cant decide ios or android

ive tested out iphone x for about 2 weeks...ive enjoyed using it. its smooth, i like the face unlock and and notification pull down drawer

i have a pixel 1..using it since 2016. still runs fine and i like the google voice command integration. i put ios launcher on it...just 5" screen is small to me now. pro's are i can use android auto mod in my car-cant with iphone and voice commands.

am i missing a feature that in ios that im missing to make up for that?

It’s up to you for what you feel more comfortable with. I’m not sure how many more security updates the pixel 1 will get - which is why I dislike Android in general iPhone gets updates for at least 4 years for each phone and even the older OSes may get security fixes too.

iOS voice control isn’t perfect but for my needs to make calls, send texts, and play music I’m very happy with it.

The fluid feel and speed is just top notch on iPhones. None of that dragging feeling or waiting for apps to open.

I personally just like iOS better but that’s me.

i can still use google assistant with the X, too bad can't use it from locked screen (but face unlock makes that quicker

Android is an unwieldy security disaster for 90% or more of the devices in the wild (many a year or so old and herds more in the past) thanks to carriers fragmenting hell out of the market and not providing any updates.

I prefer not having to roll my own updates and use apps that are stable and don’t look like junior high school wood shop creations.

Apple is by no means perfect though much better what Google, slamsung and others have to offer at the moment. Having a unified development platform and standard hardware is not a bad thing in my opinion.

If Android hardware manages to converge in some semblance of an organized fashion down the road and application quality improves, I’m happy to give it another try.

Three times I’ve tried an Android device over the last 4-5 years and each time, gave up in befuddlement after ~1 week.

You seem very angry friend? Let me. Guess, you had a 50 dollar droid phone 5 years, compared it against a 1000 iPhone and wondered why it was pants.. But are comparing them apples to apples... How do you roll your own upgrades? Not sure about that, and high school apps? Really.. Something tells me you have less than zero knowledge of current day android. Name calling Samsung straight away tells us you have some weird juvenile agenda.
I bet you would be gobsmacked if you picked up a recent flagship handset... They don't win awards for nothing...

It really is personal preference. I far prefer stock vanilla Android like on a Pixel or Oxygen OS on a OnePlus phone. To me that's Android. All other manufacturers just don't understand how to do it right.

Only iPhone I like is a Jailbreak one.

I generally advise against jailbreaking in favor of switching to android and rooting, but I am a little interested in the latest iPhone jailbreak.

I have both an iPhone Xs and a Samsung Galaxy S10, so a perfectly comparable same generation matchup and would say go with whichever suits you the best. Up until 2018 I've been all iOS (so the opposite of you) and find that in 2020 Android is more my style, at least at this time. This is not to say that it'll stay that way although I do feel it will for at least another generation of phones.

For me the areas that Android (and in part OneUI) excels at is one handed usage, I do more within my screen on time and my screen on time is significantly down. iPhones in 2020 are two handed phones for me and basically ~~~> no bueno! And before anyone mentions the SE 2020… I would only ever choose that over an S10 if I were tied to iOS. As I'm not the phones aren't even close.

By the way, be careful with what you compare to what. It doesn't yourself any decent service to do an unbalanced comparison. So putting an iPhone X vs a Pixel 1 doesn't give you a 2020 view of iOS and even less so with Android. Both iOS 13 and Android 10 have their strengths, and are both highly flawed. It just comes down to your alignment with the strengths and the flaws being less than deal-breakers.

I tried uncOver last week on my 11 Pro Max it’s pretty simple. I added a few tweaks and got rid of the notch ears. The kicker for me was that I’ve been playing Mariokart Tour a bit and it checks for jailbreak. So the game freezes after 5 seconds. I think you also need to re-jailbreak if you reboot the iPhone, can’t remember, but it’s just a click of a button so no big deal.

I removed all tweaks and JB related stuff and then restored to a pre JB backup through iTunes. Not worth it to me. Can do everything I want within Android on my S20+ without silly jailbreak or root.

I do not have a facial recognition phone so not a $1k phone at present...

Naww- I tried Google Pixel's on two different iterations and a slamsung device once- the experiences were like Windoze Vista... I said hasta la vista BABY in sort order.

Nice app crashing and inconsistent UI compared to what I've already got; then there is the swirling circle (down the drain) about how apps are vetted/where apps come from and can be downloaded...

Maybe one day I'll try again when they sort of go in the same direction and one or more of them put out security patches in a timely fashion and consistently for like 3 years on more than a few platforms.

My Slamsung also can handle any game I've thrown at it without lag or stutter unlike my 11 Pro Max that throttles due to heat after 5 minutes. Damn Slamsung with its LagWiz UI and laggy 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz screen polling rate. What a POS.

That's just because of when Google schedules the updates on Pixels. The Pixels get updated starting at 1 PM Eastern on the first Monday of the month, even if that Monday is the 7th. Mine has the June update pending now actually, it was downloaded and has installed, I just have to reboot to switch to the alternate partition (Pixels use A/B system partitions, A gets updated while using B, reboot to A after the update completes and once the update is verified as working B gets updated so it mirrors A). The alternate partition system allows for faster times for actually performing the update, less downtime of the device.

Is that because you are not using Samsung and do not have Knox and the secure safe area that is segregated ?

Hopefully they are better than the re-released boo boo security updates that Google put out early on when they started taking patching and security more seriously.

I don't play games... on phones or elsewhere. It is much more fun and rewarding to trade real $$$ on the stock exchanges.

Faster updates than Pixels as of late- that's awesome. If that continues consistently, I'm game to try again. The quality of apps has improved but still not quite there yet from what I've seen.

Sure hope you don't end up off of a (carrier induced) cliff on unsupported hardware.

Solid DSDS SIM/eSIM implementation.
Verizon specific - switches over to WiFI calling at higher sig strength than Android phones (VZW locks Mobile-preferred). Pixel stays in mobile until the LTE signal is unusable.
Physical mute switch!
iMessage & Facetime (more of a USA thing)!
Great Video quality
Solid Panoramas
Ultrawide camera, but not the best image quality
Fantastic hardware build and resale value!
Seamless encrypted backups including many passwords etc. Simple restore.
Airdrop - VERY handy
Continuity - Clipboard, browser pages, etc that work across all Apple devices - VERY handy
Screen brightness in daylight dramatically better than Pixel
Best haptics in the business
Speaker quality is great
Fluidity and App quality/uniformity
Password manager (Bitwarden and LastPass used) integration smoother and more reliable than Pixel
FaceID very polished and reliable. Fully integrated with app ecosystem.
Move AirpPods easily from iPhone to Mac to iPad.

Pixel Advantages:

The stills camera still beats the iPhone. Don't like iPhone's outdoor white balance, exposure or midtone contrast. Can mostly be fixed in post.
USB-C standardization!
Google assistant destroys Siri!
Google apps ecosystem much preferred!
Google apps fonts render better in Android (a little small in iOS vs chosen system font size)
Can assign default apps!
Notification system dramatically better
Android Auto app (without having it built into car)
Always on display with "now playing" and notification icons!
Realtime background updates (e.g. - Google photos uploads in background)!
Widgets and screen layouts dramatically better!
Nova Launcher
SPAM blocking on calls
AirMessage gives me iMessage access

I'm always torn on iPhone vs Pixels. Camera quality is number one for me, and iPhone has made great strides in the past year. I'd love to see better still image processing, but they seem to have consciously made these choices.
