Nobody had an issue with iPhone 6/7 being made out of aluminum. Now it’s “cheap”
What a silly argument. Heaven forbid we should prefer better quality products as time goes by, where old stuff feels… old by comparison.

The 17 Pro line feels SUPER cheap by comparison to the 16 Pro. Could honestly pass as a knockoff iPhone it feels so cheap. Again, some years ago that may not feel like the case. But today, after the 16 Pro? This is a material downgrade.

I have exclusively charged every pro since MagSafe came out via MagSafe nightly, caseless. I’ve never had any semblance of any permanent markings from doing so. I presume that will continue with my air.
You know people will make excuses. these are simply not made out of the best material and I don’t know why people just can’t say it.
Would folks be willing to pay say $250 more for the phone to have a different heat dissipation system and materials? I suspect not. These are powerful devices that generate a lot of heat that must be dealt with.

It's easy to criticise the choices Apple made, and yes, it is not above criticism. I just think that Apple made the right choice out of those available.
doesn’t the Samsung have the heat dissipation system in titanium?

It sucks that it scratches easily but I'm glad it sill passed the durability test. Cosmetic damage isn't a focus so much for me, more so that the screen, back glass, and internals all can still function after a few drops.
Did you watch the video? The thumbnail is clickbaity. The edges of the plateau are the only real problem areas, and a big design oversight by Apple. The anodizing is going to chip there and there isn’t much you can do to stop it.

The rest of the phone gets high praise as most of the light everyday scratches, including those on the back patch of glass wipe away. The aluminum sides/edges didn’t seem any more prone to deep scratches than the titanium of the 15/16.

Overall it seems to be the most solidly built iPhone apple has ever made, extremely durable with one glaring cosmetic oversight. I guess each person can decide if that is a show stopper for them, but it seems like the gripes people are having about the choice of aluminum are superficial.

Plus, let’s be real, if it gets too bad, Apple is likely to make it right in the long run. Most of those griping are either too young or too new to the Apple ecosystem to remember back in the iPhone 3GS days when they would no questions asked replace an entire phone within 3 years of purchase because the chrome came off the volume rocker. Who knows what they’ll do in this case but, if it gets to a point where 25-50% of the edge is chipping away for people, I trust Apple to do right by it.

If you were buying a pro for the bragging rights about it being made out of Titanium, Surgical Grade Stainless Steel, or whatever other exotic sounding material of the year, I think the Air is now your device. I played with one at the local Apple Store last night and I have to say, as someone that thought I would hate it, it was a very alluring device that made me second guess my choice to get the Pro a couple of times. Very sleek, very solid, and as close to that old Apple “magic” of “how did they do this” as we’ve gotten in a long time. It’s glaring oversight is the lack of at least a second camera.

I upgrade every year by purchasing the latest iPhone. However, this is the first year I simply cannot accept returning to cheap aluminum unibody after the titanium of my 16 Pro Max.

This is NOT the 17 Pro Max I was waiting for. Please, please tell me there’s a black titanium version on the way...

Do you understand why the changes were made? And given that, if you were in the Apple product development meeting, what would you have proposed for heat dissipation, materials, cost to Apple and retail cost, and product appearance?

First world problems …
We all have the choice to buy, or not, the things we like …
Yes and not tell companies when we are diss

Samsung kept titanium with heat dissipation

I just read a few comments on reddit w/r/t the Samsung. One person claimed without a case the heat generated would be unbearable. More than one.

The only thing pro on the pro is the extra camera lens. Other than that it's gimmicky. especially the aluminum is better at heat distribution. The rails on the 16 pros was the only thing titanium. The rest was aluminum and it didnt need a giant island to put internals into.

I think it looks premium to a point but I haven't held one. I think the problem is that iPhones are pretty much the same year in and year out and we get used to the same design and feel. However the new design of the Pro/PM is ugly as hell and I think it looks cheap personally.

Home button has nothing to do with it. The member who posted what I replied brought up a valid point.
The point that going back to old tech/design/materials is valid? Going back to the home button would be welcomed, by the same logic.

I had a 16PM. I know I’m not the target user for a 17 Pro upgrade, but when I picked up my Air I compared all 3. Sadly, the in-hand feel solidified the fact that if the Air wasn’t released, then I wouldn’t be considering an upgrade from a titanium or stainless Pro model. I hope they backpedal in a coming year.

They won’t. The aluminium unibody is here to stay imo. At least a good few years
