I'm probably not going to buy a MBP M1 anytime soon. So if you need to hold onto Intel versions (where I am), then buy might still be a good option right now. I depend on certain software and Boot Camp a great deal. Switching to M1 would impact that in a huge way.

Returning old ports could also mean reducing thunderbolt ports. I can imagine that even high-end Macbooks Pro will have only 2 thunderbolt ports (instead of 4 now), but with additional magsafe, hdmi or usb 3. They will surely present it as a hearing of customers, but truely it could be just technical limitations or too high Intel licencing fees.

The 16” is certainly looking very long in the tooth, not even a mild spec bump (the high end GPU options excluded) last year. Im very tempted to go down from the 16” to the 14” when it appears depending on what I can get for my 16”.

Thankfully, I bought a Mid'15 MBP and avoided the dongles. I certainly wouldn't buy a current MBP but would consider an M powered MBP when released.
Kinda wish I had a 2015 MBP instead of my late 2013. The 2015 allows the use of aftermarket NVMe SSD upgrades without the sleep/hibernation issues.

I wish they were including cellular modem and Face ID, but I still plan to buy it.
That and a built in SD card reader. I have a camera that uses SD cards, and the transfer rate is much better with a dedicated reader rather than over a USB cord.

Please do not bring back USB-A. I'm so done with them. I've swapped out almost all of the ones I use to type C. I'll happily have a dongle ready when I need to plug in a type A once every eighth leap year.

Magsafe? Ok, as long as I may keep the USB-C charging as it is today. One power bank is all I need, it can charge every single device. Remember how easy it was to top up a Macbook in the field during the Magsafe years? I do not want that in my life again.

Other ports? Yea I'll take it. I rarely need anything else these days, I'm fine with the dongle for my SD-cards, but to be honest, I don't use SD-cards that often either. But I totally understand those who do and I won't mind a SD-slot. I'll be happy with a HDMI port - great for work.

Touchbar? I don't care if it's there or not, but yea if I must choose, I'll go without.

Excited for the new chips though, but I'll see my 2017 15" Pro until the end of it.

I like late March rather then July. Credit card is ready! I need to replace my 15" 2016 MBP. The trashcan is on a whole other level 😂

Hopefully the wait is not long, my 2012 retina is on its last legs. Was gonna stay on intel, but m1 looks promising

I've been waiting for this news since I opted for the mid-2015 15" MBP in 2017 when I needed to upgrade to a bigger screen from an ageing 13" MBP (owned by the company). It seems that the 16" MBP will retain so much of what I like.

Probably be a tad better too ;)

Just hope it will not break the bank, otherwise I might hang on for a year more and look to the sales ...

Really need to update my 2010MBP lol.

Thought I was deciding between a new 13” MBA or MBP, but this 14” could be a game change. Arghhhh.

I don't feel so bad; I'm using my mid-2012 MBP. I'm going to get the new 16" when it launches this year. Getting 9 years out of this MBP - I got my money's worth out of it.

If I had to tote it around I'd get an Air, but it's used at home 99+% of the time.

The battery on my mid-2012 is on its last toes...lost legs a while ago. So long as it's plugged in it works.

There is nothing wrong with Macs being sold now. If the article were speaking of vetted facts with specify of design, hardware and capability, that would be a different matter all together.

Writing a "buyer's guide' predicated on nothin more than rumor, is irresponsible, in my opinion. That kind of reporting doesn't save people money.

This article is not really a buyer's guide. It is clickbait.

well, any buyers guide that is bases solely on what is currently out, isn't great help for the consumer. articles like these can save people from biting their elbows a few months down the line because they bought and "old" macbook just months before apple introduced a shiny "new" one. if people don't care about that and are in the market for a macbook, articles such as these won't influence their decision to buy, so i'm not sure why this upsets you so.

What is the point of the 14" when it most likely be running the same resolution as 13". Also, I don't see the point of a SD card reader. People take pictures with their phones, and they upload to the cloud.

Been waiting since 2018 when my 2015 15" MBP's logic board died.

Replaced it with a Matebook X Pro as I couldn't justify the Apple tax on the same config at 2x the price, but am committed to buying the 14" MBP the day it is available for order.

Or you can buy a new MacBook Pro now and have months of enjoyment using it and then sell it and put the money towards a new model when it comes out. My motto has always been if you need a tool now, buy the best you can afford now. If you can afford to wait, then you don't really need it.

I love a new laptop and I see some great improvements here, but can't take the plunge off the cliff from my 2018 MBP.

Mag safe back is good. They never should have done away with it.

The new Apple silicon is intriguing, but I'm a casual user and getting my MBP over 20% CPU usage according to MenuMeters is almost impossible for me.

I have the touch bar, and never use it. It was a waste. I would make use of the function key row as I remote into a Windows computer when working from home. The key combinations work, but are a pain sometime.

I could take or leave the SD card reader.

I'll keep my current laptop for at least 5 years. Which would push me out to 2023. Unless it breaks, or gets stolen...

All I want an < 2lb Macbook- as wide as a keyboard with no screen bezel - and perf as good as or better than the current M1 macs... I miss the Macbook adorable.

Does anyone know what the status is of running Windows 10 normal Intel edition and programs in a virtual machine on the Apple silicon MacBooks (need this for work)
