That video looks good, my cpu is 2.0ghz so I won't expect the exact same performance but I think I will be satisfied with what I can get. Modern Warfare 2 ran on medium/high setting at 1024x768 with about 40fps according to FRAPS.

Not using Boot Camp anymore since I own a decent gaming PC and Steam on coming to Mac soon. But with Steam you have to have an internet connection so I wanted some good games for single player when I have no internet. So I plan on getting CoD4 and Bioshock (ran the demo fin on medium ay 1024x768). Reinstalled Rise of Nations Gold, Age of Empires 2, and Warcraft 3 Battlechest so far.

I'm glad I can now use my MacBook for gaming without havng to rebooting when I cant use my gaming PC :D

What?! Hello. It's 2010

To everyone crying about using a CD/DVD, there's an alternative. Buy a digital copy from DIgital River. That's what I did. I got my copy two days before the release of the game. Plus it was cheaper.

this isn't a Cider port right? I know EA used Cider to port both Spore and Battlefield 2142. Spore runs ok on medium/high at 1280x800, but Battlefield 2142 runs terribly at any setting. I don't want to spend $50 on something that won't run decently at medium settings.

Note - this *IS* a Cider port. I thought the performance was pretty good - more like Dragon Age in terms of comparison to PC version than the terrible performance from NWN2 or Battlefirld 2142.

I haven't play the Mac version of Dragon Age but when running the PC version in Boot Camp it ran terrbily but that was expected since my MacBook is using the 9400m.

So what you're saying is that Cider ports have been improved since they were originally introduced?

Sorry to be a pain...

Hello!

I'm a bit new to the apple world, and I bought a Mac book about 6 months ago primarily for work/art/music, but I've always been a gamer at heart and I was wondering if anyone thinks this COD4 version would run (Playable on low settings) on my specs?

Any other suggestions for games that would run on my low end machine would be much appreciated, or links to places where I could find out.

Particularly interested in stratagy/action games

Thanks in advance:)

Technically, the HD3000 is not supported for COD4, but you should be fine with those specs on your MBP. Keep in mind the HD3000 isn't exactly a robust graphics option, so you may experience some slowdown during heavy fire fights, but for the most part you should be ok with the settings turned down.

For suggestions on games that run well on lower specs, LIMBO is always a favorite in our offices and it runs great on low spec machines. For your strategy fix, try Empire Total War or Civilization IV. Also, don't forget to try out some of the really good older titles like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. That said, most AAA games will run on the HD3000, its just a matter of how well.

I used to play it on 2010 version. It wasn't very fast, but definitely playable in multiplayer with lowered settings.

I have the same MBP as you and COD4 plays fine on the default lower settings. I've been able to run COD4 and Screenflow at the same time without issues.

And just a side note, bumping up your RAM to 8GB causes your graphics to show "512mb" in the system info. Whether it actually improves your graphics capability is unknown to me, but it changes in the info.
