For a dying brand, XBox seems to be doing fine and so does Windows brands...
Oh, xBox is doing OK, that's not disputed. But hasn't it kind of peaked? I mean, most who want one already have one. Also, it's just a game console. Nothing wrong with it, but profit is mostly limited to the initial purchase, and the margin isn't all that high. Microsoft could no more survive on xBox than Arnold Schwarzenegger could survive on one grain of rice a day.
Windows and Office brands have done well.... ON PAPER. Most of this years good performance is due to pent-up demand from businesses that refused to adopt Vista for several years and are now going from XP to Seven.
Windows and Office are stagnant and losing market share rapidly amongst consumers. Businesses are likely to eventually follow.
A major company like MS should not be in a weak or losing position regarding their main product.... Windows and Office. MS is.
I believe that this is due to their historical reliance upon usurping others. They have run out of victims to steal from. Right back to Day One, MS has never been an Innovator and now that all the companies that did innovate are gone (mostly due to MS), they lack the imagination to make anything new or better.
Now, their sole remining competitors are far stronger as a result of surviving decades of MS trying to destroy them and weeding out the rest. For the most part, this means Apple.

you know, i think Apple can REALLY take another (heh) good crack at the gaming market! through the use of the latest TV and the iStore + some sort of Apple game-pad (with accelerometer etc) i think that Apple would have a massive impact on the gaming market, much like the Wii. why is this relevant? i think it may imapct the xbox (and ps3) market. For a dying brand, XBox seems to be doing fine and so does Windows brands...
did you know that australia has cheaper 3G internet then any other country? see what i did there?Did you see that Xbox Live has more subscribers than Comcast?

Ill break it down. 25+ million XBOX Live subscribers x $50/year = $1.25billion from subscriptions alone.
Also highest selling game system last 4 months.
Rubbish.Oh, xBox is doing OK, that's not disputed. But hasn't it kind of peaked? I mean, most who want one already have one. Also, it's just a game console. OS X and the iPhone has done well.... ON PAPER. I have yet to see visual proof that Apple is catching on.Windows and Office brands have done well.... ON PAPER. Rubbish.Windows and Office are stagnant and losing market share rapidly amongst consumers. Businesses are likely to eventually follow.
And the xbox.A major company like MS should not be in a weak or losing position regarding their main product.... Windows and Office. MS is.
Some companies don't need to innovate to survive. I don't believe they have ever innovated. Doesn't make them dead. Of coarse, Apple have never stolen ideas.I believe that this is due to their historical reliance upon usurping others. They have run out of victims to steal from. Right back to Day One, MS has never been an Innovator and now that all the companies that did innovate are gone (mostly due to MS), they lack the imagination to make anything new or better.

Rubbish.
Please, you obviously have no idea what you are on about. You like Apple, which is great. I like Apple too. Doesn't mean the end of M$ at all.
The same argument can and has been made against apple as well. The various antitrust investigations are proof that apple's behavior has been enough to catch the eye of the US government and the EU regularity people.I am sharply critical of MS because of their disregard for others, common-sense laws and even their customers and users.
How long ago was it since you used a modern Windows PC? XP is currently still the industry standard and XP is a pig. Because I fully agree with you on this, I have struggled on Windows PC's, both XP and Vista made me loose confidence in Microsoft and I switched to Apple. However Windows 7, in my opinion, is actually better than the current OS X, and I don't struggle when using Windows PC's anymore. I have the feeling your opinions are dated.I struggled with their defective products for years before finding a viable alternative... and still have to deal with their junk on a daily basis at work.
At least you admit you are bias. *LTD* isn't the date for you.If you really can't stand my un-apologetic Anti-Microsoft / Pro-Apple views, just think of me as the Devil's very own Advocate.
Why are there so many MS trolls over here on a Mac site?

PS. Question: Are the Microsoft Store employees here paid by the Post or by the Word?
Answer: Neither. They're paid by the Hour!
The difference is that Apple has not been found guilty *so far*. And "catch the eye" doesn't seem the proper phrase in that matter, it's more about third parties lodging complaints in order to catch those eyes. The same argument can and has been made against apple as well. The various antitrust investigations are proof that apple's behavior has been enough to catch the eye of the US government and the EU regularity people.
Go to apple discussions forums and you'll see a lot of threads about apple products and problems.
Microsoft like it or not is still a very relevant player in everywhere they have a good foothold (Windows, X-Box, MS Office and Desktop accessories). I don't see them dying anytime soon.
Well, it depends how you define "relevant player": if it's in terms of market share, sure. But in the tech world it's mostly about setting the standards and bringing about innovation and in this department, MS has not been really impressive in the recent years.
