Well exactly one month since getting my iPad replaced it now won't charge so back to the store I purchased from and another replacement to be arranged, hopefully by weeks end. NOT HAPPY! Tried to see if I can upgrade but to no avail. When the next one arrives i'll see what the trade in value is to see if that is an option.

I am amazed why the hell they still making this model, why on earth would anyone purchase this as a fresh piece, all of the units manufactured are going in replacements, they should upgrade the faulty in warranty devices to 11’ pro and call it a day

I've had three conversations over upgrading and got nowhere. Agree, they should replace them with 11" Pro.
same. I even told them I’d settle for a refurb. This is the only Apple product I am on my 4th replacement unit.. and I’m not one of those users looking for problems. I’ve had bright spots, hot units, squeaky screens….

worst purchase ever. I remember purchasing this right around when the 11 came out because of how much money it saved me and the processor was still really good (still is). I was not expecting a model that was plagued with issues.

Right now I’m rocking a iPad Air 4 which has light (LCD) bleed. Will be replacing it soon… AT LEAST this issue didn’t rise up in a year+ after warranty. Lots of threads are out there about this issue on the air so I’d avoid it if you’re a 10.5 owner looking to upgrade since there might potentially be another manufacturing defect. We have had so many iPhones with ZERO issues, but iPad is a completely different story.

If I decide to upgrade I'll wait for the new 11" to buffer upgrades in the future as I don't change every model. Being retired money is finite ? unlike when I was working ?

Really! Oh dear. Didn’t realise the Air 4 had the same problem so wide spread.

If I upgraded my 10.5 i was thinking of going the Air 4 route but not sure now I’ll hand to read up.

So the 11” never has had this problem? Seems strange if so that if Air 4 has they haven’t learnt why and prevented it again for a new model.

I don’t really need a Pro iPad so was thinking of the Air 4 after my 10.5. Wouldn’t really want to go to the 11” 2018 as that’s wore old now, and the 11” 2020 is still a bit expensive.

The replacement I got doesnt have it as bad, but still is there to a degree. I think if you can find a 2018 iPad Pro 11” refurbished with warranty for a good deal I’d go for that i have not seen many people complain about bleed on the 2018 and 2020 pros.

Doesn’t seem to be you’re right, wonder why. Can’t imagine the technology behind both is that different. Any issues reported on the 11” Pro?

Seems now that I can get a 2020 11” pro 128Gb for around the same price as Air 4 256Gb. Not sure which go for. Obviously more storage is a lot better, and I’m not bothered on FaceID or touchID as both good.

Is just rather have a decent iPad, future proofing a bit without worry of this issue.

I think I have seen maybe 1 thread on MacRumors about somebody saying they had LCD bleed on either their 2018 or 2020 iPad Pro 11" but i cant find it atm. Keep in mind the actual display connector is in a different spot on the 11" Pro than the Air 4 despite them having a almost identical design on the outside. Probably because the Pro has 2 more speakers and the battery is set up different.

- 11" Pro

- Air 4

I wonder what @l.a.rossmann would say about this and if he has any experience with this model in the shop.
I think for many of us (including me) this was just the first taste of Apples QC issues and bad internal hardware design... Macbooks especially have had all kinds of different issues for years - good video by Louis on Apples engineering

There should have been a recall program for this model (and the Air 3) but it probably would have cost Apple too much $ to redesign the internal layout so this wouldn’t happen over and over.

so is there a consensus on what is the problem for the white spot issue? anyone got that figured out? i am thinking that if apple is gonna release ipad 9 with 10.5 body will the issue prevail as well ? can it be fixed, or split battery design is a sure way to get this problem back? thoughts?

Pressure point where the display plugs in, but for some people it spread elsewhere so not 100% sure. Luckily mine only had it in that spot and never spread or got bigger.

what puzzles me is that even though I find instances like these ( first this and then this) amusing, it seems not every unit did develop white spot problem. why is that? not every unit has design fault? not every unit has used hard enough for the issue to pop-up? not every one tap hard on the screen using keyboard instead most of the time?

I have this issue on my 10.5 and tried to trade it with the purchase of a new pro and my offer was revised to $0 due to display damage. What a joke like I caused this.
yeah, I would let apple know they lost a purchase because of that. That's how I'd feel if I were trying to trade in my 10.5 that also has the same issue.

You might try an in-store trade in. Generally, those inspections are less thorough and you’ll know right away if you’re getting the full value or not.

Itdoesn't look like an impact damage thing, I don't think - it's bigger, softer. It looks more like uneven backlighting, and I think it fades and brightens depending on how warm the iPad is.

Oh boy. My iPad Pro 10.5 have just started with this issue. The warranty is over so Apple refused to do anything to it. I was told by the Apple support agent, that I should report my case on this website.

According to him, if there are enough similar reports, they could open a Service Program for this issue.

I have the white spot just above the home button On my 10.5 pro. Noticed at 18 months. It might have been there longer, not sure. I called Apple and they won’t fix it for free. Cosmetic issue they claim. Hopefully a class action or something else gets them to cover the known hardware issue. A 1000$ product shouldn’t have it‘s screen malfunction at 18 months without coverage for a known manufacturing defect.
The same happened to me. I was told to report the issue here. So they could open a Replacement Program. Hope this helps.
