Why? I mean, specifically why do you think the 2019 iPhone when offered will be that the much of a greater advantage over the 2018 XS that would be much of a differential? I say the XS is a great buy year round, we don’t even know what the 2019 iPhone will offer or how different it will be over the XS.
Personally, I only bought iPhone 4, and iPhone 6, till the iphone x came out, i got my iPhone X.

But the X series HAS issues that the 8 does not. At least we agree on that.

The only thing giving me pause about purchasing an XS is the reported PWM of the OLED screen. I'm concerned it will be rough on my eyes and by the time I confirm it's a problem the return period will have passed. I wonder if there is any hope that the 2019 version will make some improvement to this, but I figure it's probably unlikely.

Face ID 2 will be worth the wait since we are already on the verge of January.

Think how much TouchID 1 sucks compared to TouchID 2. Everyone thought gen 1 was perfectly fine...until gen 2 came out...and now gen 1 TouchID devices seem painfully slow to use.

I have an iPad Pro 1st gen and I used TouchID 2 for 2 years on my 7 Plus. TouchID 1 still seems adequate to me.

Honestly I don't think FaceID is lacking speed, it's lacking some convenience. It does not work with my Persol sunglasses.
Run-of-the-mill Ray-Ban aviators do not work either. This bothers me A LOT.

I can’t see the 2019 iPhones being that enticing. But it doesn’t hurt to wait for the 2018 iPhones to drop in price.

It’s almost better to go on the 2 year cycle now. I have the X and am already pumped about the 2019 rumors to flow in.

If prior models are any indication, we might see Gen 2 FaceID next year. Personally, I don't have any problems with the speed or accuracy of Gen 1 FaceID (though I think Apple could improve several UX aspects), but I didn't have any problems with Gen 1 TouchID, either...but Gen 2 was a huge improvement. Will that repeat in 2019? Impossible to say.

Face ID 2 will almost address some of the issues with "twins" unlocking the phones as well as miscellaneous other stuff. However, I have attention awareness off and face id works conveniently enough with my Ray-Bans. In fact face id is mostly more convenient than inconvenient.

However, I decided not to wait for the iphone XI, I wanted my max.

Even on a 2 year cycle, the XI will probably be a boring upgrade: A13 processor, 1 extra GB RAM, IP68 water resistance, better cameras, smaller notch, USB Type C connection.

I am more excited for iOS 13 to see if it’s even worth staying with iOS long-term. If not, I’ll just look to use my phone till it dies or go with the best pure Android device I can get.

Smaller notch and better cameras sound great. And usually Apple has one cool feature that you don’t expect.

iOS 13 needs to bring one thing I am hoping, and that’s Siri to be completely overhauled. Siri does somethings really well, but now that Apple acquired John Giannandrea from Google, I’m hoping those changes will be reflective this year in 2019 with Siri, because I use Siri all the time, and it definitely needs help in certain areas with accuracy and dictation results.

I am the same waiting for the 2019 rumors to start flowing in. I have the X as well and just this year decided to switch to a 2 year upgrade cycle.

I am rooting for iOS 13 to be that huge Renaissance into the OS. It could be a huge aesthetic overhaul like iOS 7 and still provide modern features like split screen apps.

I rather stick with Apple since they’re more reliable than other Android OEMs. However, the current Apple direction is quite disappointing because they keep raising prices, releasing half-hearted products, and not pushing the envelop enough.

What was that one cool feature last year though?

The XS just added more RAM, added faster processor, upped the IP standard rating, slightly improved the camera, improved wireless charging, updated the speaker quality, and improved FaceID ever so slightly.

The X to XS was such a small jump. I don’t even think we see a new form factor design until 2020 or 2021 either. Not saying the current iPhone designs are a problem.
