No idea... also, Starbucks isn't as terrible as people say. All US brewed coffee is terrible...

Now before you proceed to flame me, here is why: I'm Honduran, we take our coffee much more bolder and stronger than you guys. For us, your coffee is just colored and sugared water.

Don't believe me? Go down to one of the Central American countries try it yourself. Don't go to Mexico for coffee, they are starting to water down theirs as well.

The only good coffee in the US straight out is Kona Coffee, simple.

But i thought that hipsters started trends. Like it or not hipster girls are hot.
Damn right!!! :)
Especially with the bold glasses. ...in fact, I jokingly tell people that's the only reason I married my wife (she wears bold glasses).

Hipsters = ~cool
Hanging out at Starbucks = not so cool
Macs = Awesome
Combine all three =

*shudder* bold glasses.. big fat plastic frame glasses.. nerd glasses? I think they're all pretty revolting. :D And then there's the thing about skinny jeans and beanies (about as bad IMHO).

I'm actually not too sure I'd want to do anything at a Starbucks now that I think about it. The chairs are kinda small and uncomfortable, you'd be sitting there with - likely - a small laptop and limited to your battery life.. at a table with other people. I dunno? I think I'd rather chill out somewhere good for chilling out than a business, but I've already said that one lol.

It kinda annoys me that the only kinda hat you can find in a store in the mall right now is a porkpie hat - particularly the kind that's tilted back -_-

XD

New York, Baby!
I thought I'd try some tortoiseshell glasses for when I go into Williamsburg, but I tried them and suddenly saw why I was bullied relentlessly the last time I really had tortoiseshell glasses!

Ha ha! To each his own..
Like how some dudes are into bleach blond hair and big plastic boobs. Wait, that was in the early 90's. Anyway, not my preference. :p

Yes, that's what people do.

BTW, I take my MacBook, iPhone and iPad to Starbucks. I'm way cooler than everyone else and my penis is way bigger. :D
I make sure to talk loudly on my iPhone, about Apple things, while on Safari, with my SLR visible.

By doing this, I'm superior, and people will know I'm an artist.

But i thought that hipsters started trends.

Nope. They just follow them, and flog it until it dies. ;) Think about it: If it was cool, it would probably be unique, and (preferrably) kind of badass. Hipsters like neither, or they try hard to like something unique, which isn't cool, either. Also, it's no coincidence that they pretty much all dress the same and listen to the same boring indie music. But whatever. I really don't care. The only thing I CAN'T STAND about hipsters is facial hair. If they have facial hair, it looks ridiculous, like they're Amish, or like hardcore Jews or something.

Oh, and today, while I was riding on the tram, I was asked if the down vest I was wearing was cool now? It was either a backhanded compliment, or a well-disguised insult. :p

I don't understand why people hate Mac users who use their Macs at Starbucks? If you own a Mac, and you're a massive nerd, and you want to use internet, you can either tether your MBP to your mobile via Bluetooth, or you go to Starbucks. Any Starbucks.

However, I do think it's strange that people who go to other cafés usually do more relaxing things like reading a book, reading the newspaper, or chatting with a friend. Ever Starbucks is loud like a Food Court at a massive shopping mall, or a high school cafeteria.

Up here in this college town (somewhat anyway, two universities) coffee shops are always filled with college students either studying or hanging out.

From what I see, Macs are just attractive to college students. I'm a freshman and I just got one last month; they're fast, simple to use, don't slow down over time (which can be great if you're trying to get everything in order before or during class) and they have a large number of applications that just help you get stuff done.

Macs at coffee shops were only about 10-20% a few years ago...

From my observations...

Whenever I'm in a coffee shop I make a point of looking around and counting how many mac vs pcs I see.

When I first started doing this about 7 or 8 years ago, I would typically see 80-90% PCs. On a typical day, if there were a dozen total laptops in the coffee shop, 10 or 11 of them would be PCs and 1 or 2 would be Macs.

Over the last 5 years or so I have noticed a steady increase in the percentage of Macs. Yesterday, when at my local coffee shop (the same shop I usually do my count in)......I counted 22 total laptops, and 17 of them were Macs! 17 Macs and only 5 PCs. This is almost the exact opposite from what I found just a few years ago.

firstly the education price is tempting plus free ipod touch in the summer and also it looks less clunky not saying every pc is clunky as well as good battery life and good better wifi card than most pc laptops

I'm only 19 years old so i don't have as many years of experience under my belt as you in terms of observation, however I just finished my first year at the university and I've luckily come upon an awesome 24 hour coffee shop.

In there, from the beginning I had a netbook and didn't really think to look around and see the ration of Macs and PCs, at this point in time I wasn't really interested in Macs. However, after I got mine and a short time before this, I started looking around and noticed that a lot of college kids (myself included now ;) that go to coffee shops in general have Mac computers.

On a "good" day, I see about 14 computers in the shop. It varies between 6 to 10 macs total. Regular Macbooks make up most of them with a few (maybe 3 or so) MBPs. I've seen 2 Airs and mine makes the 2nd blackbook I've seen.

  1. Reliable WiFi

Wrong. Any PC or Mac with a wifi adapter is only as reliable as the driver written for it. Any other problems are either physically related or software conflicts and has nothing to do with the OS.

Pretty much true.

Anyways, its always funny to see solo people on their Macs at the coffee shops just staring at their email not doing anything productive the whole time. I kind of wonder what goes through that persons head. It's not uncommon to see at all.
"I should go sit at a coffee shop alone with my Mac and let people see me"

The people who go in with non-Mac laptops are always doing business work or school work from my observation (Obviously many Mac users are too)

My laptop lasts 6 hours if just doing Word and stuff, but I have never brought it to a coffee shop. I rarely bring it to class either unless I think it benefits me over hand written notes. (Engineering student so it's rare and only used in 2 GE classes so far in my 4 years)

I could certainly be wrong, as I base it on my own experience only. Notebooks from Apple are the only ones that haven't given me a bag of frustrations with arbitrary and unexplainable wifi issues.

I think this is an interesting question as well and its not totally a social/image thing because I travel a lot for work and I notice it in airports too. I look around at people with laptops out and the ratio of Macs to Windows machines is not in line with their market share. I often see 2-3x the number of macs out.
