But I get that you kids don't use each others computers so fair enough. I just hope you don't have to buy two of everything!

Two cars, separate tooth brushes. Different personalities. Different bodies. Yeah pretty much two of everything but the bed.

Sounds like you bought it more for yourself than your gf, but that's generous of you.

She wanted a Mac before she bought her HP. Why would I need two iMacs? If I wanted another Mac for myself I'd buy a MBP or Blackbook.

Believe me, I've done the same for my wife, buying things for her because I was more excited about them than she was, so I hope your gf likes it. Congrats on the purchase.

Oh, don't break up with her!

Yeah, hoping she really enjoys it. I know she likes mine. Here's to hoping...

If not I guess I can sell it and buy her a lump of compressed coal. (bleck)

As usual, MacMall is being a complete cluster. "Order today get it tomorrow" all over their site.. used appropriate shipping (next day) to get it that way.. and every rep I talk to says they cannot be sure it'll ship today.

Nice gift. Hope she likes computers as much as the rest of the people in this forum do!

Um...he didnt

Um... he did.

2nd Mac ≠ second hand Mac

We have four macs in our apartment. GF has 24" iMac, iBook. I have Mac Mini and ACD and 12" PowerBook.

Yes, the question is why have 2 24" iMacs. I was just curious. My thinking is you can just create a seperate user account on the iMac for her or get her a Macbook (Pro) if you were looking for a second computer. That way you have a sweet desktop AND a sweet laptop.

I still don't see what's wrong with two desktops in an apartment... it's what I have...

Yeah, but why not a 20"? Or, heck, even a Mac mini? Does she really need all that power and screen real estate?

:D You gotta love this assumption that a 'she' wouldn't need all that "power and screen real estate"!

God bless Texas

Speaking of assumptions, you know that cassie is female, right?

maybe she will say, i actually want a diamond ring for christmas. or a car.

Hahaha! Thanks for the laugh this morning. Sometimes I need to read something ridiculous to get me jump started on a cold morning.

Yeah lets see. 2Ghz, 5400 rpm laptop drive (120 gig), 1 gig of ram. 64 meg intel GMA950 video - 799.

lowest end iMac. 2ghz, 7200rpm 250gb drive, 20" screen, 128mb dedicated video - 1199

yeah, mac mini is overpriced.

If you wanna get technical, the mini is made for a niche market. It's made for folks who are looking to make the leap from PC to Mac, but don't want to put out 2 grand for something they may not like. Also, everything Apple makes is overpriced. But we who love them pay it without batting an eye.

Nothings wrong with it, it just seems excessive to me. Apparently, judging by the reactions and the confusion I have created in this thread, my opinion is not shared by many.

:)

I just think it's because, I am now using this computer, and if my girlfriend needs to do some work/email etc then I have to leave the computer.

Also, as we're not married, our own things are just that - our own. I think the reaction has come from the fact that people tend to own their own things when not married - not go in 'halves' as you might in a marriage.
