seems both the installation lists are a bit out of date.
ffmpeg now installed and running a test conversion to see how it goes.

dunno if it's the latest beta version of Subler at fault, but Subler keeps crashing when saving the new version.

this is what it looks like when i drag the MKV in after it has been run thru mkvdts2ac3

i select the video track and the AC3 track (setting it to pass-thru) and deselect all the others. i then drag the original MKV file in and select the DTS track and set it to AAC stereo.

I hit save, and Subler goes thru the saving process and then bombs out.

No idea other then checking to ensure that 64 Bit chunk offset is checked when saving. I think Subler uses Perian to decode the AC3 to AAC so you might want to double check your on the latest version of Perian.

Other then that I have no idea - sorry. I don't do 1080P but 720P files and this workflow does fine for me. You could also try and play your file in quicktime/vlc player to make sure the conversion worked correctly and select the AC3 track.

i didn't have any of the 64-bit options enabled during the save.
should they be?

64 bits chunk offset
64 bits times

For files over 4gb 64 Bit chunk offset needs to be selected when using either subler - I think handbreak now does this by default.

Successfully used mp4tools to recode the dts-ma to AC3 5.1 and create a AAC stereo track. I then used Subler to remux the video track from the original mkv file with the 2 audio tracks from the m4v file. This resulted in an m4v file with:

Track 1: video h.264 (uncompressed)
Track 2: AAC stereo audio
Track 3: AC3 5.1 audio

Plays fine.

Looks like the problem is with mp4tools is with the video track. So wouldn't this work:
1) create an mp4 with a video track, dts-ma converted to AC3 5.1 and a AAC stereo track using mp4tools
2) open the original mkv in Subler
3) delete all tracks except the video track
3) add only the 2 audio tracks (AC3 5.1 and AAC stereo) from the mp4
4) save

I have tried this method, but it results in a m4v file with 2 audio track, but no video. I do exactly as you say, create a m4v with a 5.1 and stereo track with MP4Tools, then take the original MKV and open it up in Subler but only add the video track and add the audio from the MP4Tools M4V file. I am not sure why this happens. You would think it would work great!

Do you "open" it or "add" it? I do this:
1) File>new
2)Then click the '+"
3) Select the file. It should open and present the various track selections
4) unselelect everything but the video track
5) "Add"

I repeat steps 2-5 for the video tracks.

Open and New can give you different results.

Do all the tracks need to be checked with the check in the box (video track and the 2 audio tracks)?

No, only the video track and 1st audio track (AAC) need check marks. But that doesn't have anything to do with the output file, only what the aTV sees as the default tracks. In that window you should see:
video track
audio track AAC
audio track AC3
and what ever other track you have added (subtitle, chapter, etc)
If you see all of those then do a save as and you should get an m4v file that has a video track.

Supper break for a while. Let me know what happens.

I have a 184MB m4V file as an output with 2 audio tracks and no video.

Here is what Subler looks like after the remux:

It's weird that the video file shows zeros for the time...

Remuxing the MKV by itself provides a file with video and stereo audio. I don't know whats going on.

One thing I noticed that I had not experienced before while using Subler is that the save progress bar got about half way through, then it started over and went through a second save process. Make sure that when you are saving, you let it complete.

Edit: do you by any chance have Media Info that you could analyze the output file?

I am not sure. I looked at media information in vlc and that's how I found that there were two streams of audio in the file.

I just looked at the my file info from VLC. It also shows only 2 audio streams but the video plays normally. Have you tried just seeing if the video plays with VLC?

I need to correct that. It shows 3 streams with video being stream 0.

That is very strange you are getting all zero's for the video after you remux. Is the file over 4GB. On the save window are you checking 64 bit offset if the file size is over 4GB?

That box is checked, the video is a straight blu ray rip. it's 8 gb. The mkv of the video works great in vlc as well.

You could try and add the video file from an m4v file that was successfully produce by Subler, then add the AAC and AC3 audio tracks from the mp4tools file.

Normally, you shouldn't have to jump through these hoops. But I suspect there is something funky about the original mkv video track that's causing the problems as mp4tools is very reliable and Subler is very reliable. It all seems to point back to a problem with the original video track that Subler seems to be able to get through if it's looking at the file as a whole.

You could also try taking a working file produced by subler and just add the AAC and AC3 tracks without removing the other audio tracks. If that is playable, take it back into Subler through the New/Add process and remove the unwanted tracks. Then see if it still plays.

Will be looking forward tomorrow to see where this whole thing stands. It is really odd.

I'll try that. I'm using straight rips from Blu Rays created with MakeMKV. No conversions or anything. It works with stereo sound but not 5.1. I think the solution is close though, I will keep trying things and keep the thread updated.

5.1 and 2-Ch Audio Tracks appear as "English" on ATV

I find it annoying, that the 5.1 and 2-Ch audio tracks both appear as "English" on ATV. Does anyone know of a way for each track to say "English (Surround)" and "English (Stereo)" instead?

Unfortunately it's nothing that can be changed that I know of.

Hi everyone new here!

Well basically using subler to try and convert a 3gig DVD backup for itunes/ATV2.
I read the following thread so I know considering the MKV has only the one AC3 5.1 soundtrack that i need to create another 2 channel AAC to succeed.
I am confused as how to add the same AC3 track again in the same file for conversion though? I added them both sets of files to the convert Que but it gives me the RED STOP SIGN?!

I would also like to add that with or without adding the second AC3 track i get the RED STOP SIGN ?! upon hitting the convert button.

I have used subler on many rips in the past (for tagging) with success but this DVD having the only 1 audio track is giving me an issue. Also i never downloaded Perien so could that be the issue as well?

Any info would be swell . Thanks JIM

Looks to me like your file is mpeg2 and therefore cannot be put in a mp4 container, so that's why you get the red stop sign.
