You probably have better specs than I, so you may be getting better eye candy.:)

It might not be all leopard, I had it crash on me several times in Tiger while trying to select some options, but not once during the actual game.

Haha... 24" Al iMac

I ordered it on the 25th from Amazon.com and just got an e-mail this morning that it will now not be available until "3/26/2008". According to the Feral web site they are shipping free for $50.00.

Not sure what's up with Amazon.

Jim

Amazon can be screwy... just cancel the order and order from Feral. I love the game, I'll probably buy it. Even the demo is great.

macgamestore has it available for preorder too at $39.95, but still shows as shipping at end of October...

I used to play CMR2 a lot years and years ago when I still used Windows, and I really loved that game. And I've been waiting for CMR2005 on the Mac since it was announced back in 2005.

Haven't actually played CMR2005 on any platform earlier so I don't know how it's supposed to play. At least the demo of the Mac version was a disapointment for me (in comparison to CMR2). The same feeling of control of the car is not quite there (I might blame the keyboard here also, though). The difference between tarmac and snow feels now less than what it was in CMR2. And you if you don't stare at the gauges, it's difficult to tell whether you're doing 80 or 180 km/h, not to mention the rather weak sounds of the cars which reinforce this feeling.

It seems strange to me that they say that the code is only '70% finished' in the demo and that the 'quality' could be different in the final version. I see little point in demoing with an unfinished version when the (supposedly) finished version is already shipping. I'm cynical enough to believe that the demo already represents the final version, but I would like nothing more that to be wrong on this of course. Has anyone actually been able to play the final version yet? And if so, is there any difference in the gameplay?

Despite all the criticism I'll most likely still buy the game since there's practically no competition in this genre on the Mac.

I agree, I wonder if they just threw the 70% version demo because they wanted it to be easier on the downloads?

I canceled my order at Amazon and ordered it direct from Feral's web site. We'll see what happens with it on Monday.
Jim

Cool, let us know what happens.:)

I played a larger version of this at a Mac expo here in Paris a couple months ago. Been really eager to buy ever since. Especially liked the original Mini. The tracks that I played were really varied too. Weather effects were beautiful.
In comparison, the download demo is very limited. But I have enjoyed it regardless.

Not to pick on anybody but...

I'm not happy with the sound, both cars I tried sound exactly the same and the cheering crowds that look like cardboard cutouts sound awful. Again I don't know if this is because the demo is of lesser quality than the regular game or if this is how they planned it. No race music?
The fans are cardboard, true. The starters are 3D. Frankly I don't look at the fans when I am blasting down the road at 170kph. So this is a non-issue for me.
There are no similarities between the engine sounds, if you think they are the same you need new ears. ;)

This game bites with a keyboard, it definetely requires a more subtle touch. It obviously begs for a wheel which is out of my budget.
My wallet can afford a wheel, my marriage cannot.
Nothing says "husband wasting time" like a wheel setup in front of my 30" monitors. I am a photographer, this is just to shake up my brain a little, I am not starting a gaming career. That said, I think that this game works better than others, Redline for example, with the keys. I look forward to testing this opinion against some of you online in the near future.:D
Like all driving games, learn to use manual transmission, it pays off in dividends.
Anyone know where I can buy it in Paris, in a box? I am traveling tomorrow, and would like to have it for the train. BTW, game plays great on both my PPC G5 and my MBP 17" 2.33 Ghz (1680x1050!).

Placed an order this morning at Feral's website and got an email about an hour ago that the game has shipped. Hopefully it arrives before the weekend...

I got confirmation also on my order, but it says that it will be 7 days before I will receive it. Not sure where you are but I'm in CA. a long way from England.

My order status also says 'Delivery to your location normally takes 7 days.' I live in Sweden which is not that far away from England (if that's where they ship from). But lets wait and see...

Ah, well we'll see. Drop a note here and let us know how its running for you when you get it. I'll do the same, but you should get yours much sooner than I.

The game won't launch on a PowerBook 12" 1.5 Ghz.
It says graphics card not supported?!

I know 1.67 is the minimum, but surely there is a bypass option as with other games?

Maybe i do, or maybe youre hearing things again.;)

Well, my wallet can't take the hit. You need to introduce your wife to racing games so you can waste time together and then you can get 2 wheels! ;)

Strange...I have a slower cpu than you so that's not it. However, I've got 256mb in my graphics card and the game runs pretty well. Do you have enough Ram? Feral has a webpage under support that tells you if your system is supported, here:

http://support.feralinteractive.com/?mod_id=system&gamename=colinmcrae

It didn't pass the test you linked.

Here are the specs:

1.5 Ghz G4
768 MB RAM
64 MB Geforce FX Go5200
Didn't work in Panther, and doesn't work in Leopard.

I got a QS 933 w/ an nvidia 6800GT 256mb, 1gig of ram, Tiger and i can run the demo. The game specs say it only supports Tiger, so that maybe your problem if you are running Panther or Leopard. I doubt its your cpu, because mine is far below yours.

Hmm, well I tried on an intel mac in Leopard, and it worked.

P.S I'm using the demo here, not sure if there is a difference between that and the full version.

Slightly unrelated, how well does your machine run iphoto? I'm thinking of buying a used powermac like yours.

I've been in correspondence with Feral, the maker as I ordered a copy from them, which is on its way. They tell me the program is fully compatible with Leopard.

I'm still surprised it doesn't run on the G4 powerbook, unless you are running panther on it.

On my QS I have an older version of iphoto (5.0.4). I have no issues, but I mainly use it to organize and print. I use photoshop for image correction.

Dang.

Demo doesn't even want to start running on MacBooks. I reckon it could handle it, on low settings. Why do they just cut off and not even give us a chance to try and run it?

Other games which don't support GMA950 still work on medium-ish settings, like Prey.
:(

My copy of Colin Mcrae Rally Mac arrived today. With my typical luck, the DVD-drive tries to spin the disc thrice, failing every time, and then spits it out.
I'll try the disc on my deadbeat PC next...

Glad to hear that it arrived, but sorry to hear that you're having problems already. Mine has not arrived yet. I hope I don't have the same problems.

Keep us posted.

No luck on the PC either so it seem that the fault is in the disc. Sent email to Feral on the matter.

Now I remember why I haven't bought anything via mail order since my MBP. That time mine and some Spaniard's machines were accidentally exchanged by Apple during transit... But as I said, this is just my typical luck.

Sorry to hear that too.

I also got mine today and it runs fine, so it must be a defective DVD. I have the graphics set at 1280x800 with millions of colors which gives me full screen and the graphics are smooth. Sound is also great on my Bose Speaker system. Only problem I have so far is an old Nascar wheel. I'm not able to program the pedals at all for acceleration and braking, I have to use buttons instead which is a real pain. Oh, well, I've been looking at a new wheel anyway.

I do plan on contacting Feral directly though to see if they might have a workaround before I purchase a new one.
