Downloaded the update to Catalina but appear to be stuck on "Setting Up Your Mac..." Any suggestions? Thanks.

Catalina clean install in MacBook Pro 15 2015 with a Samsung EVO 970 500GB running smooth as silk. MacBook Air 2015 13 500GB running fast.

I did clean install on both machines, I have not experience any problem so far.

Same here, 2 hrs still waiting. But I remember installer public beta on another computer, and even if I did not get stuck at the Seting up your Mac screen, after the install, I think I saw my the complete iCloud Drive being downloaded then re-uploaded For every files. Maybe it is doing the same thing now.

Also, my beta test computer was not setup with FileVault but after the install it was. No question ask. Could be another reason for the long time. But in any case, I should not be stuck at this screen.

I had the same problem whereby the setting up your Mac screen was stuck (I even left it over night). Turning my Mac off and on again also fixed it

I had the same problem with an upgrade install on my iMac (27-inch, Late 2012). This screen appeared immediately after the one asking if I wanted to enable Screen Time. I noted that after the reboot everything was okay and a scan of all disks using Disk Utility revealed no errors. Screen Time however was not enabled and I had to enable it manually.

Theory: Could this have been a bug in the Screen Time? Did anyone who experienced the captioned issue choose no to enabling Screen Time during the setup?

I assume the new folder iCloud Archive us new and there was a lot of shuffling around of files all w/o visual feedback notification going on.

The numbers, folder sizes, seem weird. How to stuff and alligator into a matchbox weird. Like the iCloud files aren't really there.

iMac 2017 - same. Successfully force restarted after waiting for 1-2 hours. Apple, how come?

Same here. Disappointed in the quality of this release. Oh well. Hopefully Apple takes note. Disappointed to see shared iCloud folders are still a ways off.

I let it sit for 15 mins then hard booted it - held down power. All was well on reboot.

Same here, my MBP 2013 was stuck @ „Setting Up Your Mac“

After reading the comments in this thread, I forced thhe power-off and restarted the Mac. It solved the problem.

Problem : Catalina upgrade from Mojave got stuck on "Setting Up Your Mac...". I waited 9 hours and it was still stuck.
Solution : Rebooted my iMac 2015. To do this I pressed and hooded the power button. Then presses the power button again. It took a long time to boot. I got a message saying the Mac was rebooted, I clicked OK. Then it took some time for the menu items to appear (top if screen and bottom of the screen). The computer is running Catalina OK.

I'm quite supervised and disappointed by this "Experience".

I'm wondering what I could have done to prevent this. I've got Bitdefender antivirus installed. Should I have uninstalled the antivirus (and rebooted) prior to upgrading my iMac? I did uninstall all 32 bit apps (and rebooted) prior to upgrading.

I had the same experience as everyone else. I let it sit overnight, about 8 hours, and it will still stuck at that screen. A forced reboot has me working (I am assuming no negative ramifications from it). I did select to configure Screen Time before it got stuck at "setting up your Mac".

Beta 1 of Catalina did this to me but that's it. I'm not surprised the bug still stuck around in the public release though.

I hate to be that person, but, Jobs wouldn't have allowed this software to be released in this condition.

I had to reboot my MacBook due to same reason, after rebooting, it works fine (apparently, anyway). iMac upgraded just fine. On both Norton Security 8.5 Build 330 broke, but I managed to fix.

Nothing you could (should) have done. Many of us had to power down and reboot to solve the problem. Just poor workmanship by what some call "the most successful company in the world".

On a more positive note, great avatar. My hometown and I attended many events at the '76 Olympics. I guess Mayor Drapeau never did have the baby that he promised

Exactly the same, left it “setting up your mac” overnight, still there this morning. Left it while I was out all day, still same on my return. I will give the force reboot a go ?
