Poor Apple. I have never seen so many bitchy whiney threads about such a great product. For ___'s sake, focus on something you like.

The Glossy screen is soo much brighter, and easier to see than the current iBook screens.

I really don't what you are talking about?!?!?
Too reflective? Jeeezzzzzz... get a life man. Take a chance for once, if Apple is selling the glossy screen then there is a good reason that it is BETTER than the previous models.

If someone can get me strong evidence that apple has made changes to the glossy screen that makes it better then all the ones ive seen on dells/hp/etc

How are they going to make a non-glossy glossy screen?

Finally someone agrees with me on the finger print issue, i mean i use my laptop at school its gets dirty very very easy.

Also i use my laptop in fluorescent tubing, and with the sun right behind my back.

Your not supposed to touch LCD's anyway, and as Hector said, he has to tell people to not touch it.

Obviously, sadly for you, the only lights you have in any of your environments are fluorescent, and your surrounded by sunglight all the time (Lucky you, I say!) I don't know how you could use a screen of any kind, all day, with sunlight behind you and flu. lights. Everything you see must be white-glared. I can't see my LCD in the Kitchen or Bedroom if its sunny, and its a standard LCD TV - no gloss. The same with my iMac screen. Actually, in direct sunlight, its unusable on light backgrounds.

That must mean the MacBook isn't for you.

We're not here to convince you, people are here to give statements and personal views of their experiences with products, and help to out where they can. You have been provided with a mass of information, and statements from people actually using MacBooks, in the conditions you require, at the time of typing. If that isn't good enough for you - then either stump up the extra bucks for a MBP, go with another company, or use a pen and paper.

And lastly, if finger marks on a screen are going to piss you off, thats not Apples fault - its yours. Stop being so grubby.

Its a glossy surface, meaning it is going to reflect somewhat, like the surface of a black iPod.

You have accounts from me a MacBook works fine indoors, as well as from others, and accounts from other people saying it works well outside. Some have even said its a better screen.

Stop trying to put Apples 'bad' decision down to finger marks please - be more cautious.

Theres a PC laptop knocking around my house I use time to time that has a glossy screen which, I'm sorry to say, has put me right off buying a MacBook. If they gave the option of a matt screen then it would be great. Maybe they will in future.

Although saying that, those glossy screens are far from unusable. The colours appear a lot more vivid over normal screens. It might just be a matter of getting used to ignoring the reflection - which will only come with persistent use.

However the bottom line is it has put me off, at least for now. But Apple have done me a back-handed favour there - it means I'll be keeping my iBook and saving a load of money.

So its all good. :D

I have to say...your quite annoying.

No body likes a glossy screen. If you looked deep down, you would find you hate them too.

Note* Just because Apple chose to give the MacBook a glossy screen doesn't mean thats whats best. Everyone makes mistakes. No one will blame them if they own up to there mishap and give us the option to purchase a MacBook with a matte screen.

It's interesting that almost all of the complainers here don't actually own a MacBook, but rather are basing their experience on standing in front of one at an Apple Store.

It is also interesting that almost every single buyer of a MacBook here has found, in using the machine to actually do something, that the screen is fantastic.

FWIW, my understanding is that the guy who uses it for Photoshop all the time is correct, that the colours are "truer" on a non-glossy. At least that is what Apple is saying. Apart from that, however, the screen is incredible, and it is actually much better in the sunshine than my non-glossy Sony X-Black laptop.

People who haven't worked with these machines might express their opinions with a bit of restraint as they lack any significant experience with the MacBook.

Of course, they can also just go on creating these stupid threads that put the wrong ideas in people's heads.

Look, I am usually very tolerant of others' opinions, but let me say it here for anybody thinking about getting a MacBook:

People who don't own MacBooks and yet slam them here for their unusable glossy screens and unbearable noise are just plain wrong.

With the old dual monitors going on here I wouldn't mind 1 matte, 1 glossy. I can see benefits in the both, I'd also like both :p

glossy for EyeTV, DVD and displaying work,
matte for developing and creating.

My bedroom remains dark most of the time anyways. so I wouldn't see my reflection as much. don't blame me! blame the neighbours with telescopes ;)

FYI netdog,

The apple store i go to is an authorized apple retailer. therefore, they are able to create a space with optimal lighting.(not a single overhead light, no windows) its pretty dark with soft lighting filling the room. theres no concentrated light. the also have each computer setup at their own individual desks with chairs to simulate a real life working situation.

i was still able to see light reflections and my face.

So...not everyone here is complaining because they have only seen it under rows of flourecent(i think thats how u spell that) lighting.

Sorry, but I think this is rubbish and I have been using mine every day for two weeks in all sorts of condition -- at school, at home and outside. Under these conditions, with the brightness up to a reasonable level, I have NEVER seen my own reflection. Not once. Sorry if I dismiss your experience at the shop, but I do.

I wonder why we haven't been hearing this complaint with any frequency from MacBook owners, as we heard about the problems with initial MBPs all the time from MBP owners. Strange that.

I was told before I ordered my MBP glossy screen that if I was into heavy photography, don't get the glossy screen, because the colors are not a trur representation.

Ever hear of color calibration? After you calibrate the display properly the glossy will outmatch any matte screen in true color reproduction.

I have to say - your a prick!

Don't start slating me because I express an opinion.

I have evidence to back up my opinion, that, the glossy screen isn't as bad as arrogant little nobodies like you say it is.

You have posted nothing to this post worth reading, its your word - insisting your right, and that glossy screens are bad. Like the point you made with Apple, just because they chose something doesn't make it right or better, and just because you say I'm annoying - doesn't make it so.

I made many statements to ensure the original poster of this forum doesn't loose out on a brilliant laptop, because stupid little idiots like yourself spend their time on the internet slating machines.

Also, don't speak on my behalf ("If you looked deep down, you would find you hate them too") - unlike you, I am opinionated, however I have evidence and personal experience to back it up. You have, what? A trip to your local store? How dare I challenge for wide range of MacBook knowledge! Thank you, I like the glossy screen.

Buy a MacBook, use it, then comment - until then, bugger off.

My daughter really wanted a BlacBook for college, and I was against it because (a) it's $150 more than the white one and (b) I was concerned that the glossy screen would be a problem.
We went to the Apple Store and checked them out, white and black MB side by side, glossy and matte screens side by side. The screen is gorgeous. I have no problem with it at all. And yes, we got her the BlacBook. She's going to have the computer for at least 3-4 years, she might as well have the one she likes to look at best.

I do. And check the first page - there are at least 3/4 people there supporting them, aswell as 2 people on this page, other than myself.

Save up the extra bucks for a MBP if the MB doesn't suit your needs. I can't see Apple changing something to suit the minority - although if you read my original post, I am in support of making it a BTO option.

EDIT: THATS NOW 4 ON THIS PAGE!

I think the glossy looks great. The reflections I see in a glossy I also see in a matte except the matte blurs it. You have to focus on whats on the screen and not the reflection.

And I'm sure apple will offer both screen choices for the MB in the near future.

That would be a brilliant idea, like I originally said.

Personally, I can't see why they don't already. But I, like yourself, can live with the glossy screen, and the pro's it brings.

Im not opinionated? I said I dont like them, you say you do. Therefore, im as opinionated as you. Some ppl are naturally attracted to shiny things, like you. I however look a little deeper then that. I like a quality computer that doesnt look tacky. I thought switching from PC to Mac would give me that, although it certainly doesnt seem that way.

I dont feel that being able to pay your bills and do your hair at the same is a great feature in a computer.

Again, what is it with you telling people what they think, and what they like?

I don't need you to tell me. I like the glossy screens. I have a life - I don't obsess over what cover is on my laptop screen, unlike some.

You may be opinionated, but your opinions are not backed up with anything, your oh-so-important opinion - by the way, incase your little brain didn't detect, that was sarcasm, and to me, your opinion is not important, nor is it backed up with any evidence whatsoever.

I am attracted to a fairly-priced Mac, with the latest features, in a neat, small package. From the statements you have made, I know a lot more about computer-related than yourself, stick to the real estate, mate.

Your a switcher to? Thats funny, I thought a parasite like you would be better suited to the virus-ridden WinDoze world.

hmm lived with Sony VAIOs for several years, and they were the first to start offering the x-black screens. They can be a pain in the butt but generally under normal lighting the increase in contrast and colour vibrance is worth it, especially for the kind of stuff Macbook is presumably aimed at... photos movies etc.

I agree it's 50/50. For example I used to have a multiple x-black monitor PC setup at home, but I got rid of it for matt Sony screens because I had to have my monitors so that my back was towards the window. However I've not really noticed any major dramas by having the glossy screens as far as the laptops are concerned. I'd say suck it and see.
