I only buy cellular models as I'm very mobile and I look the combination of light weight, small footprint and seamless, uninterrupted connectivity as defining advantages of using an iPad over a laptop.

Also you can tether devices. I have 8GB personal hotspot so really where is the use in cellular?

Yes you can, but it's sometimes spotty, sucks the phone's battery down fast, and when you travel with local prepaid SIM on your phone, many don't allow tethering. With a hotspot, it's one more device to carry (and charge).

In the early days of the iPad, I always got the cellular version because it was hard to find public wifi. But, nowadays, you can connect everywhere so for the last 3 years, I've been solely buying the wifi version.

Many times, cellular performance is better than public wifi. I've been in more than one situation where hotel wifi just sucks. I just flip over to cellular and life is good. It's all about having the option.

Just a quick question for you. Would you know when you get the Sim card from the carrier store, do you need to bring in your iPad or can you just ask them for the Sim card?

I got my SIM card at the Telus store when I signed up for the plan. My iPad was at home. They will give you the card to take home. But the card won't work until they activate it of course.

i had a cellular iPad 3 back in the day and used it exactly two times lol my Air 2 and now my iPad Pro are wifi only. i just have no need for it since i use my iPad mostly at home but of course thats just my use case

I've gotten the cellular model every time (iPad 3, Mini 2, pro 9.7) and haven't regretted it. I use my iPad in the car running Waze every morning to get to work. Plus I find that having the cellular model increases the resale value somewhat. Its also secure, I'm not to fond of public wifi due to security reasons.

I have the original AT&T unlimited plan. While I do not use celllular much when at home, it helps a lot when I travel. Right now I am on cellular at the hotel because the complimentary WiFi is very slow. The cellular is much faster.
I did two speed tests at this particular hotel. Cellular 20 Mbs down - 10 Mbs up. Wifi .01 Mbs down failed upload

This is my first cellular iPad, I used mobile hot spot before. I carry the iPad to clients home and it will save some steps. I had a Plummer here who had the 12.9" with cellular and we got to talk about the convenience of the cellular version with clients. I have a big data plan with AT&T that I don't use all of. So after that conversation I felt the 10 bucks was worth it. For just personal use it is a great luxury, I think for business applications it is a must have! I take issue with some who are saying iPads are not used in business. They are used quite often. POS is easiest on iPads. Also the big screen is awesome for going over digital invoices. Many of my contractors use them as I do in that way. I also use iPad for floor plans and 3D modeling. Big advantage to be onsite with a client and contractors and make changes on the spot.

I have gone back and forth between wifi and wifi/cellular iPads. For my New Pro though, I went with cellular. It is going to be used on the go almost all the time and while tethering is an option it is annoying if you are connecting to it 10 times a day etc.

Our business requires tablets in the field instead of laptops. It is easier to enter what we need into a tablet on the go. iPads are not required...just some sort of tablet but if I am running the office, it's going to be an Apple office...no windoze for me;). The iPad I got for my co worker is the latest regular iPad (got myself a 10.5 pro because of course) but the deal on the new iPad with a Verizon was such a good deal! Couldn't turn it down!

Yes! I find hotel wifi can be terrible..or they give you crap wifi for free and you have to pay extra for wifi that actually works. It's just easier to have it on my iPad!

I tried tethered and it used to chew through the iPhone battery with all radios active.
Cellular on the iPad lasts all day for me and I can still use the phone.
Previously mentioned no more crappie hotel free congestion WiFi

Cellular for most of the family, now my wife and I are often just bringing the iPad and using "digits" to use the phone.

Love cellular. Wifi is often rubbish. LTE works most places I travel or go to.

I have the ATT unlimited plan but when I travel I buy a 20GB or 10GB data nano sim and install it for the duration. This has served me very well. I carry the iPad around all day when traveling and the battery stays good even with lots of GPS and other battery draining activities.

I wish laptops came with the same cellular capability.

Will be going cellular for my 10.5 purchase after some hiatus. My carrier is offering a $2/month sim that lets you "share" your mobile plan data on another device. My 6GB/month will finally be utilized more.

Who is your service provider?

Oh...and another reason for cellular...isn't most free wifi unsecured? That always makes me a bit apprehensive!

Wifi only, I don't see the point in paying extra for the IPP when its not going to be in situations where WIFI isn't available, and even if a rare occasion where it does, I can only create a hotspot with my phone if its absolutely needed

So are you suggesting a WiFi model over Cellular ?

Are you referring to the very old Grandfathered unlimited plan, or the unlimited plan that was recently changed into the Unlimited Choice and Plus versions.
