Apple Refurbs are great and I have purchased several over the years, however there is another disadvantage to consider. Some people don’t get applecare since their CC doubles the warranty on many items. However at least with my CC any refurbished products are excluded From that benefi.
That’s a good point. I haven’t had Mac issues where the extended warranty would be valuable. And frankly, even with things like iPhone, it’s always post-AppleCare warranty for me. To the extent that I just don’t do AppleCare for anything.

If your top priority is getting an awesome laptop at an unbeatable price, go for it. The M1 Air is both the best value for a MacBook ever, and one of the best MacBooks Apple has ever made. The fanless design, performance, and battery life are all 💯

It's the usual story. With current offers, I'm able to get a brand new base MBA M1 for £850 and given the rave reviews, I'm incredibly tempted.

But it feels silly given that the next iteration is probably less than 6 months away? And will see a big redesign, rather than just slight improvements?

Here's what I'm worried about missing out on if I purchase the MBA M1 instead of waiting:

  • Larger screen (a 14" MBA would be great)
  • Magsafe charger (I currently have a MBP 2012, so would like to retain this feature)
  • Possible Wi-Fi 6E (for futureproofing)
  • Possible Bluetooth 5.2 (futureproofing)
  • Improved 1080p webcam (LONG overdue and for futureproofing)
  • Slimmer/lighter model (I want maximum portability. My current MBP 2012 is a heavy beast at 2kg!)
  • Anything else that will allow me not needing to upgrade for another ~10 years!
I'm not so bothered about any upgraded chip, as judging by rumours, it either won't happen or will be a marginal improvement. And MBA M1 seems super powerful as it is for my kind of use.

What's a guy to do? Any considerations I'm missing? Would be great to get people's thoughts.

Thanks in advance - love this forum!
I bought the gold M1 about a week ago, and I love it. If you like white bezels and a white keyboard, then wait for the new model. If not, buy the current MBA. I loathe white bezels, so I would not buy the new one anyway. This one is super fast and has great battery life. It will last me for years.

I really don’t think a brand new redesign of a MBA will be announced at the developer conference :/

When did Apple ever do that kind of launch for a major product?

Given that many of you are saying 8gb is more than enough with the M1, I’m starting to believe that and tempted by the deal on Amazon. I can pay it over 5 months with no interest or credit check using Amazon’s new monthly payment scheme.

I’ll wait for the event first but then might just pick one up.

Yeah I think it's unlikely too. But it's not far away, so mayaswell wait just incase. I would imagine deals will stay available, and may even improve, as it gets closer to the new model being announced.

Several times in fact. With Apple, precedence of product release, does not matter.

Consider buying the M1 MacBook Air now that's if you like the current design and wouldn't want an updated version. Chances are a redesign will come soon

I personally love the current design of the M1 it's very aesthetic

Another vote for waiting. I’m rocking a 2012 MBP and I’m waiting.
As am I, but the wait is getting to be unbearable at this point. I've been burned in the past by a 1st gen Apple product, so I held off on this round, but it's looking like a MBAir redo is in the works, which puts me right back at version 1 of a product. Oh well, hopefully WWDC brings some new info.

Ya my 2012 is definitely showing its age. I have to get something this year for sure.

How can there be anything at WWDC when there’s been zero leaks ahead of the conference?

Usually there’s some final leaks before a big announcement.

Clearly it’s going to be Sept/Oct/Nov when we see anything significant.

Dont know, but there have been plenty of leaks about its redesign, contradicting statements about M1 or M2 in it, then also that it wont come with miniLED, total redesign, multiple colors like with iMac 24 and white bezels etc.
But, for the past weeks/month its been quite quiet, so we might get some fresher leaks, closer to reality in next weeks, dont know.
Perhaps it will be M1 Pro or M2 Mini and not Macbook at all, who knows.
Its all rumors, after all.
I do hope, that they announce new Macbook and with that, retailers drop prices around my part of the world so I can either order new one or the old one in base spec to last me only until OLED Macbooks get released or when ARM finally gains traction among PC laptops and reaches performance levels worthy of Apple's.

Not exactly. There have been rumors surrounding the Mac Pro for a while now. I believe that the new M-Series Mac Pro will be released in WWDC, then (likely) we'll see the M2 refresh in September. Although, to be honest if we see a Mac Pro in WWDC, I'd say an M2 refresh would likely fall in Jan.

I have no regrets buying my MBA M1 a few weeks ago! Well, actually I have one and that's not getting one earlier! It's an amazing laptop and I love everything about it (except the lack of USB-A ports lol, but that was quickly rectified with adapters)

After saying that, I'm personally not too fussed on having the latest and greatest - as long as it runs everything I need it to and it works for me, I'm a happy bunny.

Wife has an Air 8gb, I use the 13" M1 Pro (16g) for work. If you need one I wouldn't hesitate to buy one now, they perform great. I can't image the newer one has a greatly noticeable difference. They're already as snappy as possible for everyday tasks.

As ever, if you need it now, buy it now. Otherwise I would advise you to wait until WWDC next month and see what drops. If there is no Air 2 announcement then you know it will be at least 4 months away which may help you make a decision. I will say that the 2022 MBA sounds like it is going to be a bit divisive in terms of its looks and could well have a higher starting price (my prediction is $1299 with the 13" MB Pro being rebranded as MacBook, loosing the Touchbar and dropping to $999). If you wait and don't like the look or price of the new model then I'm sure excellent deals on the 2020 model will still be around for several months as retailers offload stock of the older model.

Chinese lockdowns, limited capacity, new fabrication tech for the M2 and the yields might not be as high as the M1.
Based on all these, I highly doubt the Air M2 will be launched soon, the Air M1 is probably selling very well; it is cheap and blows away the comparatively priced Windows laptops, there is no need for an Air M2 atm.
I hope I am wrong though, I would love an Air M2 with a better screen (brighter, higher resolution) than the Air M1.

I was ready to buy an Air in Feb, decided to wait as I don't need a new laptop; But Im only waiting for a speed bump. I prefer the current design and I think the new MacBook rumours with the iMac styling look tacky. I think (hope) Apple will introduce it as a MacBook though and keep the M1 Air and see how sales go.

At the moment i would wait for WWDC, there seems to be strong rumours that a new redesigned Air will be announced. It will be great if they do this and add the colours of the 24“ iMac.

I love my silver 24" iMac but no way I would want that white border and white colour keypad on a MacBook, I never ever bought a white iPad either.
