Hi fellow Canadians. I hadn't seen an official thread for us folks up north so i thought i'd make one. Last year was a mess with not much stock available to Canadians through the online purchase method, but the reserve and pickup seemed to work well. This year with Apple shipping an insane number of iPhones and the fact that they've had ample time for production, there shouldn't be the same shortage as last year.

So what phone are you getting? How will you order? I know for me i'll be using the app store application on 7+ on LTE and the app store application on my ipad pro on WiFi. Last year i got a bit screwed as i was on wifi and couldn't connect to the apple store after 3am, as soon as i switched off wifi and went on LTE the store popped up. I'll be choosing the in-store pickup method (i find it a bit anti-climactic getting the phone shipped to home or office, i like going to the Apple store and seeing the buzz, i also want to see the phones in person on day 1 as i wont be opening/using my phone until i get the case i need.

I'll be getting the XS Plus in Gold, probably 64GB. When I had my X 64GB i still had something like 45GB left.
 
iPhone XS+ 256G in black/space grey... I don't think the gold will ever be my thing... now a black and copper mix would be my ultimate choice... and yes, I'll use the app on my phone and / or iPad...

i've seen different variations of what the gold is supposed to look like. If it's the pinkish gold i've seen examples of, I'll actually be going with space grey as well. But if its the gold version that Apple was testing last time, i'll stick with the gold as i think a gold/black combo would look really good especially with the screen off or a black wallpaper. I'm also getting a Lucrin vegetable tanned navy blue case that will match the black/gold perfectly.

Yeah, it's the pinkish gold that I can't stand...

And I always wrap my iPhone's in Urban Armor Gear cases...

There's no way they'll call it the Max lol. I'm thinking what they'll do is iPhone Xs, with the larger being the iPhone Xs 6.5 (just like the ipad pro's). I think they should call the LCD iPhone the "iPhone" and the OLED iphones the iPhone Pro
 
I'm done with Apple if the XS Max/Plus/Giant whatever the flying f they wanna call it is more than $1319 (the price of the current X).

I think I’m gonna go for the XS Plus 64GB in space grey. I still have 30GB of space left on my X (everything is in the cloud). I will try and reserve in store as I want to do a carrier upgrade.

Last year I lucked out and got the 64GB X in space grey on launch day (I bought it outright and had it shipped to my work). But for $1700 with AC+ and tax, I can’t justify spending that much money again this year.

That’s unfortunate. Maybe the 6.1” LCD model will hold me over. I have the money to buy any of the phones but no way am I spending nearly $2000 with Apple care

Sheeeeeeeit... $2000 all in with Apple Care eh?

Better than signing a contract with a carrier I suppose...

I didn't even factor the drop in currency, it absolutely won't be $1,319 then. With rumours that the XS+ is $999 USD for 64gb, I think your estimate of something like $1,439.00 + tax is probably realistic. They might even raise the price of Apple care for the XS+ from $249 to something like $279. Assuming $1,439.00+$279.00 x 13% HST = $1,941.34.

I'm still going to get it, but definitely won't even consider getting a higher storage level. I just can't pay more than $2,000 for a phone, I won't do it.
 
But if the difference between 64g and 256g is only $100? Pretty much have to spend the extra bill at that point...

It's going to depend on if i keep the phone for more than a year. If I plan to keep it for 2 years or more, i think 256GB is the smart move.
 
Xs 6.5" for around 1300$ CDN.

They're discounting the X on contracts by huge amounts these days, there's space for lower prices.

Also, they screwed us with the exchange rate last year, they can be more conservative this year. (999$ US at 0.83 = 1203$, not 1319$ CDN)

And finally, the Samsung Note 9 costs 1299$ in Canada. :D

I think in the $1,319 price they factor in duty charges and other international fees associated with selling and currency conversion. I also think they used that price in anticipation that over the course of a year, the Canadian dollar would get weaker vs. the greenback and so they built in some protection.

Unfortunately, I see them doing the same thing this year, as with NAFTA talks, trade uncertainty, and whats going on with oil, you can foresee the Canadian dollar getting even weaker; something Apple is well aware of. I wouldn't be surprised at something starting around max $1,499.

I set aside $1,800 for the Xs Max 64GB with AppleCare+, but with the fact that the price will be a bit higher than last year due to currency factors, as well as the fact that i may want the 256GB, this is getting expensive.

Any more info on pricing for Canada? For some reason i don't think the demand here will be as strong as it was last year.
 
I've seen nothing but based on what prices were last year and where the dollar was one can only assume the prices will all go up at least 5% (I would think closer to 7%). But that's just a guess.
 
I think I’ll be sitting this year out, for the first time ever really. Have some funds saved up but more likely will be using them toward upgrading my watch and iPad Pro this fall.

It’s unfortunate where iPhone prices have ended up in Canada. I remember my 64GB X last year was ~$1500 CAD including HST. I wish we had the iPhone Upgrade Program here to make it easier to upgrade every year and just have a monthly iPhone budget to cover the cost.

I've budgeted $2K for the XS Max 64GB w/AC+, if the 256 comes in at $2,100 or so ill probably get that; i'm quite sure i'm keeping this phone for 2 years.

I'll definitely be sitting out next year unless there is some monumental feature that i must have. The only reason I'm upgrading this year is strictly the screen real estate the XS Max provides, i was fine with everything else the X had to offer. Moving forward though, without an upgrade program it's getting too expensive to upgrade yearly. Most people take too much of a hit on their old device, i got lucky and sold my phone for 80% value, but i had to sell it in August to get that value. Now i have to use an older device in between getting a new one (although i have no complaints using a 7+, the only thing is how slippery it is and the OLED screen definitely spoiled me, cant go back to LCD). I can afford to upgrade yearly anyways even at these prices, but at a certain point it's literally like throwing money down the toilet.

I hear you. In the past I always sold my iPhone just week or so before. And it used to be within a few hundred dollars of the new phone's cost. With these phones hitting $1500-2000 it's going to be challenging to keep doing that.

I know though once they're in stores, I'm going to have a hard time resisting that larger OLED screen.

And yeah - I had that exact response the other day when using my wife's 7 Plus! Couldn't believe how slippery it felt compared to a glass back.
