there 3 are my favorite ones of the lot, with the tiny bridge getting the cake!

I wanted to ask you how's the exhibition preparation is going over facebook, but I got my answer on the POTD thread yesterday. Did you delete your fb account & page?

The little wooden bridge is my fave too!

I don't really do social media, internet forums not included, so cancelled my Facebook and Twitter accounts. I'm pretty well ready, just one more image to finish editing and print out now. I have frames, venue layout, etc.. all sussed now. So am actually ready about a month and a bit ahead of the exhibition. For my first ever exhibit of pictures, I'm pleased with my collection, it shows my progress of taking long exposures, which I really only started doing about November of last year.

For what it's worth, I found the first detailed response to be incredibly interesting. I rarely think about my composition in such a systematic way, but it does make sense when I think about, and some of my favourite shots definitely take advantage of some of this light/dark space, lines, and things of that nature. I found the image in the OP to be not to my taste, but I can certainly believe that it may help if it's skillfully printed.

And to add to pictures of bridges, here go a few more. I love bridges too!

This is more of a city scape with a bridge thrown in almost as background.

This is the photo I always bring up whenever anyone questions my credentials. I sold a print of it once. There, I'm a qualified professional. ;)

Something is wrong with this picture, it looks like it's not straight, but when I take out a ruler, I cannot prove it.

This is from the cold and wet Newfoundland.

And as a finale, a bridge that connects two separate states.

I quite like this one but it does appear to be a bit low on the right...could also be a bit high on the left. :)

I like train bridges

Tyne Bridge

OK Guys,

Comments welcome, flames and outright cruelty will be taken as such :)

Welcome your perspectives on these. I know of the obvious blown highlights, crap alignment with other Bridges etc but putting them up to show my favourite bridge of the world.

Ken.

Is there always mist under the Golden Gate Bridge? It seams to have it in nearly every photo I see. Anyway, nice picture.

This one looks like it should be in Harry Potter. All it needs is a steam train and it would be perfect. Nice PP.

Love these! could see the first one in a frame on my wall... beautiful capture.

Thanks!

It's a very cool bridge. All of these are pleasing. I like the first one the best, but that's largely personal taste :). I tend to not offer detailed critique as a rule and almost universally regret it after the fact when I do.

You're lucky to have a subject near you that you really love. My only advice would be to keep shooting it! Ask yourself what you like or don't like about all your previous photos. Try different times of day, different weather, different seasons. Keep trying different perspectives, both off the bridge and on the bridge. Experiment with really crazy stuff that breaks the "traditional" rules. May not work, but it may foster some ideas that will bear fruit later. Most importantly, have fun :)

Thank you kindly. I like the silouette of the lights on the bridge. I think a few night shots and some from some more "less trodden" angles would be good.

Thanks as always AFB! One of the things I love about visiting SF is the crazy way the weather always seems to vary dramatically between different parts of the city and yet stays constant within those parts.

I like all of these!

The first of the Brooklyn Bridge seems to have been taken from almost the same spot as my earlier pic in the thread. Both were shot ultra-wide (my pic at 14mm and cropped to vertical, yours with a fisheye). Very different takes on the same scene. I like the distortion with the fisheye :)

I like your retro take with the second. Nice. I have a soft spot for aqueducts.

The third is lovely.

I also really like your last pic of the tower bridge. Nice take on it.

Ken.

I like the second and fourth ones the most.

The second one, as opposed to the last has the light hitting the side of the bridge structure and it really calls it out well- it accentuates the arch and the white sky works for me here as negative space, putting the focus on the subject without having to visually pick it out of a distracting background. The colors also work really well and the angle is pleasing. The sky and side lighting help to bring a fuller depth to the image. I'd probably experiment with taking the contrast down a notch or two to see how that affects the image, but overall I like it.

The symmetry and saturated sky in the fourth one make it very postcard-like- the sort of reminder of a trip that people used to collect years ago. A few more clouds in the sky and it'd also be one of those jigsaw puzzle images from the same era.

I like your compositional eye for these, and hope you keep revisiting the subject in different lighting and weather and share the results.

Thanks - I noticed the similarity with the Brooklyn Bridge pics. We really must have been almost on the exact spot. Great minds, etc, etc...

London bridge at sunset
I didn't say it was "London Bridge".

... so I see

The original London Bridge is indeed in Arizona. It was replaced by the imaginatively named.... London Bridge, which is just along the Thames from London bridge which is called Tower Bridge. Did you get a picture of London building where the Queen lives also?

Thanks, great feedback. maybe I have a chance at getting moderately competent at this after all. Thank you.
