The same happened to me. I was told to report the issue here. So they could open a Replacement Program. Hope this helps.

Its been what, 3 years already and they havent aknowledged it officially, thus they never will. With those 10.5" ipads within warranty simply making "quiet" replacements and thats all.

What VaruLV said.

Apple knows it is an issue, but just doesn't want to fix it or acknowledge it in the hopes that the problem arises *after* the warranty is up, afterwards it's a SoL kinda thing.

I had the same issue with my 2018 12.9" iPad Pro. One month out of warranty and Apple was like "well, we can replace the screen for $850 or you can just buy a new one."

With every new iteration of Apple products, the feeling that Apple expects it to last only as long as the warranty and make it super difficult to repair outside of their sphere, the more I drift away from the company.

My last replacement has just developed one again, but since I have AppleCare+ it's time for another swapout.

Were that true, Apple would be hemorrhaging cash via AppleCare+, and they are not.

Dunno... I've been Apple-centric since the mid-80s, and the last decade has not been kind regarding my Apple machines. I'm just worried that they've lost their way, as each device lasts less and less time.

My 2011 iMac failed in 5 years, whereas I got 9 out of my 2001 iMac and 8 out of my 2008 iMac. My 2019 iMac is already having problems with overheating issues and random restarts and every time Apple has gone in they say "well, the diagnostics we just ran while the system was idle don't show any issues" and send me on my way.

My wife uses her 2013 iPad mini about 3x more than I use my 2018 iPad Pro and, except for the fact that she can't update anything, the screen and the device still work just about as well as they did when she got it. Meanwhile my iPad Pro has a failing screen due to no fault of my own and Apple is all like "well, your warranty is up so, oh well..."

Individual stories rarely make for good data points; I always like to relate the true story that my Grandma smoked like a chimney all her life and she died of Alzheimer's without so much as a cough let alone lung cancer, but that in no way means smoking is safe.

I'm still running my 2010 Mac Pro 5,1 on Mojave with no issues, and have had a few iMacs that lasted well beyond five years that I only updated for performance reasons.

This iPad Pro spot issue is annoying, I admit, but then again I have no other issues with it and would just live with it if AppleCare+ coverage didn't mean I don't have to.

this is horrible. how has apple not done anything about this yet?
According to Apple fan boys and girls, they have - they are replacing them... within warranty only. Oh and the amount of reported defective units is so miniscule that can't be considered wide spread issue and thus nothing has been done to improve build quality of 10.5" models. Just another "you're holding it wrong/looking at it from the wrong angle" situation in Apple world.
Don't get me wrong, love my ipp 12.9 and iphone mini, but they are ******s for giving rats bottom about customers who paid hefty premium for defective designs.

I have this issue on my 10.5 and tried to trade it with the purchase of a new pro and my offer was revised to $0 due to display damage. What a joke like I caused this.
I had the same thing happen however in my case the spot was not there when I sent the iPad in but is definitely there when they returned it with a $0 trade in value. Will never again purchase with a trade in directly through Apple.

Just had this on niece’s 2019 Air. Light halo on screen edge next to home button, white Mark around 1.5 inches above that, couple of other edge halos elsewhere as well.

Swapped in store immediately under AppleCare. Guy that served me was familiar with the issue and had no hesitation swapping out.

Whats real sleazy about this is that they are red flagging a problem during trade-ins that they deny is a re-call worthy issue. The Apple genius who turned me down for an out of warranty exception (I was only like 2 months out I think) said that her 10.5 pro had the same issue.

And now my 2018 11 Pro started doing phantom touches which I find threads all over the internet after doing a search. And this is outside of warranty as well. Meanwhile my families Mini 3, mini 4, and Mini 5, Ipad Air (1st gen) all doing fine years down the line. Two Pro ‘s in a row and I find a widespread issue that Apple won’t acknowledge. Lovely! Thanks Apple!

+1 with 10.5 iPad Pro White Spot on screen above home button…… just realized now how many people are also experiencing the same issue.…. Report sent to Apple

Ironically, I’ve now seen white spots on an iPhone 6s and a 2008 MacBook, but not on my iPad Pro 10.5”.

[…] As an owner of one naturally this thread scares me still but hey we’ll see. My 10,5 is brand new (or well, manufactured oct 2018) so I’ll revisit/necro this thread in 2021 and let you know!
Hello 2019 me. Here to report. Used almost daily and no bright spot yet. Data point registered!

All 3 of my kids iPad Air 3’s have devoped this issue, luckily have apple care+ so will have to get these all replaced before warranty is up

My iPad Pro 10.5 is probably the most run down and busted Apple product I’ve ever owned. Absolutely no accidental physical damage, but I now have 3 bright spots, random periodic shutdowns, and most annoying of all the Smart Connector has totally stopped working. Very disappointing for a product that’s not too terribly old in the grand scheme of things.

No reply, I guess? They just don't give a damn sh*t.
Why should they? Most people will just shrug at the issue, "upgrade" to another iPad but this time buy AppleCare+. Issues like these don't hurt Apple financially, they actually help them. Why should they fix these issues if customers will give them MORE money (by purchasing an extended warranty) if they don't fix them?

Unfortunately you're absolutely right. They have the power - especially with the iPad as I don't see feasible alternatives. However, they should also care about the customers... In an ideal world.........

ipad pro 12.9, in use for 1,5 years.
2 white spots, the smaller one is much less apparent on the photo.
awful blue yellow intermitten stage light from one side.
