You would think that instead of making a big hoopla, if someone in the press really wanted to help, rather than report a story to get ratings, they would just have used their own credit card to buy the woman the ipad and have the woman pay them back. But I guess that's too complicated for today's press. Instead she now has "to wait for apple to take cash for her ipad." Really? Whatever happened to common sense.

Still sucks that the policies that was enplane to fight the gray market has an effect against the little old ladies whom really intended to make a purchase for themselves.

Hey lady if ur in Vegas id be happy to help u get ur iPad. Does this lady have an email?

System sucks but this lady seems sweet. Hope she gets one. Geez I hope she has a wireless router

To live on a fixed income and be proud to make a bit of saving to treat yourself to such a nice gift is awesome. Good for her, I hope she's rocking one very soon

This is discrimination against armed robbers and other criminals. How can you rob a place for cash if they don't have any cash.

I think we need a new law requiring businesses to have a minimum of $2,000 in the register at all times.

OR open a bank account and get a debit card. There are a number of ways to work around this policy. It really is a non-issue.

Or asked a friend or relative who has a credit card to buy the iPad and paid them back with her cash.

But that wouldn't have made for a very good Apple-bashing "news" story.

If a supermarket suddenly stopped accepting cash I'd be outraged myself -- but an iPad is hardly necessary for survival. As others have stated, Best Buy will be happy to take her money and so will an Applestore in a few weeks.

Ridiculous.

I paid for my Macbook Pro in cash. I like cash. It's anonymous and untraceable.

They should like cash too because they don't have the credit card fee overhead.

or go get a disposable credit card at your grocey store

Does this work? I thought the whole idea was that you had to have a physical address and name associated which is why they are reluctant to even take their own gift cards on iPads right now. Wouldn't cards from the grocery store have the same issue?

Apple stopped taking cash so they could stop you guys buying lots of units and making a few extra bucks on eBay. I'm not complaining though ;)

You may very well be right

Opening up a savings account for free and then using your debit card would work though. The lady has no real excuse and if she goes ipad'less, it is her own doing

Sensationalizing

I to paid CASH for my iPad at an Apple store on the day of release. Their cash register was mounted under a display table and the rep had to find it to get my change. It was kind of funny.
Seems there is some misinformation being passed around. Maybe someone in the media is a Windows Fan Boy????
As far as being able to but apps, music ect. on the iPad, there are iTunes gift cards that can be purchased with CASH and loaded onto the iPad.
Cash is KING and the people whom think otherwise is a fool and will someday regret having all that plastic.

The no cash policy was not in place when it first launched.

your a sweetheart sir.

How about the guy from the California Reinvestment Coalition making this seem like Apple is doing this because it hates US currency? If Apple accepted cash and there were no iPads available for this lady because they were being purchased and resold overseas, he'd be on there complaining that Apple is allowing "criminals" to profit while the disabled/low-income are being overlooked! The guy makes the CRC look like fools.

People love to make something out of nothing. Like most said, there are many ways she could have arranged for the purchase of an iPad. And, she really doesn't have a bank account? Is it really smart to be storing all your cash in a fanny pack? Even my kids know that it is not good to be carrying that much cash around and have opened up bank accounts with debit cards.

Finally, name one law that says a retailer must accept cash? Why aren't people complaining about retailers who have "cash only" rules (they won't take credit cards or checks)? Isn't it the same "inconvenience" for the people that don't carry cash?

This is all just "let's nit-pick Apple because they are popular" media BS.

The policy has changed since the wifi launch day.
