Some of the essential applications that I or people around me use that are not on the Mac App Store:
  • Zoom
  • Handbrake
  • Chrome
  • Firefox
  • VMware
  • VLC
  • IINA
  • Onyx
  • TinkerTool
  • AlDente
  • SwitchResX
  • Wireshark
  • Minecraft
  • Webex
  • Steam and its games
  • Homebrew and its packages

I just counted. I have 28 apps from outside the app store, 10 from within the app store, plus 2 that are available both in and out of the app store, but I purchased them from outside.

The bottom line is I don't install anything from anyone that I haven't researched and have a level of trust in. There are plenty of apps within the app store I would't install, Apples verification services or not.

Why should I trust a third-party source? Am I supposed to assume that Apple is lying?
I had an app on the AppStore.

It is now no longer available to download. Users who have it installed can keep it. But it cannot be downloaded again.

It is pulled from the store as I allowed my developer account to lapse.

So yes, it cannot be downloaded by users who had it prior to my account expiring.

I’ll have to look into that.
