Update on the MPX Modules via Apple in Australia - they have push back delivery another 2-3 weeks.

I’m beginning to doubt they have them in stock and the website listing is wrong.

The Apple rep was absolutely certain they would be on the way next week but the email I received had changed delivery dates. I’ll call again today.

Is that the W6800X Duo cards you are waiting for?
Yes!

I have asked them again and again, do you really have them available and each time the rep says yes.

At least the Apple call center is well staffed so only short waiting times on the phone, unlike banks…

The 28 core is great - runs very nicely and cool as well. I am extremely pleased with mine.

To change it is easy, just make sure you have the required T15 Torx screwdriver that is long (the bit must be 152mm long). I used Noctua thermal paste and cut a bit of plastic from an ice-cream container lid as a spatula to spread the thermal paste evenly. I didn't have the Wera torque adjustable screwdriver, so just used my small adjustable torque wrench (for bicycles) with a fitting for the T15x152mm bit. That did the job perfectly for tightening the 2 heatsink screws. Of all the Mac Pros, the 7,1 is by far the easiest to work on.
I installed the 24-core today. Had to purchase a Wera screwdriver 7461 1.2 Nm and long bits,

It certainly is very easy, to change the CPU, with the right tools. 👍

Ran some Cinebench tests today, Cinebench scores

Amazon Sweden had a pair of new W6800X Duo MPX modules for "sale" but at 62500kr which at my exchange rate is extremely expensive.

Apple online store support are completely useless, very polite but can't answer the simple question - do you really have these cards available, and where are they at the moment.

Any other computer retailer has no problems finding out that most basic information - yes it's at our supplier and it's being shipped. But no, not Apple.

That's for the W6900X.
The W6800X Duo is at 62500 Sek. I suppose the VAT/sale tax of 25% here is much higher than in other countries.

It is very disappointing that Apple can't provide you with timely information

Yes you are right.

Hefty price - ends up at AUD$8800 with exchange rate. Geoblocked as well.

get both, then you agree with 100% of voters.... but there may never be an m3 studio... m4?

With the Mac Pro issue of not mounting PCI/SSD drives with Sonoma I would stay away from that machine. There is no future with the Intel based machine - I have one.

Do the 2023 machines do this too?

Or do the cards just not work at all? I know about the issues in 2019 machines as I’m affected by it.

The other alternative could be a Lenovo PX - that can be upgraded much further than any Mac. At the stage I couldn’t recommend buying any new desktop Apple computer.

What a weird reply given to avro707. Considering he is already part of that discussion, and made the last comment as well
🤔

I believe Apple wants to get out of the desktop market.
WWDC might give us some clues, but I'm dubious.
If nothing is announced this fall it's probably curtains.

And runing Catalina.
So would have opencore also.

Interesting. That was the one of the reasons I went with newer Mac Pro machines to avoid the need for opencore - just a bit too fiddly for work use.

I still have a couple of 5,1 machines with OC though.
