Yes, all of the 3 contacts I selected are now finally on my Recovery List as active. The problem was all had to be on iOS 15 and also they received notices that all of their Devices had to be on iOS 15 as well. One they all did that it went through.any one make any kind of headway on this? I reported it as a beta issue via the support app, but im not sure this is a beta issue and i cant believe there aren’t more people having the issue.
that’s good… i guess it‘s something specific to me then. That is weird. Are you sure all your/their devices are on iOS 15? I had an old Apple Watch series 1 laying around that can't be updated to iOS15 that I had to remove from my account in order to proceed. I also had an old iPod touch that I forgot about and once I updated that it was a go!that’s good… i guess it‘s something specific to me then. hmm… super weird. I still cant add any of my family members.
I am still not able to even access the „contact“ screen.any one make any kind of headway on this? I reported it as a beta issue via the support app, but im not sure this is a beta issue and i cant believe there aren’t more people having the issue.
I've checked and double checked, everything is up to date. I've tried from my phone, my MacBook, from both my iPads... I get the same error every time. AND, I know my wife and kids devices are set up exactly the same as mine, I've set all of them up for them. I've held each of theirs next to mine to verify setting and options, all the same as mine... they were able to add each other and me, but I cant add anyone... its gotta be something with my account I guess. That is weird. I know the feeling well. Even keeps me up at night when I can’t figure it out.I've checked and double checked, everything is up to date. I've tried from my phone, my MacBook, from both my iPads... this is worst problem to have where its only a few people or just you that feels has the issue. I've gone down my list of devices to verify they are all up to date from multiple spots... It really really bothering me... just the mystery of it
That’s what I did and Apple care support send the problem description to its software engineers. The more people call with this problem the more aware they become.I know the feeling well. Even keeps me up at night when I can’t figure it out.
You have rebooted all the devices just in case, right? iOS 15 is rather buggy and possibly you will have to wait until 15.1 is released either that or (gasp) call Apple support.
15.1 on every device and every Mac of mine is on Monterey.
Not matter where I try, after FaceID/Entering my PW the screen for adding a recovery contact goes back to the former screen..
Same thing here. All devices up to date. And, interestingly, my wife (who I want to select) WAS able to see/select me as her recovery contact.15.1 on every device and every Mac of mine is on Monterey.

exactly the same behaviour. my mother, my wife, friends. all could add me as their recovery contact.Same thing here. All devices up to date. And, interestingly, my wife (who I want to select) WAS able to see/select me as her recovery contact.
But for me, the 'Add' screen silently fails back to the previous screen every. single. time. INFURIATING.
I still haven’t….every update I hope something’s changed, but so far no recovery contact for meI forgot to add a recovery contact when 15 came out - now that I try to - same error as reported here. It did shown an "original iPad" that was not current - I had already wiped it - so, I removed it from my AppleID. It doesn't show any offending devices now.
Now when I try adding a contact it recognizes me with Face ID for a second and drops back to the prior screen.
Has anyone resolved this??

I'll try it ASAPThis same issue was affecting my wife’s iPhone. I could not get past the add contact screen. macOS, iOS and iPad. Looking at the console on macOS I noticed a curious message that the password was bad. I noticed my wife’s password which has existed since 2011 no longer met Apple’s password requirements. I changed her password to meet the new requirements and this resolved the problem and I could add a recovery contact. Maybe this will work for some of you.
I have some issues with the old ios version but updating to the new version solves this problem.LovattWhen I try and add a recovery contact it fails and goes back to the previous screen on both iOS and iPadOS 15. Anyanyone else got the same problem?
I get "Crashing on exception: Invalid parameter not satisfying: custodianID"so.....
here's the final message I got in the console.
Result of remote custodian initiation call: (null). Error: Error Domain=AKAuthenticationError Code=-7010 "You can only add five recovery contacts to your account." UserInfo={ec=-27412, NSLocalizedDescription=You can only add five recovery contacts to your account.}
the thing is, It still shows an error when I try to add anyone and I have no recovery contacts listed successfully. But I gather it thinks I have five contacts set??????? what the heck is going on???
I can confirm no contacts are set up online under iCloud.com

Recovery Contacts Not Set Up
Recovery contacts can’t access your data, but can help you get it back. When you need help, call or ask your recovery contact in person to provide a code from their device to help you recover your account.
