I know this might have been raised many times before but here it goes...

My iPhone 6Plus has been a champion surviving all this time, but I feel that it's time to upgrade. I can still wait till 2019 but hey it's Christmas so I'm considering my options ;)

I can get the iPhone X for $820 or the XS for $1,050 where I live, or wait till 2019 if the rumors indicate that it will be worth it.

As you noticed, I don't upgrade often, so I want to make sure I get a good enough deal. What do you guys recommend?

If you wait any longer, you may as well wait until September 2019.

Yep agreed. I have the luxury of typing this from my iPhone X so my perspective is a bit different, but I’d like to see if the 11 presents any drastic changes.

If your 6+ could make it another 9 months, I would wait it out and see what 2019 bring. You should then get this year’s XS for cheaper next year once the new one is announced, if you don’t want the 2019 version.

Since you don't upgrade often, get the most you can afford now so it will last. That would be the XS. Cell networks are going 5G and Apple may have stated they won't have a 5G phone until 2020. That could be the next time to upgrade for you if you desired faster internet connection speeds.

I agree, remembering the 4G rollout, it will be 4-5 years before it's here in S. AZ. I can wait now.

I say buy now. Taken advantage of the prices that apple offes for trade in. I mean they’ll likely redesign the X models to something inspired by the iPad but it’s a whole year of waiting and it’s not a guaranteed. iPhones last for years if taken good care of and software support will be there. There’s really nothing in the pipeline that will wow people about smartphones in general other than small updates like smaller notches, better camera, etc.... the only thing is the battery on the xs doesn’t seem to be as good as the xr or the max.

If you have to ask others, there probably is no need to update a working device other than have something new.

On the other hand, if you have the spare money and decide that the good deed for Christmas should go to you, go out and treat yourself (although buying your own presents has zero Christmas spirit left over) and enjoy.

I am holding to our 6+ and 6S+ in the family until the 5G rollout. No point abandoning perfectly functioning equipment, yet paying thousands of dollars for (IMO) only small increments in core capabilities.

No matter when you upgrade, it still will be a substantial upgrade either way you factor it from your 6s. But since you’re asking and you’re highly interested, I say upgrade now. I don’t foresee the 2019 iPhone being ‘Leaps and bounds’ better over the 2018 XS.

OP has a 6+(not 6S) so he should see an even bigger performance improvement from the upgrade

Correction on my behalf. On that note, Form factor wise, it’s all the same. However, ‘Bigger performance upgrade’ applies to just about _any_ phone over the 6 realistically. (Not trying to nitpick your post, just wanted to state the obvious).

Why don't you just get the iPhone 8? Much better phone than the X series and retains the home button and doesn't give you an ugly notch.

I totally agree with you on that point. I hated the 6, only iPhone I’ve ever sold a month after I bought it as I saw no improvements in performance over my 5S besides the new, bigger form factor. 6S is still a great phone..

If I were you, I'd happily buy the Xs. It will be a huge improvement in terms of speed and camera, design-wise also.

If you really can wait, I say wait until that sucker is just done. See if you can hold out until 5g! Get every pennies worth of your purchase.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Do you think 2019 iphones will keep the X/XS overall design (form/camera/notch). Maybe I sould do a poll and see what everyone thinks...

IMO you should get the Xs now!

I upgraded from the iPhone 7. The iPhone Xs is FAR AND AWAY the best iPhone I've ever owned.

I've hated the home button for as long as I can remember. I also, have wanted wireless charging (highly underrated feature IMO) for as long as I can remember. Admittedly, I was a Face ID skeptic when I had my iPhone 7... Boy oh boy was I wrong!!!

Face ID >>> Touch ID

I noticed a huge jump in performance going from the 6+ to the 7. Imagine what the jump will feel like for you... It'll be a QUANTUM LEAP forward!!!

Do yourself a favor and let the 6 go, you won't regret it!!!
