Wonderful. As soon as they can implement their own engines we will be in a world completely dominated by Chrome. 🤢🤮

To all those complaining about Apple being 90s Microsoft and yet welcoming the Chrome takeover:

Yes it is. It makes it look as though installs increased 250%, when it was closer to 40%.
I understand why people are complaining but the actual numbers are right there on the chart (in contrast to misleading Apple relative performance chats). If you watch CNBC, all their charts look like this one.

Interesting that Safari isn’t even shown in that randomized screen of browser choices. A top ten list sounded like a ridiculously large number of browsers, but I guess that allows it to be a large enough number to make the user have to scroll.

But Chrome being monetised by Google ads is anti-competitive. Chrome should be free to be monetised by other ad networks or direct user fee.

Safari (especially!!!) and Firefox are being monetized by Google ads too but, again, all of this is more of a Google search/ad "anticompetitiveness" issue than a browser "anticompetitiveness" issue.

Those browsers weren’t blocked and neither is Brave. I just downloaded it and immediately was prompted to make it my default browser. There is a difference between blocking it from running and advertising other browsers available. In its base form, it is a slap in the face to consumers because the message that sends is the general end user is not capable of deciding in their own, it has to be advertised to them.

I never said they were blocked. I was reacting to your comment that platforms (like Windows, iOS, etc.) should be able to decide what is allowed or not allowed on their platform and that was behind my Microsoft/browsers question i.e., do you think MS should've been allowed to (not whether they did or not) restrict or even block alternative browsers on Windows as that would be their decision as to what is allowed on their platform.

If that ends up happening, at least it would be due to consumers choosing rather than Apple restricting choice on a major segment of the mobile OS market.

If Apple wants to try to reduce Chrome's dominance, they could release Safari for Windows and Android. I would love to see that happen.

Again, not what I said. I said equal footing, not banned. Equal footing is putting the same level of attention on other browsers, such as advertising what the most popular browsers are. That already exists to a degree in the Appstore. I am more than capable of deciding which browser I want to use. Having the Government step in is almost insulting, suggesting users are not smart enough to find these things on their own.

Well, then you're the perfect person for browser choice screen! To learn about most used browsers out there.
just never saw a need. A browser is a browser. Safari does just about everything and it’s easy to keep synced across all my apple devices. On the rare it doesn’t work for some reason i can fire up chrome for a banking website or something incompatible. Something more obscure than safari doesn’t seem logical to me

Maybe enhanced privacy? No ads?

Yeah, you can always drive Ford and be fine. Or you can try Lexus or Audi and find alternative that suits you even better.
