Am I the only person who doesn't want/need a single USB-A port? Would love a hub but I switched everything to USB-C years ago.
Not the only one. If you purchased a MacBook Pro from 2016-2020 there is a good chance you may have convert d most of you Older USB gear to USB-C. But there are very expensive audio gear that sometimes cannot be replaced and/ or “just” use converter adapters etc. Converters sometimes does not do the job.

If the new MacBook Pro just had “One” USB-A port also, it would have added great functionality for audio creators. But Apple believes “just” put a USB-C adapter will do it, but not always, especially for audio. Making the Audio 1/8” port through-put (in and out) like the old MacBook Pros (like my MacBook Pro 2010) would be ideal also.

Apple “tried” to move the industry to change, but it didn’t (or was too slow). “A lot” and I mean there is a lot of good gear that manufacturers did not update drivers nor ports, so we got stuck sometimes buying newer gear that was not as good.

Such is the tech field, but if manufacturers followed the change then “Yes” there would be more users who don’t need USB-A ports. I would prefer, but USB-A ports are still here and maybe here to stay (at least for some time still).

Hubs put in USB-A instead of C because it's cheap. From like 2016-2019, zero multi-USB-C hubs were on the market. The chip for that just didn't exist. Now you can get them, but it's like $40 for a 4-port (so net +3) hub. I'm sure it'll come down over time.

This is also the reason I still buy USB-A accessories. I won't run out of ports.
Yes, I am still waiting for a decent USB-C hub that has the good Thunderbolt 4 ports getting close to thunderbolt 4 speeds, but don’t know a good one (unless someone could give a link).

The USB-C chip seemed not to be readily licensed or available for manufacturers to make accessories as still a limited market (or they don’t want to put in the research and development into it) as USB-C changes quickly from thunderbolt 3 to 4 etc.

Understand getting rid of ports to make it simple…but VERY inconvenient..

Getting rid of ports is great for the Marketing team, to make them feel fulfilled and satisfied about having something new to market.
It's great for the Engineering team, to give them satisfaction about having something new to design.
It's great for the self-worth of minimalists still at Apple with mindsets like Jony Ive's, as it gives them happiness and satisfaction when they add by removal.

Then after all of those folk in the design/delivery chain are the consumers who will use the device, whose satisfaction should be first in priority. But who then have to go buy adapters and hubs and dongles to regain access to their many devices.

Makes a lot of sense huh?

Just buy this adapter, it works great on both my 2019 MBP 16" and my 2020 iPad Pro 11". I use it with all kind of devices like external HDDs, external blu-ray drive, scanner etc.
First off, these do work great!

Second, if you get these, please be kind to your MLB and remove them BEFORE you travel with the Mac.

You absolutely nailed it!

Is Uni a good brand? Everyone/anyone have good or bad luck with these?
I have no experience with any of their other things. But, I have used this hub for more than a year. That’s longer than any of my other ones lasted.

Thx. I ordered one from Amazon. That one seems great from many angles. Price, # of various USB ports, etc.
