc...

While that stuff makes you mouth water, it has NOTHING to do with my phone lasting though a NORMAL workday and functioning PROPERLY. Not going into safe mode or randomly crashing on me.

I REALLY REALLY; REALLY wanted to like the phone and gave it an HONEST chance in the REAL WORLD; simply put, it didn't meet my day to day needs and that my friend you can take how you want!?

Whilst I respect your opinion, my point is simply that you CAN use the device to its maximum capacity with it lasting all day and then some if you wanted to do a bit of troubleshooting to see what YOUR phone's problem is that is causing this. I know you feel you shouldn't HAVE to, that is fair. Did you consider returning the phone and getting a replacement? It is possible that you just have a faulty hardware thing going on.

You can't lose with Apple, they really do make a great product so I can see why you would go back to it, but don't think rainbows comes out of Apple's arse. There are MANY forum threads about how horrible the 4S battery life is. If I hadn't solved MY initial battery problems, I would also be returning to the iOS fold. However, I took some extra time to do some troubleshooting and now for the past 2 weeks I am just enjoying USING the phone.

I already offered advice to another poster on 2-3 excellent apps that can isolate your issue. Perhaps you should try that IF battery is your main issue. But it doesn't sound like it is.

As far as us proving your point for you, your main complaint in the OP was primarily battery. Several users have told you quite patiently that YOU are responsible for driving your device with Android. If you can't handle the choice and responsibility, go back to iOS, it's simple.

Again, you SHOULDN'T have to do this. Reasons I don't want to cut services off on my device during work hours are: 1. It's a hassle 2. Several apps I utilize depend on GPS 3. No data is asinine, as the majority of Apps need it

I swear, people who go into major purchases without doing research annoy the hell out of me. We have SO many resources available to ensure that our purchases will be good ones, and yet so few take the time to do the research. However, they will take the time to come onto a forum and whine about it!!

I knew exactly what the GS3 was, is and is going to be (maybe not ) before I purchased it. I didn't go into the purchase blindly but with reviewers flat out LYING in their reviews saying the device gets good battery life (see the thread I posted and google SG3 battery) their's no way anyone can get around that.

While I tire of Apples subtle changes, the device simply does what I need it to do without crashes, horrible battery life, slow charging, etc...

READ MY LIPS... I wanted desperately to like the device and the device alone is decent; however, you can't get away from the fact it's running on Android.

I am telling you that there is likely something wrong with your device or something is running that is causing you bad battery life. Juice defender pro would probably rectify a lot of issues on your phone and help out considerably with battery life.

At no point in time did I suggest you turn off your data. I sure as hell don't turn off my data at any time with this phone. I personally do control the wifi using JD because I found that leaving it on all the time did drain my battery quite quickly.

I don't want to say something incorrect here regarding GPS but it is rather unusual for someone to have it on all day every day. Do all location services apps rely on GPS or do they get positioning in another way? (genuinely curious).

My recommendation, if you can still stomach trying the device, is exchange it and bump the battery once. If you are still having issues, perhaps you really do have an app that is playing mean with your phone that you are not aware of.

Yes it will. I've had the phone since may and I've tested the battery on it. Wifi and Bluetooth are constantly scanning for available networks/devices, so leaving them on affects battery life.

Theory vs. reality mate. In theory it does, in reality I leave them on all the time and get great battery life. I never toggled wifi on/off with my iPhone and have seen no reason to bother with it on my S3.

You don't have to do ANY of this with your phone. Some people like rooting or changing roms. All my previous android phones I did the same but not with the S3. I have it about 2 months now - its completely stock. Not rooted, no battery apps, no rogue apps etc.

I take my phone off charge at 7am and at midnight I have 40% left. That's with 3 email accounts, facebook, twitter, browsing, calls , texts, flipboard etc.

When the majority of your usage is cell standby and phone calls it shows why you get that much battery life.. I can also not use my phone and get 4 days...

Again, you prove one of my points about Android.

That it's bad because it has an app that enables complete automation?

Maybe you missed the part where I said I've had the phone since May and I've tested the battery on it.

It's not a theory when it's been tested and proven.

Just because it works for you doesn't mean it works for everyone. We probably have wildly different configurations, and are on different networks with varying signal strengths.

Tell that to my former GS3 when it went into that mode TWICE!!!

Google it PLEASE!!!

Not to be rude but I noticed too in my few weeks of having the phone and frequenting Android related sites; Android owners too (iPhone owners are guilty as well) are a bit on the fanatical side.

I mean these users acknowledge all of Androids shortcomings like they're normal; just like the above poster... "What safe mode"; as if I'm making ****** up!?

Seriously!? Dude, there is a safe mode and Android while fully customizable is not up to par with the OVERALL functionality of iOS.

I'm sorry guys; I only speak truth; I'm some paid schill or goof troop who doesn't know what he is talking about...

Just googled it and there is indeed a safe mode for Android. This appears to be used for the same thing as windows, to uninstall rogue apps that are causing instability to the system.

When you have an open, customisable OS, bad things can and do happen, you just need to have the knowledge to fix the problems.

This isn't me being an Android apologist... I would rather have the freedom to make things go wrong, than have everything run smoothly but in a walled garden.

I'm talking phones here; I don't care so much for tablets.

Lol @ myself!!!:p

Guess who did what today!?

Before I say, all I want my fellow forum members to remember is didn't I say and I quote that I "REALLY, REALLY, REALLY wanted to give the SG3 a chance"!?

Oh yes I did; so I know you're wondering after returning my SG3 did I give the SG3 another shot!?

Oh no I didn't, however, I did give ANOTHER android a shot; the one I actually wanted all along... which is it you say!?

I'm not going to thread jack, I'll will however let you know in the new thread I start.

It'll have to be tomorrow as this emotional phone roller coaster had drained me.

All I can say for myself is that I have, am and always will be an objective person.

Peace!!!

Sedrick has it right:

iOS is a car with auto transmission, Android is a car with manual.
iOS is toy that works out of the box, Android is a Lego kit.
iOS is a coloring book, Android is a sketchpad.

You have to get your hands dirty and make the phone your own. No more hand holding from Apple.

I really hate when people say they "don't have the time to mess with Android" yet they seem to have time to post on a Mac forum nearly every day. Don't be one of those people.

Haha very well said post, you can basically design android to your liking and love the don't have time quote lol

There's a bug on android 4.0.4 which incorrectly displays the cell standby usage - its out by a factor of ten I believe. In a normal day I have about 1 hour 30 of calls (talk time) and who knows how much screen on time. Varies from day to day but I always seem to have about 30-40% left at the end of the day.

I certainly never need to worry about it getting me through the work day.

Plainly says to me manufactures/carriers don't care and you're on your own to figure it out... No wonder Apple is raking in the dough.

Well, duh. All the android OEMs give jack s### about android. Their real concern is selling their new shiny hardware. Google's real concern is conducting their ad business. Expecting any of these to care about android at the same level Apple cares about iOS or Microsoft cares about Windows is blind stupidity.

Of all my years of owning androids, i have always believed android should have been snatched by a caring manufacturer, re-written in a C variant than a Java virtual machine (maybe turned into a TRUE linux distro), and developed and produced for the customers with them in mind, not just the 1000000000 models of hardware.
