I already am planning to upgrade my 12.9 Pro to have a Cellular model again, but I'm holding for the M2 lest Apple screws me over twice a la A12Z not getting most of the upcoming iPadOS 16 features on a 2-year old chip.

Side Note:
The A12Z chip is only 2 years old. It came out in 2020. The A12X chip came out in 2018. They are not the exact same chip, not matter how many people claim otherwise.

Yes but the A12Z Is based directly off the 4 generations old A12. The single core and neural engine is the same as the standard A12 chip. It’s still powerful for sure, but based on 4 year old architecture.

Can you really not tell OP is a troll?
Well, I also like the feature. So no - I can’t tell. They stated that they like the feature. How is that trolling? Do you know what an internet troll is?

I suppose they could be doing a kind of reverse troll whereby they’re being sarcastic. In that case I’m duped. But sarcasm doesn’t work in a written form so in that case the joke is most likely on them.

Outside of this “paradigm shift” that’s apparently life changing for OP, they also claim in other posts nonsense such as the notch on the MacBook Pro allows them to be more productive, and that the new dual usb-c charger Apple is selling will allow them to “explore new possibilities to improve my overall productivity.”

It is indeed sarcasm lol.

I don’t have the time nor the motivation of you and others that scour other posters posting history. Good luck to you though!

I am selling my 2020 iPad Pro (12.9in) now and buying an M2 MBA when they are made available. If the M1 MBA was available in Spring 2020, I would've bought the MBA rather than the iPad Pro. Going to correct course now and go back to my personal computing device being a macOS device rather than iPadOS.

Yeah actually they are….with one extra graphics core enabled on the A12Z. Apple admitted as much

I have a 4th gen 12.9 inch iPad Pro 2020 (with the A12z chip) that I bought used three months ago. After seeing the op's past posts as ericwn suggested, I'm guessing the op chose this topic name because he/she is an attention grabbing Apple shill. Perhaps the op is an Apple stock owner, trying to pump up sales of the company's products?

I tried Stage Manager on my Mac and I love it. As much as I'd like to have it on my 2018 iPad Pro, its not a big deal for me that it doesn't have it. My iPad is still more than good enough for what I do on it, so it'll be years until I buy a new one.

Apple's sale team has scooped to posting on forums 😲 The end is surely nigh for Apple now! 🤪

Sound like we have the same setup. I initially wanted Apple to make the M1 iMac a target display for my iPad Pro as well. Not because it's necessary but because it would be cool to have the option in the future. Luckily, with our iMac's we can still use Stage Manager (on Mac OS) and then use Sidecar to make iPad a secondary display. So it'll be a very similar setup and makes upgrading my iPad feel very unnecessary.

Initially, I was really wowed by Stage Manager at WWDC, but since then, the excitement has worn off for me. I'm sure it will be great OP, but paradigm shift seems a little excessive. We're talking about an operating system update here. One feature is not enough for me to part with my hard-earned money and upgrade my "outdated" A12Z iPad Pro.

I feel the conversation has been really skewed by FOMO. The 2018 and 2020 iPad Pros are still blazing fast and excellent devices. The apps you'll be using on your M1/M2 iPad Pros will run the exact same on the 2018/2020 Pros in this moment in time. As someone who really wanted external monitor support for their iPad, I keep asking "is it really worth upgrading for one little feature?" and my answer is an astounding no.
I think “‘resounding” is what you meant…lol

I haven’t looked at the OPs posting history and even I can tell they’re trolling. They titled this specifically to draw in people with devices that aren’t getting Stage Manager, because some people are obviously pissed that their fairly recent device isn’t getting basic window management. It’s the equivalent of posting a thread titled “to all iPhone owners” with the body “iPhonez suck you should get android lololollol!!1!”

I understand the title might draw attention. But that doesn’t necessarily indicate they are trolling… I could be wrong. But to imply that it’s the same as “iPhone suck you should get an Android,” now… that’s incorrect.

The OP never mentioned A12 iPad Pros are terrible… but that Stage Manager is better than the old way of multitasking for which I don’t see how that’s trolling. And I get it that 2018/2020 iPad Pro users are upset with Apple decision to withhold a feature, but if people don’t agree with OP opinion people cannot accept Apple’s decision… then as @blkjedi954 mention “exit on your left.”

We all want to share our opinions, but I rather have a respectful debate whether or not we disagree with each other.

I mean, if they're so happy with it, why try engage specifically with people who can't use it? Seems disingenuous.

Perhaps so. Tbh, I think they would get the same responses more or less. For example, changing the title to “All M1 iPad users” and keeping the body only removing “you’ll upgrade to M1.”
Stage Manager is really awesome.

I'd never go back to the old way of multitasking.

Honestly once you experience this paradigm shift in truly frictionless mobile computing

I believe it would still grab attention to non-M1 iPad Pro users or general iPad users.

Agreed. I am, though, already eagerly looking forward to upgrading my iPad mini 6 whenever an M-series option becomes available, and then plugging that into an external display / keyboard / trackpad setup. It would be a great setup for my at-home use, where computing tasks are basically finance apps, music, and light photo editing. Only carrying a Mini to/from work, but still be able to do some more serious things? I’ll take that future.

I’d argue something like “I love stage manager” or "calling all M1 iPad Pro users” might be a better way to talk to other people who like stage manager, while not tricking people who are annoyed into opening a thread that has nothing to do with them or their device, but that’s just me.

We’ll, I’ve finally gotten a good handle on multitasking under iOS 15 with my 2017 iPad Pro and although I’ll never say never, I’m just not that jealous of Stage Manager right now. Maybe once I get a chance to use iOS 16 on an M1 I’ll change my mind, but I have zero FOMO right now and all that money left in my pocket. Good luck to you, glad you like it that much.
