Satechi today announced the launch of two new accessories designed for Apple's latest MacBooks, the USB-4 Multiport Adapter with 8K HDMI and the Pro Hub Max. Both of the new products are designed to expand the number of available ports for Apple's MacBook models.

The USB-4 Multiport Adapter features an 8K HDMI port, a Gigabit Ethernet port, a USB-C PD charging port, three USB-A data ports that supports speeds of up to 10Gb/s, and micro/SD card readers. It supports 8K output at up to 60Hz, and Satechi says it has a design that's meant to allow for better heat dissipation to prevent connected devices from overheating.

Designed for Apple's M1 Pro and M1 Max MacBooks, the Pro Hub Max includes a 4K HDMI port for dual display functionality that supports up to 60Hz, a Gigabit Ethernet port, two USB-C ports, a USB-A port, micro/SD card readers, and an audio jack.

The Pro Hub Max is designed to plug into two of the USB-C ports on the side of one of Apple's new MacBook Pro models.

The USB-4 Multiport Adapter with 8K HDMI is priced at $150, while the Pro Hub Max is priced at $100. Both will be available from the Satechi website in the near future.

Stunning 8K HDMI

Features ultra-hi-res 8K HDMI output for stunning display whether you are working, streaming, or gaming – with a refresh rate up to 60Hz. Requires direct HDMI connection.MacOs supports up to 4k 60hz.

Good to see reasonable priced hubs, the $150 USB-4 Multiport Adapter features an 8K HDMI port is interesting given the MBP specs? Must be because this product is also meant for PCs that support that video spec.

I like Satechi, but I am wondering why they included a SD card reader since there is one in the MBP already???
Probably for card-to-card transfer ability. I've had a few times where it's necessary, or importing from multiple SD cards.

I have no clue about bandwidth and such but if I have a hub like this and plug in 3 SSD's via USB adapters to this dock, would the bandwidth be enough to not create a bottleneck for the disks? I have these SSD's internal in a Mac Pro tower now.

Hoping to see more full-sized hubs. The portable ones are nice for some things but I like being able to have the hub tucked away and a longer cable on the desk.

Also hoping we some that pass through 100W or more.

Wat? Do they think heat travels through the attached cables? Or are they talking about connected flash driver or SD cards? Never had a little portable hub heat up, even those that pass power.

Am I the only person who doesn't want/need a single USB-A port? Would love a hub but I switched everything to USB-C years ago.
For me I still like a older wired USB-A gaming mouse, use USB-A HDD storage, and expensive external Audio DACs don’t utilize USB-C. So it depends on what you still utilize. Using USB-C to USB-A dongle are a waste of valuable USB4 ports.

The controllers heat up, ones that use a lot of bandwidth have to use heat spreaders to ensure they don’t hit critical temperatures.

I still use a hub because everything I need to connect is USB-A.
Just buy this adapter, it works great on both my 2019 MBP 16" and my 2020 iPad Pro 11". I use it with all kind of devices like external HDDs, external blu-ray drive, scanner etc.

I also have this one (Micro USB to USB-C adapter), I use it on my DualShock 4 controller with a USB-C to USB-C cable:

Why do they put USB-A connection on a mac device 2021? Every Mac users more or less uses usb-c. I have replaced all my device that I use usb-c since many years. They could have the same speed but just put like 6 usb-c connectors on a hub and I will order instantly

Why do these hubs always have 3 inch long fixed cables? Kind of defeats the point of tidying your desk if you can't put the thing more than 6 inches away from your Mac...
The cable is 6" per chat with tech staff for the $150 USB4 Multiport Adapter with 8K HDMI, not 3".

I have been asking the same questions last years. I don’t now manufactures are the biggest wankers that don’t understand. I would be glad to have a hub with 6 usb-c connectors and a dream would be 10gbe included in that

Most Audio gear is using USB-A/USB-B connections still. Its not just about USB-C devices. Look at a RME ADI-2 DAC

They're portable hubs.

Been waiting on a new desktop hub that supports dual monitors and +100W charging. OWC seems to be the best in that area.

I was thinking announcements like this have to be impacting the higher pricing associated with Thunderbolt 4 hubs. Also slightly earlier M1 Macs are using TB3/USB4 ports so appeals to those owners (example 24" iMac).
