Apple knows it is an issue, but just doesn't want to fix it or acknowledge it in the hopes that the problem arises *after* the warranty is up, afterwards it's a SoL kinda thing.
I had the same issue with my 2018 12.9" iPad Pro. One month out of warranty and Apple was like "well, we can replace the screen for $850 or you can just buy a new one."
With every new iteration of Apple products, the feeling that Apple expects it to last only as long as the warranty and make it super difficult to repair outside of their sphere, the more I drift away from the company.
