I have the App Store icon in the Dock with the question mark, and I can't seem to remove it from the Dock, even when I select Options - Remove from Dock. When I do that, after a computer restart, the question mark icon just reappears in the Dock.

So now there's a question mark icon in the dock that does nothing, looks annoying and can't be removed.

Can't figure this one out.

easy fix to delete app store icon from dock

i just called apple support and they helped me delete it. it will work if you have a question mark there also from trying to delete it. follow these steps:

1. open finder

2. open your mac HD drive by clicking on it in the left column

3. open the library folder.

4. then open the folder called preferences.

5. now you are looking for a file called "com.apple.dockfixup.plist"
-remove this file by dragging it to your desktop.
-now click and drag any icons fro you dock that wont delete or that
keep coming back on start up.

6. reboot the computer and now the icon should be gone for good. you can
now drag the "com.apple.dockfixup.plist" file to you trash.

this file will be automatically recreated my the operating system so no reason to worry about messing anything up by deleting it.

when you do a combo update from apple it may be reinstalled but you can follow those steps again.

Make sure you quit the app beforehand. Applies to any app on the dock; it will disappear once quit.
