According to this blog https://blog.thomasfitzgeraldphotography.com/blog/2021/4/capture-one-for-m1-macs-coming-in-may and Capture One's Facebook page (because they still have one in 2021 and can't do announcements on their own website for some reason), we are expecting the full native M1 version of Capture One in May.

While we can't reliably colour correct screens on M1 yet, it is great to see that such a important piece of software is finally moving over to M1 and apparently it was with Apple's support so perhaps we will get it using Metal instead of OpenGL/OpenCL and with all the ground work done I can't imagine them scuffing their feet much longer about the iPad Pro version that is often asked for.

Yes, I'm really looking forward to what they're going to deliver. I've been pretty impressed with some of the new "openness" from their new leadership. We'll see how that progresses. But good stuff indeed. Metal will be a great start!

I don't know about "openness" as they are insanely tight lipped on things and Capture One 21 was a bit naff, though I do love the keyboard controls. I understand software engineers want to tell their customers everything they are working on but marketing and management tells them no, but that usually comes from a senior engineer saying something is in the works that is then delayed or canceled or moved to a new version. Suddenly customers treat this as a failed promise even if it was never confirmed.

Yeah - they're still reasonably tight-lipped, just less so. They got a new CEO in December or some such and they've been more willing to forecast functionality and give more dates to things than they used to, at least from my perspective. They've even had the CEO out giving interviews, which I don't ever remember them doing. Obviously, time will tell.

Just got a mail with a 40% off code (again) for C1 21 with the info that a M1 version is coming. Great news! Now release a iPad port please :)

With the TB3 port, mini LED screen, and M1 in the iPad Pro is it just screaming for Capture One. I would love to just dump my photos into a iPad from my TB3 CF Express reader and edit them on the go on something that intuitive.

This so much. It would be glorious, especially with a pen.

Another wee update. Some people that haven't respected their NDA's have spilled the beans over at Reddit that it is indeed using Metal for the AS version so I would expect major improvements all around. And once more, there is no reason for it not to be on iPad Pro.

And on a different track, one of the demos of the iPad Pro had it being used almost like a poor mans ATAMOS Ninja. If it could be it would really bring the pro into its own.

I’m waiting with the upgrade until at least after the WWDC. I don’t own a M1 Mac and want to know what to expect first.

For a photographer the main issue just now is calibrating your screen. Other than that, photo editing software on ARM runs much smoother and faster than it did even on powerful Intel machines. Capture One under Rossetta 2 is faster on my M1 that it is on my 2018 Mac mini i7, 2x6 core 3.44 Xeon Mac Pro, and even the 2018 MBP i7 6 core with the Radeon 550.

I currently use a Ryzen desktop which is plenty fast so I’m not in a hurry. But I want to get rid of it and want to see if an iPad can do the job.

I am delighted to report that as it says on the tin, it is markedly faster than under Rosetta 2 and markedly faster than most of my Intel machines at importing and generating previews. The thing that really sets it apart is the more mundane tasks like painting in a mask, panning the image, zooming in and out, and previewing a preset; these tasks feel smoother than any machine I have tried prior as if previous machines had that little extra latency between mouse click and action.

As an aside, just one application left to get to native ARM now in my library.

Doesn't look like the site admin have caught on to this story yet.
I think Adobe gets most of the press as they're pretty ubiquitous. Not that there aren't a lot of us using Capture One, of course! I'm excited to see this and I like the "openness" that the company is showing under its new CEO. Even though they weren't able to swing moving the Intel platforms to Metal just yet, I'm still seeing performance improvements based on all of the work they've done behind the scenes, particularly on masks and even preview generation for me.

I would almost agree with you on Adobe. Yet Serif continue to get front page coverage with their apps. And Capture One is the biggest competitor to Lightroom, arguably the more professional oriented tool, and they managed to beat Adobe to M1 native. In addition we know know they are actively working on Capture One for the iPad Pro, which is pretty huge news in the photography world as we'll finally be able to edit RAW images on the iPad with presumedly a full desktop class application.

Great news. It was sluggish on my M1 (Mac mini) but I think I'll buy the full version at once.
But what is "styles pack or "Ultimate Styles Collection"?
There's 145 "styles" in 13 packs included for €499

Just extra preset filters. I personally don't use them so can't comment if they are worth the money.
