I apologise for the tripple post. I just finished a call with senior advisor support. we made a log of my phone and Mac, recorded the issue and the apple employee send it all to software engineers.

I'll get a call next Wednesday with results.
Let us know how it goes... If it comes up organically, you may let them know of my different error code, it may help them figure out what's going on with us few that seem to be having the issue. It's really a weird bug this one.

already told them during the call about other error messages and pointed them towards this thread :D!

Just adding to this thread to say I'm experiencing the same issue -- when adding a recovery contact, I get to authenticate via Face ID (phone) or Touch ID (Mac) and then nothing happens. Everything is fully up to date.

I can add my wife to account recovery, but for some reason she cant add me. It just says request sent, and when I click on the link on her phone, nothing happens. the link is dead, for some reason. so annoying.

EDIT:
Well of course, now that I posted about it, it works. I just restarted her phone for the nth time, and for some reason this time it did the trick. So weird.

nope, I'm still unable to do anything with it. I keep checking the thread to see if anyone has had luck as well.

Man this is crazy

I made sure all my devices showing up in iCloud are updated to the latest respective OS (they all were), but still no luck

There's got to be some silly bug that's causing this headache :-(

Apple told me that people with this problem should contact them (I did it via Chat) and explain it. then ask for 2nd level support so they can get a log of the error with you and send it to the software engineering team.
they don’t read macrumors and since it is not a wide spread issue…the more people that contact them, the better

Just randomly checked this morning and it worked! I hadn't had a chance to get Apple support involved or anything, so perhaps they finally fixed whatever was going on on their end

Give it a shot and reply back to the thread, good luck

Ugh, sorry to hear that, was really hoping that they had finally fixed this particular issue for everyone

Sorry to bring this back from the dead... but I think you were the closest hope for me to finding out what is happening with the few of us since apple was directly looking into your case.

did anything ever happen with it? did they resolve the issue for you? I am still in the same condition, unable to add a recovery contact.

Not for me personally, but a software update to the OS fixed it months ago. I just had to reboot all devices and try again. I cant remember if i logged in and out of icloud too, but it would be smart to try that too. it worked eventually, though after quite a few tries. it wasnt a smooth exoerience and felt very buggy and staggered, as I could add my spouse as my contact on my mac, but she couldn’t add me for some reason. i had to find a golden-set-of-steps-like pattern for it to work. it was a mess, i remember, but eventually after several tries it somehow worked, and i haven’t touched it since. Man I'm so tired of finding workarounds for Apple's own bugs in their own software, and just receiving silence from them in return.

sorry i cant provide a step by step guide how to fix it. if you have latest monterey and iOS it should work.

Gosh I totally forgot to answer in here.
Yeah apple fixed it, sadly they never told me what the culprit was ? they wanted to call me about it but never did. Funny that my only negative memory about the contact with apple is, that they never told me how they fixed my problem lol.
It must have been something with my Apple ID tho. My guess is, that somehow an old device was still connected to my apple account, or that it happened because my Apple ID is very old. My mail still ends on @mac.com.

Either way, 2nd level support recorded logs of my devices while trying to add a recovery contact, they send it to their software engineer team, and they found a solution. I think the whole process took a month. It is a little time consuming and annoying of course, but if it is a possibility for you, give them a call.
