Been testing out an XS Max here for a couple of weeks. While the thing has nice points, the lack of bezels is actually annoying. I agree with this reviewer wholeheartedly.

There's actually some stress involved with trying to hold the stupid phone just right in order not to accidentally trigger some unintended response. For example, I can't tell you how many times I have accidentally triggered the bluetooth adapter screen because my music apps (like Spotify) have a line called "xxx Adapter" in green at the bottom where the bezel used to be! So annoying!

The phone has a bad case of PMS all the time: it's so darn touchy.

Don't understand the obsession with getting rid of bezels and 'chins'. Sounds to me like a case of form over function regardless of the cost.
I have to disagree, for a device we carry with us all day long, removing bezels is part of the function. It's essentially replacing useless areas on the device with useful ones.

I disagree with quite a few things about the iPhone but I have to say Apple really nailed it with their flexible connector allowing them to remove the chin. The notch will go away at some point when some genius finds a way to place a camera under a screen.

I don’t have any issues with unintended responses on the XR, but I do have an issue of feeling stress in my wrists and thumbs from using the phone. I’ve used it for a month now and it’s looking like I will need to switch to a smaller phone. The XR is very nice and I much prefer it but the ergonomics on the phone (at least for me) are making it unusable. If I could use the OLED screen on the XS it would be an easy choice, but it’s looking like I’ll be selling the XR and going with the 8. Hopefully Apple will release a smaller version of the XR next year.

That’s a good article and I’m definitely starting to agree with it based on my own experience.

But as soon as the screen came on, wouldn't you see the hardware of the camera under the glass? I've said it many times, even before I had a notched iPhone, the notch never bothered me. It is a much better option than the new Samsung S10 and new Huawei hole punch.

The notch doesn't bother me either on my phone and I prefer it to the bigger bezels but it's still not perfect.

I don't know how but at some point the notch will have to go. The hole punch is just another very imperfect workaround, and so are the current motorized cameras.

Maybe a perfected motorized camera will be the solution, or maybe someone can invent a way to really hide a camera and sensors under the screen that wouldn't be noticeable to the naked eye. Imagine breaking up the camera sensor into tiny (smaller than a pixel tiny) fragments, working together under tiny holes all over your screen.

Obviously I have no idea if it's even possible to implement something like this but I'm sure there are very smart people trying to find better solutions to this notch situation.

They aren't coming back so its time to move on

Joel, galadaligirl, AndroidBlows whoever you are.

Based upon your complaint threads, maybe the iP8 is the best choice cause it has bezels and it's a lot smaller.

The OP is always buying new iPhones, complaining about them, and then returning them. All you seem to do is create negative threads.

How about buy Android and complain about it for a while.

Apple is not going to bring back big bezels.

Can you clarify the post below, because you mentioned in the past that you didn’t like the XS Max and you returned it, so now you’re testing one? I understand the bezel argument, but why would you be testing a Max when you owned one previously?

After using the xs max for a while, coming back to the 8 was a relief..
