this is the thing imessage means nothing to me now as everybody i know i text via whatsapp...UK people seem to now.

Problem is I have everything apple

watch
7 plus
ipad pro
macbook

however the S8 plus and tab S3 is tempting to me right now. IOS is what I like as it's smooth performance wise and the performance has let me down with samsung in recent years.

I'm annoyed by the iphone rumours that the OLED model is likely only going to be 5'1 inches of useable screen. I want a big screen and the 6.2 inch S8 plus really is interesting me
I've got two Samsung watches and an Apple Watch. I do love my Apple Watch the best. But the Samsung watches work well, too.

I like my iPhone SE for when I need a really small pocketable phone. I have found, after owning my HTC 10 and my S7, that a medium sized phone like the iPhone 7 is still going to be hard on the pockets so I may as well go big for my all-around phone. I'll keep my SE until it stops working for when I need that small form factor. For the longest time I've griped about the size of the Plus sized iPhones but now I'm on board with the size at long last.

I did take a good look at the Huawei Mate 9 tonight. It was very nice with a big beautiful display. But the camera performance on auto mode was really poor compared to my iPhone 7 Plus and even my HTC 10. The color accuracy was really bad. I had to go into manual settings to adjust the white balance to get something close to accurate, and that just threw off other colors a bit. I have waited seemingly forever, but iPhone 7 finally delivers on the color accuracy I wanted. It's not perfect, either, but it's to my preferences and it's close.

The video on the Mate 9 was atrocious. Don't pan. Just don't. It has a bad case of the jitters. My S7 and S7 Edge have that problem, too, but not nearly as pronounced as it is in the Mate 9. Any slight bit of zooming introduced an unacceptable level of noise. In comparison my IPhone 7 Plus had a very small bit of noise on zooming.

The audio for the recording was good but it made my daughter sound squeaky. The iPhone mic doesn't record in stereo but it still reproduced her voice more faithfully than the Mate 9 did.

Still, if I end up with a kid in college while my husband and I are living on a retirement income and possibly dealing with medical expenses for our elders and ourselves--and partially supporting one of my sisters-in-law, you can bet I could adjust my expectations and live quite well with a smart phone like the Mate 9. Either that or go back to making my cell phone purchases stretch out a full 2-3 years like we did when we were starting out.

I think Apple do have a very good support service, particularly in store, its good you can just walk along to a store and get a device looked at. I do have to wonder how much of a nightmare hardware issues would be with the various Android device manufactures (except Samsung who have a high street presence now).

I think my mind has been made up to stay with Apple.... the next thing is to work out whether to wait for later this year or go for one of the current devices. I thought I'd hate the 7 Plus but on inspecting it closely recently its a great device (not sure my pockets would agree) but it is so expensive, its hard to justify that cost tbh.

I'd consider waiting till Sept then when the 7+ will be discounted $100 bucks.

Or you could go on eBay or Swappa to get a bigger discount than $100 by that time. Even Boost Mobile is selling the 7+ for $569.99. You can get an unlock code off eBay for $30 or so as well. Talking about a bigger discount than $100 as well.

Android is relatively easy in terms of sharing file and apps. If you are a mac user you must stick with iPhone. Otherwise you can go for Android device. I like One Plus 3.

I don't think Mac users must stick with iPhone. It's perhaps easier or more convenient in some ways if you have a Mac and want to have things in sync and all that, but I think it's pretty far from a "must".

You could always do that.

But I like to buy new (and I'm assuming the OP is the same) and I doubt new phones even on Swappa will be $100 less than retail when the 7+ is less than 6 months old.

But deals can be had I'm sure if he wants to be vigilant.

If you have a Mac it's definitely another reason to get an iPhone but I'm sure droids and Macs play very nicely together too. The one thing I'd be hesitant about is syncing music to one because I'm so reliant on iTunes but that's not the end of the world.

iPhone 7 Plus is sweeet but it's very expensive. I'd like to keep with iOS and keep updating hardware with Apple but it all depends on what Apple is going to do with pricing in the future.

It's really hard to give up iMessage because it's not easy to find people willing to install WhatsApp to text you. Not even family will do it. Heck, especially not family.

Nevertheless, due to rising costs of iPhones, my husband and I continue to experiment with Android. Right now we're still on a good income and can afford the Apple upgrade path and to mess around with different options, but at some point college expenses for my now 12 year old will hit us along with retirement about the same time. Ouch. So we are getting a sense of what different options at different price points can give us.

A few months ago the HTC 10 was a steal at $500. That is an excellent phone. I get great signal and voice clarity on AT&T and because it's unlocked, I get pushed updates very promptly. I got Nougat a couple of months ago. It's great. But HTC as a company is all over the place now, so I don't want to invest in an upgrade path with them.

There are some user interface things I prefer in iOS. I can't see abandoning them anytime soon. I love my iPhone 7 Plus. It's exceeded my expectations.

But at some point iPhones will be priced beyond reasonability if current trends continue. (Samsung, too, for that matter). My husband and I are going to pop over to Best Buy this weekend and look at Huawei and Honor phones. Just to see what a medium outlay of cash can buy.

I can definitely see your point. I'm equally concerned about the future (OK, let's count the current one in as well) pricing of iPhones and while I can afford them, I've had some serious thoughts regarding whether it makes sense anymore, especially when considering that in Finland we get only a part of the advertised product. No Apple Pay here yet, and this stage I'm willing to bet that it'll remain this way. So even though we don't have Android Pay here either, banks have written quite decent apps that allow mobile payments with NFC-equipped Android phones. I guess they'd do the same for iPhone if Apple just allowed developer access to NFC hardware, but currently it looks like that's not happening and it's a bummer for all of us living in non-Apple Pay countries. We'll get to pay ever-increasingly massive amounts of money for our iPhones, but capability-wise Androids costing half as much or often even less are leapfrogging the very same expensive iPhones in markets where Apple just can't get the necessary deals done or open up the APIs a little.

I've also been eyeing the Honor phones due to them being dual-SIM devices and with my current job line having a sluggish data and occasionally bad reception in areas where I frequent. Having both the work SIM and my personal SIM with better data in the same device would make my life so much easier as I wouldn't have to think about where I'm going and which line is actually going to have some coverage there. This is also something where I can't really see Apple helping me out, at least with a solution that would work in Finland, so if I want dual-SIM, I most likely need to go Android.

this is the thing imessage means nothing to me now as everybody i know i text via whatsapp...UK people seem to now.

Same thing in Finland. iMessage is less and less relevant as many have replaced their earlier iPhones with more reasonably priced Android devices. Even though my wife and I both have iPhones, we dont' use iMessage to communicate as we communicate with others via Facebook Messenger and Whatsapp, so we're using FB Messenger between us as well. So for me possibly losing iMessage won't matter a bit.

Boost Mobile is the safest bet for a cheaper price. They offer a 14 day money back guarantee. It gives a buyer time to purchase an unlock code as well. eBay protects buyers as well, so there is very little risk besides losing time while having $ tied up on a card for a bit if a refund or two is necessary. Though I think waiting for the S8 is wiser. As a former 7+ owner, I had mine replaced four times for audio feedback issues, hiss-gate, and tons of dropped calls. I would go with the Galaxy S8 simply because of better value. I did some speed tests on my old 7+ vs a Note 5 I use now and it's slightly faster on the Note 5 despite being a year older. Idk how Apple even considered going with those crappy Intel modems.

Nothing more than a way to save money by going with cheaper radios (which also happen to be inferior in capability too).

Now that IUP buyers are complaining their GSM phones aren't able to work on Verizon/Sprint and demanding satisfaction, perhaps Apple will rethink what radios they go with for the IUP segment.

More and more, Apple is losing their way. More interested to $$$ than delivering the best they can do.

You had your iPhone replaced FOUR times?

I've had 5 Samsung phones total and aside from the last Note 7 that did indeed start overheating to scary levels the last few days I had it, I noticed there was quite a lot of variance in quality among my four plus the 4 my husband had. Some were steady and could do anything without overheating and others overheated randomly and often. There were variances in screen quality with some having undesirable tints.

Right now we have 3 iPhone 7 pluses in the family and they appear identical in quality and looks.

I don't have the Intel modem but my dad does not like to take the calls I make on my iPhone. Or any iPhone I've had. He only does not complain when I call him from my S7/S7 Edge or my HTC 10.

I haven't tested the two iPhone 7 pluses that don't belong to me, but I don't have a hiss problem. We got ours for Christmas so I think Apple may have quietly corrected some of the problems plaguing the earlier release. I can only guess why ours seem to be free of the complaints that plagued so many others.

I do have many news apps and other random apps like wallpaper creators crash to the home screen. I'm not used to iOS doing that except for when I had my 5s, I can't remember what version of iOS I was running on that but the combo was awful.

Then things have been stable on iOS 9 on my SE, but now on iOS 10 on my 7 Plus I get a lot of crashes and I don't have many apps loaded and I have 256GB of storage and my phone has only been running two and a half months.

So right now my level of crashing on Marshmallow on Samsung and Nougat on HTC 10 is slightly less than my level of crashing on iOS 10. On Android it's mostly games that crash. On iOS it is usually news apps and sometimes Safari.

Sorry if this post is worded awkwardly. The weather has turned from cold to hot overnight and that's triggered a migraine.

Yep, most of my replacements were for hissing and audio feed back issues within the first few weeks in September and October. I would hear some weird feedback when driving around on my normal commute at night. A lot of areas, like an area I use to commute to work, cause others to not hear me at all or say I sound robotic. For $45 a month, I should have the best call quality on the market, but nope. A Galaxy Note 5 has better reception than a 2016 iPhone.

I've also had complaints from the other end of a call with my iPhone 7. This doesn't happen every time, but it has become more frequent lately, so there might be something wrong with my unit as well. The interesting part is that to me everything sounds just fine, no rattling or hissing or anything like that, but the other end is having problems with hearing what I say.

So far I've talked to my dad (he was on his landline) and one of the teachers I was coordinating some stuff with at school. She was on an iPhone of some sort, I'm not sure which model but she texts me via iMessage sometimes.

I can never hear the teacher properly. I'm not sure she can hear me, either. I'll have to ask her. In all my time owning iPhones my dad has complained that I sound like I'm talking from the bottom of a barrel. I wpild have to remove the cases (I use various ones) so he could hear me better, but it never helped completely. He says I'm either muffled or breaking up. Which is how the teacher sounds to me. I can't say the connection between my husband's iPhone and mine, both on AT&T have always been as clear as I'd like.

It wasn't until I tried a Samsung phone that my dad one day declared "Finally, I can hear you!" He says the best connection is when I call him from my HTC 10. Interestingly enough I've had this discussion before on this forum and it was pointed out to me that these connections are better despite Samsung phones and HTC 10s having lower SAR levels.

I am not committed to any platform yet. I'm still evaluating my options for the long term. 2017 will be an interesting year to see what direction the companies are taking.

I'm very curious about Alexa and Bixby on smart phones. I could try Reverb app to get Alexa on my iPhone but I'm reluctant to enter my Amazon passwords on it. I don't know enough about why it even exists or how it monetizes itself since there don't appear to be any ads nor do the developers charge for the app.

One thing to consider is software updates. It's somewhat baffling how difficult it still seems to be for too many manufacturers to release timely updates. I wouldn't mind too much if there were some delays with new feature releases, but when even security updates start lagging behind, things aren't OK. My S7 Edge was doing generally OK in this regard (security updates arrived during the corresponding month, although sometimes really close to the end of the month), but when Nougat was starting to get delivered, they seemed to completely drop the ball for regions where Nougat hasn't been released for their hardware yet. My S7 Edge was stuck on December security updates until I switched to the UK (BTU) ROM and got Nougat together with January updates. Now I'm waiting for February patches to arrive.

I was considering also the Honor 8 for its dual-SIM capabilities together with a decent camera, but after finding out how infrequently they bother to release updates, it went straight to the "how about no?" category. If some manufacturer could release a decent dual-SIM phone with a good camera and timely updates, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. However, I'm not sure if such a thing exists.

Apple will never give you best signal quality. Intel modems aside, their tech is a year or two behind from Samsung with things like 256 WQAM involved and what not. Motorola and RIM Blackberry were once the standard bearers for signal strength. Now, it's probably Samsung amongst a few others not named Apple. Having a phone to talk with family is important, so I would focus on getting the Note 8 while using the SE as your iPhone device for now. If you get the itch, the S8 Plus is probably going to be the best device of the year until the Note 8 reinstates the Note lineage.

An update to thread original post. Gone with the iPhone 6S Plus which I got sealed new and only 4 months old (8 months Apple warranty remaining) via eBay at a good price. I decided the 7 was over priced and the new phone later this year would be more expensive still, and as a new parent with my first child this was the most cost effective option and allows me to keep my Apple ecosystem (watch, TV, MacBook pro, iPad) going a little longer. Thanks for all the interesting comments on this thread.

When I speak to my wife over my cars B/T connection, it's like we are speaking face to face; amazing clarity. Maybe it's because of volte(VZW), I don't know.

I had a coworker with an iphone and everytime he called there were dropouts in the conversation. It only happened to him, but he was one of the rare fellows on t-mobile (AT&T and Verizon didn't have such issues). I think that had something to do with it.

I do not get the experience of speaking on my iphone as if I (or the other person) was underwater, however.

I just go myself an upgrade to my 6s with an iphone 7. While I'm probably in the minority, there was enough of an upgrade for me to justify buying the phone. I'm waiting to see what September holds.

The reason why I have an iPhone is because it's fast and is a no fuss phone. I don't have to tinker with it and it's rock solid.

If I were to switch to Android, it would be the Pixel.

To be honest I would see if you can borrow a device for a week to see if you like Android before you go all in. I know 2 people in the last 6 months who are long time iPhone users who upgraded to the S7 and both are back with the iPhone. They both had to sell the device are pay off the contract which put them out of pocket. Then again I suppose you have 14 days to return on a purchase so that may be an option.

Android isn't everybody's cup of tea and requires quite a bit of fiddling in my experience. I've just bought an Apple Watch so it's further more convinced me of my future OS preference.

No headphone jack is a deal breaker for me because I love plugging in different headphones. I like doing this because I can listen to the same songs in a new light.

Very good choice. It essentially performs the same so unless you care about having the latest and greatest there's very little point in going for the 7 with the discounts that can be had.

Yesterday was an interesting day for testing our Samsung S7/S7 Edge phones and our iPhone 7 Plus phones. And Apple AirPods.

I was initially with my Galaxy S7 out at the rim of our property, checking on trenching that a neighbor was having done adjacent to our property line. My husband called me from his iPhone 7 Plus. He was on VoLTE. I could not make out what he was saying very well. There was something about the connection causing popping noise that caused his words to run together.

So we started testing. He switched to AirPods. Better but still not clear. Then he got on his S7 Edge. That was the clearest.

Then he tried again with all 3 of his phones with VoLTE off. Okay but not great. Then back on VoLTE. This time he sounded good on the iPhone. I then came in and got my iPhone 7. We tried different configurations and combinations of phones. The end result was that the odd interference had gone and call clarity between iphone 7 Pluses was clear and near perfect whether on wireless or cellular. We remain puzzled as to why the first calls were so horrific.

We have AT&T cellular service and Verizon wifi service.

I use the dongle for my iPhone 7 Plus. It works well but ...ugh...dongles. I do also use some wireless earbuds and my Beats Studio wireless.

Honestly when I'm really serious about chilling with some songs I use my HTC 10 and my best wired earpbuds. The DAC on the HTC 10 is awesome. The HTC 10 was a very good buy. I get updates on a regular basis and it works well. It was almost an iPhone killer for me. Almost. My iPhone 7 Plus just does a few too many things better.

My S7 and S7 Edge justify their existence by doing VR for me and being cute and fun. All my Androids let me avoid having to go through ITunes for certain things so...there's that.

File management of any sort is extremely difficult on iOS. If that is your concern, do not buy an iPhone.
[doublepost=1511449699][/doublepost]
I currently have an iPhone 6. I've been considering an iPhone 7 or 7 plus recently but also find myself thinking about moving on to a more value for money phone such as a OnePlus 3T, google pixel/xl, or a Samsung s7.

I've been an iPhone user for years and never used android.

The other option is to wait 6 months and see what the phone landscape looks like?

Comments guys and girls? I'm in the UK btw.
Please never buy an iPhone again. Android is usually cheaper and it’s a far superior OS. The iPhone doesn’t do much that Android doesn’t do, and Android has so many amazing features (real file management, actual multitasking, not limited to iTunes for music, lots of Google compatibility features, unrestricted Google Play Store) that there is no reason not to get one. I’m about to buy an HTC One M9 and I’m very excited for the Android 7.0 features my iGarbage 7 doesn’t have.

Currently have an iPhone 7plus, and I don’t usually post in these threads but I think I might prepare myself for the flack.

I’ve been brand loyal to an insane level. Every new Iphone, every new iPad etc. But the time has come for a change next January I think. My ecosystem has evolved towards android without my really noticing. I have a 4K Android tv. File transfer is clunky and unreliable under iOS no matter what app I use. I’m leaning towards a new top spec android next year.

I await the flack
