My girlfriend, whom I live with is getting a 24" iMac for xmas! I'm so excited. I ordered it 2 months to the DAY I ordered mine.

Man I'm giddy..

I just ordered her 4gb of Mushkin memory from newegg for 107.99 shipped w/ a 20 dollar Mail in Rebate, making 4GB of ram 88 dollars!

no kidding you will be on her good side for quite a while, good thinking there my friend ;), now i think you both will be happy in the long run

Wait, I'm confused. You bought a 2nd 24" iMac? Sure, its for your girlfriend, but if you guys live together isn't it a bit superfluous?

WoW! That is one of the biggest presents I have ever heard of anyone giving a girlfriend.

Is this a possible engagement present?

Nah it's just a "cuz I can" present.

The ring comes later.. as much as I think Apple stuff is overpriced, I think De Beers and the diamond exchange has Apple beat for markup.

she doesn't use my mac and I don't use her pc, so in a word. no.

Yeah, but why not a 20"? Or, heck, even a Mac mini? Does she really need all that power and screen real estate?

Mac Mini's are overpriced and underpowered. I thought about a 20" but the screen gradient (top to bottom) is huge (IMHO).. and I don't think it's priced well. The 2.4GHz 20 is 1499, a 2.4GHz 24" is 300 more, seems like a better bargain to me. Plus a TN panel vs a H-IPS panel.... well you get the idea.

FWIW;
I've bought every apple product I've ever owned this year with the exception of a 30GB iPod video (5.5gen).

iMac 24"
AppleTV 160GB
iPhone 8GB
iMac 24" (for girlfriend)

Price aside, (Which I don't agree with your take on it) the mini is definitely not underpowered. An extra gig of RAM and it'll run CS3 almost flawlessly.

Plus, you could've gotten a better monitor with it.

In any case, hope she likes the iMac.

a 2.0 Mini is 799, add a 20" screen to make it comparable to a iMac and you've got a thousand dollar Mac Mini. Add a keyboard and mouse ~50 bucks. Add a gig of ram, 50 bucks.. stuck with a 5400 RPM drive.. sad :(. Not to mention 120GB vs 320GB on the base iMac, the 64MB Intel GMA 950 graphics (booo!) on the mac mini. By the time you are done the 20" iMac is a much better deal.

She better like it or I'll be frustrated for sure.

She stated she wanted a Mac before she bought her HP. (which is a few years old and an icky Celeron).

P.S How is boerne? My buddy was down there in October for a big VW fest. I missed out this year..

Sorry for the confusion everyone.

Yes, the question is why have 2 24" iMacs. I was just curious. My thinking is you can just create a seperate user account on the iMac for her or get her a Macbook (Pro) if you were looking for a second computer. That way you have a sweet desktop AND a sweet laptop.

But I get that you kids don't use each others computers so fair enough. I just hope you don't have to buy two of everything!
